Mozkový systém odměny u hmyzu
DVOŘÁČEK, Jiří
2023 - Czech
U systému odměny včely lze najít další dva zajímavé koncepty: sublimaci libostních funkcí u jedinců ve prospěch kolektivní libosti a naznačenou integrovanou funkci spojující funkce odměny a sociálního chování v jedno kontinuum. Animal behavior is not random; rather, it is primarily determined by the biological significance of environmental stimuli: stimuli essential for a survival are marked by the brain reward system, with a positive hedonic value and their achievement is associated with the pleasure (reward). The concept of the reward system emerged from research of the mammalian brain; early theories held that it was a system present only in the brains of higher animals (the mesolimbic dopaminergic system), and that reward was a manifestation of more complex neural networks and higher brain functions. The brain reward has evolved from a solitary phenomenon to a complex function that is divided into the components of ´liking´, ´wanting´, and ´learning´, and from the predominate role of dopamine to a more sophisticated idea that assigns important functions to other neurochemical systems. While dopamine still plays a significant part in the ´wanting´ function, the opioid system likely plays a larger role in the ´liking´ function. The distinction of stimuli into pleasant/unpleasant (attractive/aversive) has been described in insects, and it is widely believed that this principle applies throughout the animal kingdom. Mushroom bodies have been identified as the critical regions of reward functions in the brains of insects. The exact descriptions of the implicated neurotransmitters and modulators, as well as specific cellular and network structures, were also provided. Although the complexity of the brain networks in mammalian and insect reward systems differs, the general principles are the similar in both. The fly Drosophila melanogaster is a frequent laboratory model for investigating the principles of neural network functioning. When studying the brain reward system, it is not only appealing because it is a relatively simple organism with a transparent brain and a described genome, but it may also have the benefit for us that when thinking about its brain, we do not apply relatively old, complex concepts with unlimited meanings, which are a problem in interpreting the human brain study. In the case of the fruit fly, we can highlight that 1) the brain regions involved in associative learning and brain reward functions are surprisingly complex, despite the fact that it is a relatively simple and short-lived organism, 2) its brain almost certainly has a system that creates a motivational drive (´wanting´), and 3) there are indications of the potential existence of a hedonic component of pleasure or its evolutionary predecessor, based not on endogenous opioids. It is inspiring in many ways to compare the brain structures of two evolutionary distinct animal groupsinsects and mammals/humans. This comparison has several implications for a broad paradigm of animal reward, including: Reward principles are universal, and all species are likely fundamentally motivated by the need for rewards. The brain reward mechanisms appear to be hierarchically structured; rather than being centrally organized, they are distributed among other brain networks and mechanisms. The components of these mechanisms can operate independently of one another and concurrently. While the function of neuropeptides in the reward system is flexible, the function of monoamines in the reward system is likely to be conservative in evolutionary terms (the function of endogenous opioids in mammals may be at least partially regulated by another neuropeptide in insects). The neurotransmitter identity of dopaminergic neurons in the reward system is likely to be very context-dependent. Two other interesting concepts can be found in the bee: the sublimation of reward functions in individuals in favor of collective pleasure, and the implied integrated function connecting reward functions and social behavior into one continuum. The comparative study gives new scope for understanding disorders of the reward system, especially addiction, and may also have significant philosophical consequences. Based on the research, the aim of the dissertation is to identify the key competencies in the conditions of Industry 4.0 and to propose tools for human resources development in order to evaluate their implementation in terms of ensuring the required development of employees. In the quantitative part, based on a questionnaire survey, the statistical research revealed in the number of ANOVA tests and after adjusting their p-values by Bonferroni correction, the competencies of leadership and lifelong learning as statistically significant key competencies of professionals for Industry 4.0. This statistical result is supported by the case studies included in the qualitative part of the dissertation. The case studies capture the professional development of five managers who hold Industry 4.0 core competencies. From the qualitative research in the form of coaching interviews, the thesis shows the professional development of the experts by an average of two levels for each competency separately on the ten-point scale based on the primary questionnaire survey based on the experts' self-evaluation. The coaching method was confirmed in the case studies as the most effective method of competence development for Industry 4.0 compared to leadership and mentoring. The use of 360-degree feedback confirms the results reached by the author in the case studies. The methods for developing human resources in key positions in Industry 4.0 conditions have been effectively captured and the objectives have been met. Psychologie v kontextu profesionálního gamingu
STANĚK, Jakub
2023 - Czech
