Belief in the Internet and Critical Thinking

2011 - English The present-day young generation routinely use the Internet as readily available source of facts, entertainment and communication. Everyday life creates a belief in the acquired information, its freshness and quality. Comfortable working with keywords and search engines further strengthens this belief, although the information may be outdated and the sources questionable. The blind faith in the Internet infected some university students, even in higher classes, where we should expect and require a significant degree of analytical thinking and critical approach. The more it applies to marketing communication students who need to acquire much deeper insight at the forms and mechanisms of media and information environment. The author shows by the results his research that even among students of this branch the situation is far from ideal. Lecturers need to educate independently and critically thinking graduates, whether the development of information technologies will bring anything. Současná mladá generace zcela rutinně používá internet jako snadno a rychle dostupný zdroj informací, zábavy a komunikace. Každodennost vytváří víru v aktuálnost a kvalitu získaných informací. Pohodlná práce s klíčovými slovy a vyhledávači tuto víru dále posiluje, přestože se mnohdy jedná o zastaralé informace nebo pochybné zdroje. Slepou vírou v internet jsou infikováni i někteří studenti vysokých škol, dokonce i ve vyšších ročnících, kde bychom měli očekávat a vyžadovat výraznou míru analytického myšlení a kritického přístupu. Tím více to platí o studentech marketingové komunikace, kteří si musejí osvojit mnohem hlubší pohled na formy a mechanismy fungování mediálního a informačního prostředí. Autor na výsledcích výzkumu mezi studenty tohoto zaměření ukazuje, že ani zde není situace ideální. Pedagogové musejí vychovávat samostatně a kriticky myslící absolventy, ať už budoucí rozvoj informačních technologií přinese cokoliv.
