A polarizable reference electrode

New concept of a reference electrode for electrochemical systems resolves a problem of a poor \npotential stability of refence electrodes based on the distribution of a strongly \nhydrophobic common cation between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (TTTES). The use of a \npolarizable metal electrode instead of a classical reference electrode is demonstrated in \n a modified conventional four-electrode cell with TTTES. A simple battery operated potentiostat \ncontrols the working electrode potential in a three-electrode configuration. The working metal \nelectrode then serves as a polarizable reference organic solvent electrode in a four-electrode \nsystem for the polarization of the water/organic solvent interface.\n\n

Molekulární elektronika je progresivní směr moderní materiálové chemie. Zabývá se vývojem\nelektronických prvků na úrovni jedné molekuly. Nejdůmyslnější molekulární elektroniku\nnajdeme v přírodě v podobě metaloenzymů. Jedním ze směrů výzkumu jejich modelů jsou\nkomplexy různě substituovaných azamakrocyklů. Předností těchto molekul je jejich stabilita a\ndobře definovaná syntéza. Investigated Cu(II) complexes are based on plain or cross-bridged cyclam. The\nelectrochemically inactive cyclam was modified by carboxylate, phosphonate, or phenolate\npendant arms. Cu(II) represents the main redox center of the complexes. Modification of the\nligand causes a changed pattern of complex redox response in buffered aqueous solution.\nIrreversible Cu(II) reduction results in complex decomposition to amalgamated copper and\nligand in excess. After Cu(0) electrochemical in situ re-oxidation, copper and ligand are recomplexed.\nComplexes undergo isomerization, accelerated by increasing the temperature. The\ninfluence of pH on complex isomerization and the reversibility of its reduction was described.

Psilocybin and its derivative psilocin are popular psychoactive substances both as experimental\ntreatments in clinical trials and as illicit drugs. Their potential ability to influence the human\nbrain entails the need for a fast, inexpensive, selective, and sensitive method of their\ndetermination. The aim of our study was the development of new 3D-printed electrodes which\nfulfill these demands and are useful for medical, toxicological, and forensic purposes.\nSuccessful development allows determining in real matrices (human plasma and dried\nmushrooms) concentrations of the order of 1 μmol dm-3.\n

Data o srážkové intenzitě na území Česka s horizontálním rozlišením 1 km2 a časovým krokem 10 minut, získaná adjustací radarových odhadů daty ze srážkoměrných stanic, posloužila k odvození návrhových plošných srážek v českých povodích I. až IV. řádu a v povodích útvarů povrchových vod. Při zdvojnásobení doby akumulace srážky vzroste návrhový úhrn v jednotlivých pixelech v průměru o cca 20 %. S rostoucí plochou povodí velikost návrhových úhrnů klesá, a to především v případě kratších dob akumulace. Data on rainfall intensity on the territory of the Czech Republic with a horizontal resolution of 1 km2 and a time step of 10 minutes, obtained by adjusting radar estimates with data from rain gauge stations, were used to derive design areal precipitation in the Czech river basins of 1st to 4th order and in the basins of surface water bodies. When the rainfall accumulation time is doubled, the design precipitation total in individual pixels increases by about 20% on average. The magnitude of the design totals decreases with increasing catchment area, especially for shorter accumulation periods.

Improving computational efficiency of contact solution in fully resolved CFD-DEM simulations with arbitrarily-shaped solids

The abundance of industrial processes containing both solid and liquid phases generate demand for fully resolved models allowing for detailed analysis and optimization of these processes. An established approach providing such models is based using a variant of an immersed boundary method to couple the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM). In the talk, we will present our custom and monolithic implementation of a fully-resolved CFDDEM solver and concentrate on the intricacies of solving contact between two arbitrarily-shaped solids. We shall propose an efficient contact treatment based on the concept of a virtual mesh, which provides the mesh resolution required by DEM through dividing the space around the contact point in a finite volume fashion without any changes to the CFD mesh itself. A substantial part of the talk will devoted to the parallelization of the contact solution, especially in the context of the domain decomposition method imposed by the CFD solver.

The report summarizes the joint results of the Department of Nuclear Reactors FNSPE, CTU and IT CAS, in the area of thermal and hydraulic calculations of the heat exchanger between the primary and intermediate circuits of the developed small modular reactor (SMR) DAVID. The assignment parameters were further specified during control days and with updated documentation. During the analysis of the initial system parameters, it was found that the original geometric configuration of the exchanger had a completely insufficient surface for heat transfer. A decision was made, several parameters were modified and based on a series of calculations using two independent simplified models, a reasonable configuration with a significantly smaller diameter of the tubes in a significantly larger number was chosen. The pressure losses on both sides of the heat exchanger are within normal ranges and will not cause problems with the construction of these circuits. Although there are differences between the results from both used models, their comparison shows that the chosen different calculation methods lead to approximately the same results and the models do not show fundamental errors.

