2023 - English
Kombinací metody konečných prvků a klasických analytických řešení byly navrženy a ověřeny různé metodiky pro výpočet elastických vlastností (E a v), zbytkových napětí, meze kluzu a lomové houževnatosti. Mechanické vlastnosti filmů z nitridu křemíku, hliníku a zlata byly charakterizovány pomocí experimentálních dat o zatížení-průhybu získaných z měření. Bulge testing is an experimental technique that involves the use of numerical and analytical approaches to characterize the mechanical properties of thin films. This thesis addresses some limitations found in the classical models that describe the behavior of thin films subjected to this test. This required the development of new models and numerical strategies in order to determine several mechanical properties of monolayer and bilayer thin films under different structural conditions, such as elasticity, plasticity, and fracture. By combining finite element analysis and classical analytical solutions, different methodologies for calculating the elastic properties (E and v), residual stresses, yield stress, and fracture toughness were proposed and validated. The mechanical properties of silicon nitride, aluminum, and gold films were characterized using load-deflection experimental data obtained from bulging measurements. The determined properties showed reasonable agreement with materials of known properties, which validated that the proposed methods in this work can be useful for estimating the mechanical properties of freestanding thin films. Aktualizace výpočtového modelu kapacity okružních křižovatek

2023 - Czech
The doctoral thesis deals with a new approach to the characteristics of traffic flows at roundabouts in relation to the capacity estimation. The currently used methodology, which was introduced in 1973 by Werner Siegloch, is based on imprecise assumptions and simplifications, which may ultimately distort the results of capacity assessments carried out according to the existing valid national regulation. This thesis uses not only an innovative procedure for obtaining empirical data by image analysis using so-called computer vision, but above all, the process of gap-acceptance of main-stream time clearances by minor stream vehicles is solved as a stochastic phenomenon. This approach aims to replace the deterministic values of the critical gap and follow-up headway with an appropriate probability density function that will meet empirical data in the best way. Processing of metallic materials by Selective Laser Melting at elevated temperatures
Malý, Martin; Filho, Sergio de Traglia Amancio; Dr. Michael R. Tucker; Koutný, Daniel
2023 - English
Z rešeršní části byly identifikovány perspektivní oblasti, které doposud nebyly dostatečně zkoumány, a kde by předehřev mohl vést k zefektivnění technologie LPBF a rozšíření oblasti zpracovatelných materiálů. U Inconelu 939 dokonce zvýšená teplota vedla k vyšším deformacím, a tedy zbytkovým napětím v důsledku evoluce karbidické fáze. Všechny výsledky vedou k lepšímu pochopení chování materiálů během zpracování technologií LPBF a mohou vést k jejímu rozšíření do dalších průmyslových odvětví. This dissertation thesis deals with the influence of preheating on the components produced using Selective Laser Melting (SLM), also known as Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) technology. The thesis contains an overview of the current state of knowledge in the field of preheating and the physical nature of preheating. Furthermore, the work contains an overview of the effect of preheating on specific types of materials. These types of materials included in the state of the art are titanium, intermetallic, nickel and aluminium alloys, and copper. From the state of knowledge, promising research areas were identified, where preheating could lead to more efficient production using LPBF technology and to expansion of the area of processable materials. These areas include the investigation of the effect of preheating in combination with other process parameters on the residual stresses of Ti6Al4V alloy, the effect of preheating on nickel alloy Inconel 939 and copper. The premise of the Ti6Al4V and Inconel 939 topics was that preheating would reduce residual stresses, and thus will be possible to reduce the necessary amount of support structures. The results can lead to more cost-effective production using LPBF technology. This hypothesis was rejected. Despite the reduction in residual stresses in Ti6Al4V, they were not fully eliminated and, in addition, a rapid degradation of unused powder was detected, which increases production costs. The preheating of the Inconel 939, against the assumption based on behaviour of other materials, led to higher deformations and thus residual stresses, due to the evolution of precipitates. Another selected area where preheating could lead to an increase in the portfolio of processable materials is the processing of copper. Copper is a difficult to process material using LPBF technology due to its high thermal conductivity and laser reflectivity. The experiments confirmed a very positive effect of preheating on the relative density of the samples. The samples reached relative density values of over 99% when fabricated with preheating at 400 °C. Thus, preheating can significantly improve the process ability of reflective and high conductive materials. All of the results lead to a better understanding of the behaviour of the materials during processing by LPBF technology and may lead to its further expansion to more industries. The results are summarized in three publications that have been published in scientific journals. 2023 - English
