Sborník jubilejního 15. mezinárodního zasedání k problematice sepulkrálních památek, které se konalo v Praze 19. – 21. října 2016. Tyto pravidelné konference, organizované od r. 2000 Ústavem dějin umění AV ČR, jsou zaměřeny na sepulkrální památky jako hmotné artefakty sepulkrální kultury a umělecká díla v tradičním slova smyslu, s věcným nebo metodickým vztahem ke středoevropskému prostředí. Řada Epigraphica & Sepulcralia je publikačním fórem těchto zasedání od r. 2005. The proceedings of the jubilee 15th international session on the issue of sepulchral monuments, which took place in Prague on 19 October – 21 October 2016. These regular conferences, organized since 2000 by the Institute of Art History CAS, are focused on sepulchral monuments as material artefacts of sepulchral culture and as works of art in the traditional sense of the word, with a factual or methodological relation to the Central European issues. The series Epigraphica & Sepulcralia has been the publication forum of these sessions since 2005.\n

Sborník jubilejního 15. mezinárodního zasedání k problematice sepulkrálních památek, které se konalo v Praze 19. – 21. října 2016. Tyto unikátní pravidelné konference, pořádané od roku 2000 Ústavem dějin umění AV ČR, jsou zaměřeny na sepulkrální památky jako hmotné artefakty sepulkrální kultury a umělecká díla v tradičním pojetí, s věcným či metodickým vztahem ke středoevropskému kontextu. Nevyhýbají se ani tématům, které šířeji osvětlují kontext, ve kterém tyto památky vznikaly a funkčně se uplatňovaly. Důraz je kladen na interdisciplinární charakter zasedání. Vícejazyčná publikace obsahuje celkem 22 statí a 3 kratší zprávy, které pokrývají danou problematiku od středověku do 20. století. Nově byly zařazeny i příspěvky k památkám židovským a islámským. The proceedings of the jubilee 15th international session on the issue of sepulchral monuments, which took place in Prague on 19 October – 21 October 2016. These regular conferences, organized since 2000 by the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, are focused on sepulchral monuments as material artefacts of sepulchral culture and as works of art in the traditional sense of the word, with a factual or methodological relation to Central European issues. However, they do not not avoid themes that more widely explain the context in which these monuments were created and were functionally applied. An emphasis is placed on the nature of interdisciplinary expert meetings. Through their focus and periodicity, they are unique in the pan-European context. A novelty of this session was the inclusion of an independent block devoted to Hebrew monuments. The proceedings are divided into three parts, in terms of the religious context of the discussed themes – hence into parts devoted to Christian, Jewish and finally supplemental, but still in the Central European milieu, Islamic sepulchral monuments. It contains twenty-five papers in total, which deal directly or contextually with sepulchral monuments from the Late Middle Ages to the 21st century. Besides, the territorially Bohemian and Moravian issue as well as the German, Slovak and Polish issues make up a significant share of the work. The series Epigraphica & Sepulcralia has been the publication forum of these sessions since 2005.

Jedním z klíčových problémů, s níž se potýkali profesionální i amatérští fotografové, přírodovědci a koneckonců i umělci pracující s fotografií v 19. století, byla délka expozice fotografického materiálu. Na několika vybraných příkladech z domácí i zahraniční produkce příspěvek popisuje nejen samu proměnu expoziční doby (její zrychlování i zpomalování) v závislosti na vývoji nových fotografických technologií, ale i její praktické využití, proměnu jejího „ideálu“ a v neposlední řadě i související terminologie. One of the key issues met with by professional and amateur photographers, natural scientists and ultimately even artists working with photography in the 19th century was the length of the exposure. Based on several examples from output both at home and abroad, this article describes not only the changing face of exposure time (both faster and slower) as new photographic technologies developed, but also its practical application, the transformation of its „ideal“ and not least, the associated technology.

Two „alternative“ epigraphic inventory acts and their significance for the study of sepulchral monuments

In 2011, a questionnaire inventory of epigraphic sources in the archives of the Czech Republic was carried out in cooperation with the Department of Archival Administration of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic and the Institute of Art History CAS. The integration of epigraphic and sepulchral monuments into one inventory is based on research practice. The publication is in print. The second inventory undertaking sets itself higher objectives both objectively and methodically. It is an epigraphic database of the Center of Epigraphic and Sepulchral Studies of the Institute of Art History CAS. The added value is consideration of the possibilities of application of digital humanities methods.

