2021 - Czech The paper deals with the functioning of the Archaeological Commission of the Czech Academy of Emperor Franz Josef for Science, Literature and the Arts, the full name of the Standing Committee of the Czech Academy to examine and preserve ancient monuments of the country, its history, literature and art from its founding in 1893 to 1918. It pays attention to all three departments of the commission, but focuses its main attention on the archaeological department of the commission and its activities in the field of field research. Příspěvek se zabývá fungováním archeologické komise České akademie císaře Františka Josefa pro vědy, slovesnost a umění, celým názvem Stálé komise České akademie ku prozkoumání a zachování dávnověkých památek země, jejích dějin, literatury a umění od jejího založení v roce 1893 až do roku 1918. Všímá si všech tří odborů komise, ale hlavní pozornost soustřeďuje na archeologický odbor zmíněné komise a jeho činnost na poli terénních výzkumů. Prof. Milada Paulová – historian of the First Resistance

2021 - Czech The primary aim of the study is to bring closer the complicated personality of the Czech historian, originally a Byzantologist, Milada Paulová, and her efforts to accept modern history as a relevant scientific field. Since M. Paulová was one of the so-called engaged historians, her attitude to the Czech and South Slavic anti-Austrian resistance during the First World War and the subsequent establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic was analyzed. The research of the surviving sources so far has shown that the “involvement” of M. Paulová and her preference for modern history – the anti-Habsburg resistance comes later, in connection with her stay in the Kingdom of SHS (1920–1921). The forming influence on her further professional direction was personal contact with personalities of the Czech and South Slavic resistance, as a result of which she essentially left her career as a Byzantologist. At the same time, the study reflects her points of view and briefly evaluates her life’s works: “Jugoslavenski odbor” and “History of Maffia”. Primárním záměrem studie je přiblížení komplikované osobnosti české historičky, původně byzantoložky, Milady Paulové a její snahy o akceptaci moderní historie jako relevantního vědeckého oboru. Vzhledem k tomu, že M. Paulová patřila mezi tzv. angažované historiky, byl analyzován její postoj k českému a jihoslovanskému protirakouskému odboji v době první světové války a následnému vzniku Československé republiky. Dosavadní výzkum dochovaných pramenů ukázal, že „angažovanost“ M. Paulové a její preference moderní historie – protihabsburského odboje přichází později, v souvislosti s jejím pobytem v Království SHS (1920–1921). Formující vliv na její další profesní směřování měl osobní kontakt s osobnostmi českého a jihoslovanského odboje, v jehož důsledku v podstatě opustila nastoupenou kariéru byzantoložky. Studie současně reflektuje její názorová východiska a krátce hodnotí její životní díla: Jugoslavenski odbor a Dějiny Maffie. Guillaume de Machaut at the royal court: the function of the author

2020 - Czech The medieval author eludes both the modern concept of the author and the structuralist concept, because he belongs to a different historical reality: the character of a medieval text, the use of a written record and the way in which a work was disseminated do not correspond to what we consider literature today, and neither the concept of the author nor his status coincide with the modern notion. The origins of modern authorship can be traced as early as the Middle Ages, if we define the author in relation to the text, work and reader, in terms of the status granted to an author by his readers, and also in terms of his subjectivity. Taking as its example the poet and composer Guillaume de Machaut, this paper describes a number of phenomena typical of the Middle Ages, when oral performances and commissions by patrons dominated. It also describes the genesis of the author’s subjectivity, which was formed in relation to his patron and reflects Machaut´s social role. Středověký autor se vymyká jak modernímu pojetí autora, tak i pojetí strukturalistickému zejména proto, že je zakotven ve zcela odlišné historické realitě: charakter středověkého textu, používání psaného záznamu, ani způsob šíření díla neodpovídají tomu, co dnes považujeme za literaturu, a ani pojem či status autora se s moderní představou příliš nepřekrývá. Počátky moderního autorství lze ale sledovat již ve středověku, zejména definujeme-li autora ve vztahu k textu, dílu a čtenáři, a to jednak statusem autora, který mu přiznali čtenáři a jednak subjektivitou, tj. vědomím sebe sama jako tvůrce. Na příkladu básníka a hudebního skladatele Guillauma de Machaut popisuje tato studie jak řadu fenoménů typických pro středověk, kdy dominovala orální performance, objednávka mecenáše a kdy byla umělecká tvorba plně integrována do běžného života, tak i zrození subjektivity autora, která se utváří ve vztahu k mecenáši a je důsledkem reflexe vlastní sociální role v dvorském prostředí.