This thesis presents a comprehensive investigation of the growth of high-aspect-ratio (HAR) TiO2 nanotube (TNT) layers and their application in advanced light sensing technologies. The research outputs achieved during this Ph.D. study encompass a series of papers that collectively explore the synthesis and characterization of HAR TNT layers on one hand side, and performance evaluation of these layers in various sensing modalities on the other side. The initial study focuses on the successful anodization of Ti foil to obtain HAR TNT layers using a specially formulated electrolyte containing NH4F/H2O/ethylene glycol, with the addition of lactic acid (LA). The results demonstrate that by controlling the electrolyte age and composition, together with the application of sufficiently high potentials, HAR TNT layers with high aspect ratio (of approximately 450) can be achieved within remarkably short anodization times ( 15 minutes) compared to the literature available before the work on this thesis begun. This approach offers a promising pathway to obtain robust TNT layers without dielectric breakdown, eliminating the need for additional process control, such as heating or cooling of the electrolyte. Building up on the successful anodization results, the subsequent investigation explored the galvanostatic anodization for obtaining HAR TNT layers in an LA-containing electrolyte. It was observed that lactic acid effectively prevents dielectric breakdown when high current densities are applied. This finding highlights the potential of galvanostatic anodization to produce HAR TNT layers in significantly reduced anodization times at room temperature. Expanding the research scope, the thesis delves into the microwave photoconductivity of TNT layers with different thicknesses (15, 50, 80, and 110 m) at X-band frequencies (~8 GHz) for applications in sensing and wireless space communication. The integration of anatase TNT layers with a planar split ring resonator (SRR) microwave resonator enables the evaluation of their microwave photoconductivity performance. Experimental results revealed significant variations in the resonant amplitude and frequency responses of the TNT layers, with the 80 m thick TNT layers demonstrating the highest sensitivity. Correlations were established between the photoconductivity efficiency, crystallite size, and thickness of the TNT layers, supporting the development of optimized TNT layers for enhanced microwave sensing capabilities. Furthermore, the thesis explores TNT layers on SRR for visible light detection. By sensitizing the TNT layers to the visible spectral region through the deposition of a CdS coating using Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), the results demonstrate effective detection of ultraviolet (UV) light, visible (VIS) light and light-induced variations in the dielectric properties of TNT layers. The experimental findings align with theoretical models and highlight the clearly outstanding potential of TNT-based sensors in hazard detection, pollution monitoring, material analysis, and light-based satellite-to-satellite communication. Overall, this thesis provides a comprehensive understanding of HAR TNT layers and their capabilities for advanced sensing applications. The knowledge gained from this research will contribute to the advancement of nanomaterial-based sensors and opens up new possibilities for their utilization in various industries and emerging technologies. 2023 - Czech
Laser welding is a modern welding method that has been widely adopted by the industry. With the increasing demands on weld quality, automated welding is being applied with advantage. There are requirements to implement welding process monitoring in accordance with the concept of Industry 4.0. This thesis develops methods for laser welding process monitoring. The resulting weld quality is largely influenced by the behaviour of the vapour-gas channel called the keyhole generated by the laser beam. However, direct observation of the keyhole during the welding process is difficult and indirect methods are often chosen, with an emphasis on non-contact optical methods. First, the observation of the plasma plume using a photodiode is verified, and then an innovative approach of detecting the back-reflected laser radiation using a camera is proposed. An optical extension for monitoring the welding process coaxially at the laser wavelength is assembled for this purpose. The aim of this thesis is to summarize the possibilities