Celkem tvořilo výzkumný soubor 45 profesionálních a poloprofesionálních hráčů a 5 trenérů. Stěmito aspekty mohou hráčům pomáhat psychologové, jejichž práce vprogamingu by měla spočívat vindividuálních konzultacích shráči a trenéry, skupinové práci stýmem a vedukaci a nácviku dovedností. Srovnání studujících a nestudujících progamerů ukázalo, že prezenční studium podporuje sociální složku života hráčů, ale aktuální parametry školní docházky a podmínky pro zisk IVP nejsou vhodné pro kombinaci studia a profesionálního hraní. The aim of dissertation thesis is to map the challenging situations that professional, and semi-professional digital game players may encounter and which create psychological pressure on them, and at the same time to reveal whether there are any psychological specificities in performance gamers, i.e. to try to map their psychological profile. Closely linked to both of these themes are the psychological needs of gamers and psychological support. Data were collected using a battery of psychodiagnostic methods, a self-constructed questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with players and coaches from Czech professional organizations. In total, the research sample consisted of 45 professional and semi-professional players and 5 coaches. The comparison group was composed of 183 leisure players. The results showed that professional players are mostly introverted with a high orientation towards the outcome of their efforts and a high-performance orientation. At the same time, they showed lower levels of social interactions outside their team. It was also possible to identify challenging situations that stem from training, matches, the team and the player's career. To cope with these, the skills of managing stress, communicating effectively, controlling emotions and acting in a disciplined manner are crucial for players. Psychologists can help players with these aspects, and their work in progaming should consist of individual consultations with players and coaches, group work with the team, and education and skills training. A comparison of studying and nonstudying progamers showed that full-time study supports the social component of players' lives, but the current parameters of schooling and the conditions for obtaining an individual study plan are not suitable for a combination of study and professional gaming. Ecology of Gemmatimonadota
MUJAKIĆ, Izabela
2023 - English
Phylum Gemmatimonadota is a common group present in many natural environments. Yet, this interesting bacterial group is rarely studied. Since its discovery 20 years ago, only six cultured species have been described. Abundances of Gemmatimonadota in various environments are usually low (<1%), with the exception of soils, where they are one of the more abundant phyla. Probably for this reason, at the onset of this work, most of the knowledge about Gemmatimonadota came from studies of soil environments, while information about their ecology in freshwater lakes was missing. An interesting discovery relating to the unexplored diversity of Gemmatimonadota in freshwaters was the isolation of the first phototrophic member of this group, Gemmatimonas phototrophica, which was cultured from a shallow freshwater lake. To learn more about the ecology of Gemmatimonadota in freshwaters, the main focus of this thesis was the analysis of their distribution and diversity in several freshwater lakes, with emphasis on presence of photoheterotrophic Gemmatimonadota. The potential ecological roles of this group, metabolic capabilities and general genomic characteristics have also been addressed, thereby allowing a broader scope comparison with Gemmatimonadota from other environments such as soil, marine waters, or wastewaters. Keywords: Gemmatimonadota; metagenome; Gemmatimonadetes; MAGs; anoxygenic phototrophs; aquatic bacteria; CARD-FISH; freshwater ecology Available in the Digital Repository of University of South Bohemia.

An ethical evaluation of philanthropic strategies employed by charitable organisations operating in Mongu district of Western Zambia
MUTEMWA, David
2023 - English
This study has been prompted by the fact that very little is known about the ethical aspects and operating strategies of charitable organisations in Mongu district of Western Zambia despite an influx of such organisations in the area from pre-colonial times. The aim of the study is to evaluate the ethical aspects of philanthropic strategies employed by charitable organisations operating in Mongu. Within social work, which is the guiding framework of this study, evidence of results alone does not satisfy the ethical aspect because ethics in social work are mainly deontological in nature, which means that the end does not always justify the means. The study endeavours to contribute to the discourse of philanthropic social work and, especially, towards a model for evaluating ethical aspects of philanthropic strategies of charities from the unique context of the charitable organisations operating in Mongu district of Western Zambia, which will also inform praxis in other similar contexts. The nature and identity of apologetics in light of the calls of scripture and the Second Vatican Council
NICOLSON, Stuart
2023 - English