Svědek zašlých časů: Starý židovský hřbitov v Libni

Starý židovský hřbitov v Libni byl založen v 16. století, první zdokumentované náhrobky pocházejí až ze 17. století. Z hygienických důvodů byl hřbitov uzavřen v roce 1892, kdy se začalo pohřbívat na novém židovském hřbitově v Davídkově ulici. Z průzkumu provedeného v roce 1940, který zaznamenal 626 existujících náhrobků, plyne, že se zde ve výjimečných případech pohřbívalo ještě v roce 1895. \nZmíněný výzkum i bohatá fotografická dokumentace zachytily tradiční ikonografickou výzdobu náhrobků. Vedle geometrických a florálních ornamentů se zde objevoval známý motiv lvů, kohenských rukou i levitské nádoby. \nStarý židovský hřbitov v Libni byl několikrát zmenšen: poprvé před rokem 1875, kdy byla na jeho jižním cípu postavena budova železničního nádraží Dolní Libeň, podruhé během výstavby Libeňského mostu v roce 1929. V rámci akce Za Prahu krásnější byl pak hřbitov v roce 1965 zasypán kamením a zavezen zeminou. \n The Old Jewish Cemetery in Libeň was founded in the 16th century, the first documented tombstones came from the 17th century. The cemetery was closed in 1892 for hygienic reasons, when burials began to take place at the New Jewish Cemetery in Davídková Street. From the research conducted in 1940, which recorded 626 existing tombstones, it arises that in exceptional cases burials were held here still in 1895. The cemetery was reduced in size several times: first before 1875, when the building of the railway station Lower Libeň was built on its southern tip, second during the construction of the Libeň bridgehead in 1929. According to the documentation preserved to this day, there were very valuable Renaissance, Baroque and Classicist tombstones clearly influenced by the urban sepulchral tradition at the cemetery. It was definitely not a rural type of burial ground, as was stated in the report from 1964. In terms of the iconography of the tombstones, traditional Jewish symbols appeared at the cemetery, such as Kohen’s hands and the Levite pitcher, the shofar, crown or in the most recent period a Star of David. Motifs of animals referring to the Hebrew names of the deceased were also common. Within the event For a More Beautiful Prague, the cemetery was covered with stones and buried in the soil in 1965.

Dílna Antonína Suchardy mladšího (1843–1911) vytvořila velké množství kostelního vybavení zejména pro východočeské katolické farnosti, v mnoha případech také restaurovala starší kostelní mobiliář. Na podobu uměleckých děl měl rostoucí vliv Antonínův nejstarší syn Stanislav Sucharda, který pro rodinnou dílnu od dětství pracoval. Organizace a umělecký repertoár novopacké dílny byly rekonstruovány na základě archivních pramenů a komparace se signovanými díly a s návrhovými kresbami ze suchardovské pozůstalosti. The artistic workshop of Antonín Sucharda Jr. (1843–1911) produced furniture and artworks for numerous church interiors of catholic parishes in Eastern Bohemia, and in many cases also restored older church equipment. The design of these artworks was increasingly influenced by Antonín‘s oldest son Stanislav Sucharda, who had been involved in the family workshop since childhood. The organization and artistic repertoire of this workshop were reconstructed, based on archive records and comparison with signed artworks and design drawings from the family heritage.

Ústřední téma příspěvku představuje jedna ze tří mikrodaguerrotypií, které se dochovaly ve středoevropských sbírkách, a sice té, jež se dnes nachází v NTM v Praze a jejíž autorství je tradičně přisuzováno rektoru litomyšlského gymnázia Floru Ignáci Staškovi. Pozornost zde je věnována jak technickým podmínkám možného vzniku tohoto snímku, tak otázce autorství, přičemž je poukázáno na nepřehlédnutelnou roli jednoho z průkopníků fotografie a moderní mikroskopie v Rakousku Carla Schuha. The central focus of the paper is one of three daguerreotype photomicrographs that have been preserved in Central European collections. Namely the one that is to be found today in the National Technical Museum in Prague, which has traditionally been attributed to the rector of the grammar school in Litomyšl (East Bohemia), Florus Ignatz Stašek. Attention is payed both to the technical conditions under which this image may have been created and the question of who was responsible for it, with reference to the role (which cannot be overlooked) played by one of the pioneers of photography and modern microscopy in Austria, Carl Schuh.

Text vychází ze známé skutečnosti, že v 18. století došlo k prolnutí zahradní a architektonické teorie a klade si otázku jak se teorie architektury a teorie zahrad propojily. Podle autorky ke sbližování obou teorií přispěla dobová snaha vytvořit univerzální teorii všech umění, tak jak ji prosazoval J. W. Goethe. The text is based on the well-known fact that in the 18th century a merging of garden theory and architectural theory occurred, and raises the question of how the theory of architecture and the theory of gardens came to be linked. In the author’s view, the two theories were brought closer by the attempt at that time to create a universal theory of all art forms as advocated by Johann Wolfgang Goethe.

Thirteen studies in English and German bring new insights into a number of masterpieces of Bohemian book painting, which have been examined so far mainly from a stylistic point of view. The book also acquaints the readers with unknown or little-known manuscripts. The publication illustrates how the turbulent end of the 14th century and the socio-political changes of the Hussite period influenced the form of manuscript production. The researches, inter alia, focus on the relationship between text and image, the function of the depiction, the mass productin of manuscripts, and the question of what Hussite iconography is.
