Proceedings of the 11th Workshop on Uncertainty Processing
Kratochvíl, Václav; Vejnarová, Jiřina
2018 - English
The Workshop on Uncertainty Processing, better known under its abbreviation WUPES, celebrates its 30-year anniversary this year. In 1988, when the first Workshop took place, Czechoslovakia was still a communist country and a part of the Soviet bloc. Since then, many things have changed. For example, Czechoslovakia no longer exists as a country (because in 1993 it was peacefully split into two independent countries - Czechia and Slovakia). From this perspective, it is hard to believe that we have several participants who have attended most workshops in the the thirty-year history of WUPES. As of now, the Program Committee has accepted, based on the extended abstracts, 21 papers to be presented at the Workshop, and 19 out of them are to be published in the present Conference Proceedings. These papers cover diverse topics, such as information processing, decision making, and data analysis; but what is common to most of them is that they are related to uncertainty calculus - Bayesian Networks, Dempster-Shafer Theory, Belief Functions, Probabilistic Logic, Game Theory, etc. Keywords: uncertainty processing; artificial intelligence; bayesian networks Fulltext is available at external website.

Information Geometry and its Applications IV
Kratochvíl, Václav
2016 - English
The aim of the conference is to highlight recent developments within the field of information geometry and to identify new directions of research. We are confident that we have put together an exciting program consisting of invited talks and contributed poster presentations. All titles and abstracts are included in this book. We thank Václav Kratochvíl for his terrific work with the local organisation! Special thanks go to Antje Vandenberg who managed all the administrative work in Leipzig. We are also grateful for the support that we received from Milan Studený Keywords: Information Geometry Fulltext is available at external website.

Proceedings of the 10th Workshop on Uncertainty Processing
Kratochvíl, Václav
2015 - English
WUPES 2015 is organized jointly by the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Czech Academy of Sciences and by the Faculty of Management, University of Economics, Prague. It is quite natural that such a meeting could not materialize if it were not for the hard work of many our colleagues and friends. This is why we want to express our gratitude to all the members of both the Programme and Organizing Committees. Last but not least, we also want to acknowledge the fact that this workshop is organized, due to the fact that the research of several members of the Organizing Committee is financially supported by grants GA CR no 15-00215S and 13-20012S. Keywords: Bayesian networks; uncertainty; optimization Fulltext is available at external website.

Scalable Decision Making: Uncertainty, Imperfection, Deliberation, European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML/PKDD 2013)
Guy, Tatiana Valentine; Kárný, Miroslav
2013 - English
Machine learning (ML) and knowledge discovery both use and serve to decision making (DM), which has to cope with uncertainty, incomplete knowledge, problem and data complexity and imperfection (limited cognitive and evaluating capabilities) of the involved heterogeneous multiple participants (aka agents, decision makers, components, controllers, classifiers, etc.). Contemporary DM deals with complex systems characterised by heterogeneous components and their goal-motivated dynamic interactions. The individual participants are selfish, i.e. follow their individual goals. There is no well-justified way to influence or describe the resulting collective behaviour of such a system via a well-proved combination of the selfish components. Economic and natural sciences describe concepts governing the functioning of systems of selfish participants as well as ways influencing their behaviour. However, the majority of solutions rely on the human moderator/manager controlling such a system. Keywords: scalable; decision making; uncertainty; imperfection; deliberation Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Decision making with multiple imperfect decision makers a workshop in conjuction with the 24nd Annual Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems
Guy, Tatiana Valentine; Kárný, Miroslav; Wolpert, D.
2010 - English
Prescriptive Bayesian decision making has reached a high level of maturity, supported by efficient, theoretically well-founded algorithms. While the long-standing problem of describing a sigle decision maker´s bounded rationally in well-known, the similar problem for systems of multiple decision makers with limited cognitive, acting and evaluative abilities/resources has not been considered systematically. The goal of this workshop is to explore such connections between descriptive and prescriptive decision making of multiple decision makers. Keywords: decision making; multiple participants; imperfect decision makers; rozhodování Available at various institutes of the ASCR