Apologetics in recent times has had for many a negative value, and the term 'apologetics' did not appear in the Second Vatican Council documents. However, by returning to the sources in Scripture and the Early Church, especially Peter's call (1Peter 3:15-16) for all faithful to be ready to respond when questioned or challenged about their faith, and to do so in a Christian manner, apologetics can be understood as far more original, ordinary, and organic than how it is often defined. It was originally an integral part of Christians speaking out about their faith, participating with the Logos. Through a Petrine lens, apologetical calls and content can be identified in 10 of the 16 Vatican II documents, including two clear paraphrases of Peter's call. This indicates a problem in how apologetics is identified and understood. Part 1 provides a working definition for Petrine apologetics in order to identify its development through Christian history. Part 2 present a brief and selective history of apologetics. Petrine apologetics is observed and explored in Scripture in Part 2a, including in Jesus' ministry and the first Church generations. In Part 2b it is shown how a second century apologetical turn, particularly through Justin Martyr, reinforced by Eusebius, and concretised by several later Early Church Fathers, narrowed apologetics into becoming elite, intellectual, and clerical - not for all the faithful but the few. The Mediaeval period (Part 2c) could have seen a return to more universal Petrine apologetics, especially through the Fourth Lateran Council, but weak dissemination of its teachings meant the opportunity was lost. After the Reformation, in Part 2d, Charles Borromeo's pastoral apologetics stands out, as well as a growing movement based upon credibility in the English-speaking sphere where apologetics was becoming part of organic engagement of Catholics in Protestant societies. Part 3 focuses on Vatican II. The entrenched Justinian approach in Catholic Europe eschewed engagement with others, leaving apologetics as overly catechetical. Balthasar identified and rejected the old paradigm and the main reform ideas, calling for a new approach: Love Alone Is Credible. Many conciliar apologetics themes are congruent with his reform call, and with Petrine apologetics. In addition to apologetical calls, Vatican II shows that apologetical preparation should be embedded in Christian education (Gravissimum Educationis 2) and how apologetically prepared faithful should engage with society (Apostolicam Actuositatem 1, 2, 11, 29, 31, etc.). But the Council's apologetics calls were not developed and apologetics was mostly replaced by fundamental theology, which has problematic features from Justinian apologetics and the reform ideas Balthasar rejected, and is not related to the apologetical calls of Peter or Vatican II. However, there has been an organic development of apologetics since the 1980s. In Part 4, the problematic current state of Catholic understanding in the ordinary faithful is evident in two recent surveys. It is necessary to respond to this. By reframing apologetics according to the original Petrine call and its Vatican II confirmation, a New Apologetics (NA) can be developed that emphasises Peter's elements of preparation, response, in a Christian manner, for all the faithful. The Petrine elements are unpacked in today's context and several distinctions are explored, including objective and subjective approaches, and the spectrum of evangelisation-apologetics-catechetics. Three 'voices' are shown to have particularly contributed so far to NA: William Levada, Robert Barron, and Peter Kreeft. All intellectual and two being clerics, they have the insight and ability to guide developments. Looking forwards, the two named conciliar texts are explored in how they can be unpacked for developing an embedded apologetics of preparation, response, in a Christian manner: original, organic, ordinary apologetics. Čerpá přitom především z filosofických děl západní tradice myšlení a z českých a anglických textů obsahově náležejících do disciplíny filosofie sportu. The thesis is concerned with a philosophical exploration of sport and its role in a good life. It attempts to elaborate on selected key questions of the philosophy of sport discipline that also relate to traditional philosophical problems, namely, What is sport?, What is good sport?, and What is the role of sport in a good life? The main objectives of the thesis include adequately defining sport, clearly characterizing good sport, and clarifying the value of sport as a beneficial activity for human beings. The structure of the text corresponds to these three aims, with a chapter devoted to each of them. The author presents sport as an instrumentally and autotelically significant activity worthy of inclusion in the framework of a good life. In doing so, he draws primarily on philosophical works in the Western tradition of thought and on Czech and English texts belonging to the philosophy of sport discipline. Keywords: filosofie sportu; definice sportu; dobrý sport; dobrý život; autotelicita; Aristotelés; Bernard Suits; philosophy of sport; definition of sport; good sport; good life; autotelicity; Aristotle; Bernard Suits Available in the Digital Repository of University of South Bohemia.

The goal of human life is the subject of virtue ethics and answers the question about the nature of beatitude, which is the ultimate end of human action. It is the subject of both ancient philosophy and medieval scholasticism, in which Thomas's conception of the virtues has a fundamental place. It is currently being explored in the fields of both philosophy and theology. This thesis addresses the problem of the nature of the last end through an exposition of the basic positions in Aristotelian and Thomistic virtue ethics. Through the elaboration of the basic positions, a clear distinction is made between natural and supernatural virtue ethics, which, however, within the framework of Thomas's conception, form a coherent and interconnected system that is faithful to the Aristotelian model. Thomas's virtue ethics is a model example of a conception of virtue that captures the fullness of the immanent dimension of man through philosophical cognition along with a transcendent overlay. Keywords: Ctnosti; etika ctností; cíl lidského života; blaženost; nedokonalá blaženost; finální příčina etiky ctností; Tomáš Akvinský; Virtues; virtue ethics; ultimate end; beatitude; imeprfect beatitude; final cause of virtue ethics; Thomas Aquinas Available in the Digital Repository of University of South Bohemia.
