Diagnostic Lithium Beam System for COMPASS Tokamak

The COMPASS tokamak has been re-installed in IPP Prague after its transport from Culham in UK. A Diagnostic Lithium Beam system is being developed for COMPASS tokamak. Its main goal is to provide edge density (Beam Emission Spectroscopy) and edge plasma current (Atomic Beam Probe) measurements to address the scientific programme focused on H-mode and pedestal physics. It features several newly designed and developed parts, including improved emitter and neutralizer. Atomic Beam Probe is an innovatory diagnostic for measurement of poloidal magnetic field and plasma current fluctuations in the plasma edge. Currently, the system is connected to tokamak (August 2011) and first experiments with plasma were performed. The system still undergoes vacuum, neutralization and high voltage testing. This article reviews the concept and current state of the Lithium Beam diagnostic for COMPASS and provides its first test results. The paper outlines main parameters and characteristics of the multichannel optical system for visible plasma radiation measurements, which is currently under construction on the COMPASS tokamak. Alignment of the fiber endpiece and the detector is described in the contribution. Measured spectra in wavelength ranges 250-475 nm and 457–663nm are shown for typical short-lasting discharges of the COMPASS tokamak, which is not yet equipped with a plasma position stabilization system. The COMPASS tokamak has been re-installed in IPP Prague after its transport from Culham in UK. New diagnostic tools are under development to address the scientific program focused on H-mode and pedestal physics. Atomic Beam Probe (ABP) is an innovatory diagnostic for measurement of poloidal magnetic field and plasma current fluctuations in the plasma edge. It is planned to be an extension of the beam emission spectroscopy system by collecting the lithium ions stemming from beam ionization. In the first approximation, ionization is proportional to the local plasma density. The poloidal magnetic field moves the ions toroidally. Therefore, the two-dimensional poloidal-toroidal measurement of the ion current in the exit port reveals information on both the density and magnetic field profiles, thereby also on the edge current profile. This article reviews the concept of the ABP diagnostic and the status of its installation on the COMPASS tokamak. Data Acquisition System and Data Processing for the New Thomson Scattering System on the COMPASS Tokamak

The Thomson scattering (TS) will be one of crucial plasma diagnostics of the COMPASS tokamak. This newly build-up multi-point system consists of two Nd:YAG lasers (1.6J at 1064nm, 30Hz each) and cascade filter polychromators with avalanche photodiodes. It will enable measurements of both the electron temperature Te (20eV − 5000eV ) and density ne (1019 − 1020m−3) profiles with spatial resolution up to 3mm in the vertical direction in 56 spatial points. The uniquely designed complex data acquisition system based on fast analog digital convertors (1GS/s) reflects the need to retrieve/digitize the signal originated from scattering process of the laser pulse lasting less than 10ns. This paper presents a detailed review of the architecture of the control and the data acquisition (DAQ) system and its features. LabViewr will be used as a main layer for the TS data acquisition. Paper deals with properties of the in-flight state powder particles subjected to spraying via water stabilized plasma torch. Properties such as chemical and phase composition and characterization of the microstructure are described. Severe evaporation of Al is observed. Práce se zabývá vlastnostmi částic ve stavu bezprostředně po průchodu plasmovým plamenem typu WSP. Prášek je charakterizován z hlediska chemického a fázového složení. Intermetallic materials can provide high corrosion and wear resistance up to elevated temperatures. Their disadvantage is their fragility. In this paper possibility of preparation of the Fe-Al based coating on ductile substrate, as well as their microstructure and fatigue properties are discussed. Intermetalické materiály vykazují vysokou odolnost proti korozi a otěru i při zvýšených teplotách. Nevýhodou je jejich křehkost. V tomto článku je diskutována možnost přípravy povrchových vrstev na bázi Fe-Al na tvárném substrátu, dále pak jejich mikrostruktura a únavové vlastnosti. Motion of Charged Particles in Perturbed Magnetic Fields of Tokamak

In this paper we present two Hamiltonian approaches–full and drift–for description of charged particles (e.g. electrons, D+) in magnetic field of a tokamak. We use a basic magnetic toroidal field configuration with shear plus overlapping island chains creating magnetic ergodic layer. We would like to use this apparatus for solving two physical problems. Firstly for an estimate of generation of electric field in edge plasma caused by addition of “ergodic coils”, which could serve as a mechanism for mitigation of ELMs and is will be studied on the COMPASS tokamak. Secondly we want to use the apparatus for tracing the influence on runaway electrons (energy 10 MeV) in the presence of magnetic field generated by Error Field Correction Coils (EFCCs) as are installed on JET Tokamak. V tomto článku popisujeme dva hamiltonovské přístupy – plný a driftový – pro popis nabitých částic (kupř. elektronů, D+) v magnetickém poli tokamaku. Používáme základní toroidální konfiguraci pole s překrývajícími se řetězci ostrovů vytvářejících magnetickou ergodickou vrstvu. Chceme použít tento aparát pro řešení dvou fyzikálních problémů Za prvé pro odhad generace elektrického pole v okrajovém plazmatu způsobeného přidáním „ergodických cívek“, které mohou sloužit jako mechanismus potlačení okrajových nestabilit (ELMů) a budou studovány na tokamaku COMPASS. Za druhé chceme tento aparát použít pro sledování vlivu na runaway elektrony (energie kolem 10 MeV) v přítomnosti magnetických polí generovaných korekčními cívkami (EFCC) instalovanými na tokamaku JET. STATISTICAL PROCESSING OF PLASMA JET IMAGES FOR VISUALIZATION OF FLOW INSTABILITIES

The structure and stability of a thermal plasma jet were studied on the basis of statistical analysis of images of a plasma jet taken by a fast shutter camera. The space distribution of the mean value and the standard deviation of image brightness were evaluated from a sequence of images. The short exposure time ensured imaging of the momentary state of the jet while analysis of a sequence of images provided information about jet fluctuations. Effect of arc current was investigated. Arc power increase led to higher fluctuations of the jet, although it caused increase of the jet length. Struktura a stabilita proudu termického plazmatu byly studovány pomocí statistického zpracování fotografických obrázků proudění plazmatu. Prostorová rozdělení průměrné hodnoty a směrodatné odchylky jasu byly vyhodnoceny z sekvence obrázků. Krátký čas expozice zajišťoval zápis okamžitého stavu proudění. Pomocí analýzy sekvence fotografických obrázků byly studovány fluktuace proudění. Bylo pozorováno zvětšení intenzity fluktuací při zvětšení výkonu plazmatronu. Práce je zaměřena na odstranění širokospektrálního tetracyklinového antibiotika určeného khromadné léčebné a preventivní aplikaci u zvířat. Veterinární léčivo, které obsahuje tetracyklin a jeho deriváty, se po dokončení výrobní kampaně dostává ve vysoké koncentraci do odpadních vod. K likvidaci organických částí odpadů je použita metoda založená na oxidaci antibiotika okyseleným roztokem manganistanu draselného. Metoda likvidace bude zavedena ve firmě TEKRO, spol. sr.o. The work is focused on the removal of a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic intended for mass therapeutic and preventive application in animals. The veterinary drug, which contains tetracycline and its derivatives, reaches the waste water at a high concentration after completion of the production campaign. A method based on the oxidation of an antibiotic with an acidified solution of potassium permanganate is used for the disposal of organic waste.
