Lower Cretaceous in the Munella Mountains (Mirdita Zone, northeastern Albania)
Peza, Luftulla Hasan; Marku, D.
2002 - English
The Munella Mountain is located in the Mirdita area, in the northeastern part of Albania. Berrisian, Valanginian deep-water flysch deposits. Unsorted breccias, including large blocks of ophiolites and Triassic limestones lie at the base of the Berriasian. Marls, sandstones, conglomerates with rare limestone intercalations characterize the upper part of the Berriasian. Sandstones and marls with abundant molluscs form the base of the Barremian-Aptian deposits. The highhest part of the section consists of platform limestones in Urgonian facies. An interruption in sedimentation during the Hauterivian was caused by the Mirditean orogeny.

Geomorphological aspects of deep-seated slope deformations in the Vsetín Region
Baroň, I.; Cílek, Václav; Kirchner, Karel; Krejčí, O.; Melichar, R.
2002 - Czech
A complex geomorphic research has been carried out at three deep-seated slope failures in the flysch mountain area near Vsetín (E Moravia, Czech Republic). Main landforms, e. g. rotated bedrock blocks, shallow landslides in colluvial material, pressure ridges or pseudokarstic forms were distinguished and mapped.

Comparison of both quantitative and qualitative water balance regimes on the Lesní potok catchment
Kovář, P.; Korytář, M.; Skřivan, Petr
2001 - Czech
Analysis of the hydrological balance at the Lesní potok catchment and comparison of results with the balance of selected chemical elements. The analysis was performed using the hydrological balance model WBCM-6. Analýza hydrologické bilance na povodí Lesního potoka a porovnání výsledků s hodnotami bilance vybraných chemických prvků. Nástrojem této analýzy je model hydrologické bilance WBCM-6.

An Environmental Impact of Pyritic Bauxite from the Dajti Mine, Albania
Novák, Jiří Karel; Minařík, Luděk; Peza, Luftulla Hasan; Melka, Karel
2000 - English
The accelerated chemical weathering of bauxite due to acid atmospheric deposition and breakdown of pyrite was simulated using short-termed laboratory acid leaching at 20 o C. Pyrite-bearing gibbsite-boehmitic bauxite giving rise to a number of questions concerning ecology was tested along with oxic boehmitic bauxite from the Dajti mine and that from Mali Korites (Mali Thate Mts., SE Albania). The leachte of pyrite-bearing and sulphate-producing bauxite is enriched in the following risk elements: Cd, Be, Zn, Ni, Co, and much less Cr, Cu, As, and Pb. Toxic soluble hydroxy-alumina ions may be also released into the aquatic environment, because of high concentration in output leachate (563 mg/l). In contrast, the leachates of oxic boehmitic bauxites commonly contain much lower concentrations of toxic elements with exception of Cu (Dajti mine) and Be (new occurence of Mali Korites).

Recent allophane coatings from the karst and pseudokarst caves
Melka, Karel; Cílek, Václav
2000 - English
Allophane is not often present in karst caves. As example of its occurence the Aragonite Cave near Ochtiná (Slovakia) can be set out. It was found there in an asbolane profile forming white earthy intercalations or is present in asbolane Mn ochre positions as the admixture. Allophane often occurs as coatings on the walls of abandoned ore mines. It can be also found in pseudokarst ice caves of the Podyjí National Park (the Ledové sluje Caves) in Moravia. The local aggregates form microcascades and flowstone-like structures in which allophane layers alternate with dark brown Al-Fe phosphates, sometimes with BaSo4 enriched laminate. Allophanes of these two localities were recognised by means of laboratory methods, especially electron microprobe analysis, X-ray powder diffraction and thermal analysis.

Pseudokarst caves in the sandstone rocks at Tisá and Rájec (Northern Bohemia)
Mikuláš, Radek
2000 - Czech
The area Tisá and Rájec is well known as an excellent example of "castellated sandstones". However, its caves, though common and interesting, have never been described in more detail. The caves occur often in upper parts of rock pillars, therefore, most of them are accessoble only by climbers. The most impressive example is the "Cave of the Falcon Tower" , i. e., a systém of narrow horizontal tunnels in two levels, reaching more than 20 m in length.