Text této publikace přináší vhled do problematiky filmové a audiovizuální výchovy v České republice. Rady a tipy jak lze k výuce na různých stupních neformálního vzdělávání přistupovat, a především přehled dvaceti čtyř inspirativních metod a cvičení, jichž lze ve výuce využívat. Může také sloužit jako inspirace pro formální vzdělávání. Text vychází ze zkušeností dvanácti odborníků s dlouholetou praxí v oboru, kteří předkládají čtenářům z řad pedagogů a lektorů svá know-how ve snaze ulehčit jim v pedagogické praxi. Práce je zaměřena na tvůrčí oblast filmové a audiovizuální tvorby i na práci s filmovou projekcí a následnou analýzou audiovizuálních děl, se kterými mohou pedagogové ve výuce kreativně pracovat. Návody, jak filmovou a audiovizuální výchovu efektivně začleňovat do vyučování, i odkazy na vhodnou literaturu a další lektorskou a metodickou pomoc začínajícím pedagogům. The text of this publication provides an insight into issues of film and audiovisual education in the Czech Republic. With the specific advice and tips, how to approach teaching at different levels of non-formal education.

Pojištění v českých domácnostech

Pojištění zvyšuje blahobyt domácností tím, že přenáší nejistotu z jednotlivců, kteří se vyhýbají riziku, na instituce, které jsou vůči riziku neutrální. Hlavním motivem pro nákup pojištění je tedy averze k riziku s cílem vyhnout se ztrátě. Pojištění může zlepšovat finanční odolnost a celkovou finanční stabilitu domácností s obzvláště velkým významem pro domácnosti s nižšími příjmy.\nPoptávka domácností po pojištění závisí na mnoha faktorech, zahrnujících sociodemografické charakteristiky členů domácnosti, ekonomickou strukturu domácnosti, vývoj makroekonomického prostředí, ale také institucionální faktory. Význam mají také specifické preference domácností, jejich postoje a vnímání rizika. Ze všech faktorů je však jako nejdůležitější obecně uváděn příjem domácností, který zásadně ovlivňuje poptávku jak po životním, tak neživotním pojištění.\nŽivotní pojištění má téměř 60 % respondentů, naprostá většina z nich zároveň využívá i nějakou z forem pojištění neživotního (54 % všech respondentů). Na druhou stranu, skoro desetina nemá pojištění vůbec žádné. Alespoň jedno z uvažovaných forem neživotního pojištění obecně využívá většina z celkového počtu respondentů (84,4 %), přičemž pouze neživotní pojištění (a nikoli zároveň životní) má 31 % respondentů.\nPojištění častěji využívají lidé s vyšším vzděláním a také domácnosti s dětmi, což může být spojeno s motivací zajistit své závislé blízké osoby. Značný vliv má příjem domácností a jejich finanční rezervy. Výrazně méně často se pojišťují nízkopříjmové domácnosti, což může být dané tím, že je pro ně pojištění finančně nedostupné. Domácnosti zajištěné dlouhodobou finanční rezervou naopak pojištění využívají častěji. Častěji také životní pojištění využívají lidé, kteří mají i jiné půjčky či úvěry krom hypotéky.\n Insurance increases household welfare by transferring uncertainty from risk-averse individuals to risk-neutral institutions. Thus, the main motive for purchasing insurance is risk aversion to avoid loss. Insurance can improve the financial resilience and overall financial stability of households, with particular importance for low-income households.\nHousehold demand for insurance depends on many factors, including the socio-demographic characteristics of household members, the economic structure of the household, the evolution of the macroeconomic environment, as well as institutional factors. Specific household preferences, attitudes and risk perceptions are also important. However, of all the factors, household income is generally cited as the most important as it has a major impact on demand for both life and non-life insurance.\nAlmost 60% of respondents have life insurance, the vast majority of them also use some form of non-life insurance (54% of all respondents). On the other hand, almost a tenth have no insurance at all. At least one of the considered forms of non-life insurance is generally used by the majority of the total respondents (84.4%), while only 31% of respondents have non-life insurance (and not life insurance at the same time).\nPeople with higher education and households with children are more likely to use insurance, which may be related to the motivation to secure their dependents. Household income and financial reserves have a significant impact. Low-income households are significantly less likely to take out insurance, which may be due to the fact that insurance is unaffordable for them. In contrast, households with long-term financial reserves are more likely to use insurance. Life insurance is also used more often by people who have other loans or credits besides a mortgage.\n