of detecting the welding process status and to propose a variant acceptable for industrial application. The image data obtained during the process represent the intensity distribution of the back-reflected laser radiation. Descriptive statistics and image segmentation methods are used to extract features from the intensity distribution. The distribution of back-reflected laser radiation is related to process parameters, keyhole geometry and some weld defects. Two-dimensional artificial arrays of interacting nanomagnets are a powerful playground for probing the physics of the lattice spin models. Artificially designed spin systems were introduced to mimic the behaviour of the frustrated pyrochlore crystals. Recent improvement in nano-fabrication techniques allows us to fabricate any desired artificial system in the lab control environment. Therefore artificial simulators of the matter can be produced and used for more advanced study of the desired phenomenons. The advantage of using nanomagnetic objects as building blocks of artificial lattices is that small magnetic structures can effectively be considered giant classical Ising spins. Therefore elevating the problem of frustrated spins in pyrochlore crystals into such dimensions so the system can be studied with real space imaging techniques. With imaging techniques such as magnetic force microscopy, the ordering of each Ising macrospin can be visualised in real space, enabling us to look not only at the global property of the system as a whole but to see how local interactions are accommodated. Being able to fabricate artificial systems capturing the desired physics and comparing it to the real nature counterpart measures our understanding of the problem. It can also offer a missing piece of information. Furthermore, there are properties of the systems which are emergent and not encoded in the theoretical Hamiltonians describing the systems. Such properties seem to come out of nowhere, and with artificial systems and the ability to visualise these systems, we can analyse such properties. This thesis focus on studying two types of systems: kagome and square dipolar spin systems. Both these systems are the results of the projections of the three-dimensional pyrochlore crystals into a plane. Moreover, both systems exhibit rather unusual behaviour, which is still to be measured on a large scale in real space. The dipolar kagome spin system has a low energy phase called spin liquid 2, which hosts unusual spin behaviour. The spins in this phase are ordered and disordered simultaneously, a unique emergent property of the system with no equivalent. On the other hand, the square spin system is a perfect playground for studying the exotic physics of spin liquids, the Columb phase, and the behaviour of magnetic monopole-like quasi-particles. The usual approach when fabricating artificial spin systems is to build them up out of single-domain nanomagnets which interact via long-range dipolar interactions. Therefore the systems try to minimise the interactions between all pairs of the Ising macrospins. However, the central idea of this thesis is to connect all the nanomagnets into one macro lattice, therefore introducing the micromagnetic effects into the systems. Magnetisation tries to satisfy the micromagnetic energies at the vertex site. Hence, we effectively replace the spin degree of freedom with a micromagnetic knob which can be used to tune each vertex's energy by introducing specially designed topological defects. Even though both systems have been the focus of researchers for almost twenty years, we believe that our modifications open a gateway to fully accessing the exotic physic yet to uncover. Blood samples are normally analyzed in the form of plasma or serum. As an alternative for blood sampling and storage, dry blood spots (DBS) have been increasingly used in recent years. In the actual dissertation thesis, DBS are processed and analyzed by capillary electrophoresis (CE), which has been very rarely used for DBS analysis in the past. However, CE offers several features, given by the recent development of this technique, not available for standard analytical methods. Direct coupling of microextraction techniques to CE and simultaneous determination of analytes present in complex matrices leads to minimization or elimination of deficiencies in DBS analysis, for example the effect of sample matrix, hematocrit effect, and inhomogeneous distribution of analytes in DBS. In the simplest possible arrangement, sample treatment, injection, and analysis of DBS samples are achieved exclusively by a single commercial CE instrument. Application of newly developed fully soluble materials for DBS sampling offers better extraction efficiency and more accurate quantitation. The developed concepts include new methods for efficient treatment of DBS samples and their direct analysis without the need for operator intervention and they provide sufficient selectivity and sensitivity for the determination of important analytes not only in DBSs but also in other complex samples.
