LIBS assessment of spatial photon-upconversion nanoparticle distribution in model plants (R. sativus and L. minor)
Modlitbová, P.; Novotný, K.; Hlaváček, Antonín; Pořízka, P.; Kaiser, J.
2019 - English
In the present study, radish (Raphanus sativus L.) and common duckweed (Lemna minor L.) were treated with an aqueous dispersion of carboxylated silica-coated photon-upconversion nanoparticles containing rare-earth elements (Y, Yb, and Er). The total content of rare earths and their bioaccumulation factors were determined in the root, hypocotyl, and leaves of R. sativus after 72 hours, and in L. minor fronds after 168 hours. In R. sativus, translocation factors were determined as the ratio of rare earths content in hypocotyl versus roots and in leaves versus hypocotyl. The lengths of the root and hypocotyl in R. sativus, as well as the frond area in L. minor were monitored as toxicity end points. To distinguish rare-earth bioaccumulation patterns, two-dimensional maps of elemental distribution in the whole R. sativus plant and in L. minor fronds were obtained by using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy with a lateral resolution of 100 μm. Obtained results revealed that the tested nanoparticles became adsorbed on L. minor fronds and R. sativus roots, and got transferred from roots through the hypocotyl into leaves in R. sativus. Our results show that bioaccumulation patterns and spatial distribution of rare earths in nanoparticle-treated plants differ from those of positive control (the mixture of YCl3, YbCl3, and ErCl3). Keywords: photonupconversion nanoparticles; luminescent nanomaterials; bioaccumulation Available in digital repository of the ASCR

Quick determination of compounds contained in caraway (Carum carvi L.) by a method usable in agricultural practice
Horáčková, L.; Pluháčková, H.; Bradáčová, M.; Kudláčková, Barbora
2019 - English
Caraway is a very important agricultural commodity whose quality is determined by parameters such as dry matter, essential oil content and composition, especially the ratio of its two major components carvone and limonene. Appropriate method for their analysis is given in the Cesky lekopis (2017), however, this method is rather time-consuming, costly and demands large quantity of sample. The use of a NIR spectrometer could be a viable alternative, it is much faster and cheaper, as can be clearly seen from the comparison of both methods in this paper. In the time aspect, it's saving from many hours to a few minutes. Newly presented method could potentially be more accessible to agricultural companies who need quick quality verification of their product before taking it to the market from the viewpoint of final product quality not just the quantity, which, in most cases, is nowadays a current state of practice. Keywords: caraway; essential oil; carvone; limonene Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Polycyklické aromatické uhlovodíky v PM1 aerosolu na 6 lokalitách v České republice
Křůmal, Kamil; Mikuška, Pavel
2019 - Czech
PAHs byly měřeny v zimní sezóně ve městech Ostrava-Radvanice (průmyslová lokalita), Brno, Mladá Boleslav, Kladno-Švermov, Čelákovice, Košetice (pozaďová lokalita). Z koncentrací PAHs v PM1 aerosolu byly počítány rizika vzniku rakoviny plic. PAHs were measured in winter seasons in cities/towns Ostrava-Radvanice (industrial city), Brno, Mladá Boleslav, Kladno-Švermov, Čelákovice, Košetice (background town). Lifetime lung cancer risks of PAHs were calculated from concentrations of PAHs in PM1 aerosol. Keywords: PAHs; PM1; lung cancer risk Available in digital repository of the ASCR

Václavek, Tomáš; Křenková, Jana; Foret, František
2018 - English
This lecture presents two microfluidic devices as essential units for single cell proteomic analysis, firstly a device for cell counting based on resistive pulse sensing as an alternative to optical platforms based on visual control over the sample input, secondly a unit for electrical lysis of cells using direct current voltage pulses to lyse cells one by one with a possibility to analyze the distinct lysate zones by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. Keywords: microfluidic devices; microextraction of basic drugs; single cell proteomic analysis; electrospray ionization mass spectrometry; cell lysis Fulltext is available at external website.

Impact of post-harvest processing, geographical locality and production year on quality of selected medicinal plants
Burdějová, Lenka; Polovka, M.; Pořízka, J.
2018 - English
This study deals with the assessment of the impact of post-harvest treatment, geographical location and production years on 32 selected characteristics of medicinal plants grown in the Czech Republic. Dimethyl sulfoxide herbal extracts characteristics were evaluated by spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques. The results were processed by analysis of variance and multivariate statistical tools. Obtained results clearly proved the successful differentiation of herbal samples by means of canonical discrimination analysis according to post-harvest treatment (100%), geographical origin (82.9%) and production year (96.1%) confirming that studied factors may have significant effect on quality of medicinal plants. Keywords: HPLC-DAD; ICP-OES; plants extracts; herbal extracts Fulltext is available at external website.
