Intersubstitutivity

Semantic atomists explain meanings of complex expressions as composed of meanings of their parts Semantic holists insist that meanings of (at least some) wholes are more basic than meanings of parts, and hence they need the relation of intersubstitutivity to get them from the meanings of wholes to those of their parts. As intersubstitutivity is always w.r.t. an equivalence (two expressions are intersubstitutive iff a statement which arises from any statement S by the substitution of one of them for the other is equivalent to S), the crucial question is what could be the meaning-individuating equivalence?. Sameness of truth values, sameness of truth conditions, or rather some king of mutual deducibility? This paper studies the conditions under which intersubstitutivity w.r.t. such possible candidates to meaning-individuating equivalences come to the same. Sémantičtí atomisté chápou významy složených výrazů jako složeniny výrazů jejich částí. Sémantičtí holisté tvrdí, že významy (alespoň některých) celků jsou základnější než významy částí, a tudíž potřebují vztah zaměnitelnosti, aby se dostali od významů celků k významům částí, A protože zaměnitelnost je vždy vzhledem k nějaké ekvivalenci (dva výrazy jsou zaměnitelné, je-li výrok, který vznikne z jakéhokoli výroku S náhradou jednoho z nich tím druhým ekvivalentní S), je zásadní otázkou, co může být onou ekvivalencí, která je schopna vydělovat významy. Stejnost pravdivostních hodnot, stejnost pravdivostních podmínek, nebo snad nějaká vzájemná odvoditelnost? V tomto článku jsou rozebírány podmínky, za kterých vyjde zaměnitelnost vzhledem k takovým různým možným kandidátům na ekvivalence, které by vydělovaly významy, jako stejná.

Are Concepts A Priori?

It is shown that if concepts are conceived of as abstract procedures then their connection to expressions as their meaning is a priori and their link to what they identify is a priosti as well. Článek dokazuje, že pojmy - jsou-li chápány jako abstraktní procedury - jsou s výrazy spojeny jako jejich významy, tedy a prioti, a že jejich vazba na jimi identifikovaný předmět je rovněž a priori.

Synthetic Concepts A Priori

Concepts are explicated as objective procedures ("constructions" in transparent intensional logic). All mathematical concepts are a priori. Analytic mathematical concepts are effective procedures that compute some recursive functions. Synthetic mathematical concepts either identify a non-recursive function or identify a recursive function in a non-effective way. There are more synthetic concepts a priori than analytic concepts a priori. Pojmy jsou explikovány jako objektivní procedury ('konstrukce' v transparentní intenzionální logice). Všechny matematické pojmy jsou a priori. Analytické matematické funkce jsou efektivní procedury, které vypočítávájí rekurzívní funkce. Syntetické matematické pojmy buď identifikují nerekurzivní funkci nebo identifikují rekurzívní funkci neefektivním způsobem. Syntetických pojmů a priori je více než analytických pojmů a priori.

Logis As "Making It Explicit"

The paper fills some technical details into the picture of logic provided by B. Brandom, who sees logical vocabulary first and foremost as a means of making explicit certain rules implicit in our using language. It inspects the usual logical operators and indicates how they can be seen as a means of explicitating inferential structure. It claims that the need of such an explicitation leads to a set of 'inferentially native' operators, which, within various logical systems, can mutate into various forms. Článek doplňuje některé technické detaily do obrázku logiky, se kterým přišel B. Brandom a podle kterého je logický slovník především nástrojem toho, aby mohla být učiněna explicitními určitá pravidla implicitní našemu užívání jazyka. Zkoumá běžné logické operátory a naznačuje, jak mohou být nahlíženy jako prostředek explicitace inferenční struktury. Tvrdí, že potřeba takové explicitace vede k sadě 'inferenčně přirozených' operátorů, které pak v rámci různých logických systémů nabývají různých podob.

Ve své kvestii Utrum Deus super mundum archetypum seu multitudinem idearum, quae sunt rationes vel concausae rerum mundi sensibilis, aeternaliter dominetur, přednesené Mistrem Štěpánem z Pálče na artistické fakultě pražské univerzity před r. 1407-1408, autor zastává učení Johna Wyclifa o platonských ideách.
