The diploma paper is generally concerned with the influence of colonialism in J. F. Cooper's most popular literary fiction The Last of the Mohicans (1826). The aim of this thesis is to analyse the era of colonialism in the eastern part of contemporary USA, the stereotypes in the portrayal of Indians and interracial relationships as they are depicted in The Last of the Mohicans. The work is divided into three chapters where the theoretical and analytical parts are interconnected. Performance management has become top on attention of the public-sector management because many services in advanced economies, such as those of the U.K. and Scandinavia and other developing countries, have come under pressure to become more efficient and effective, to reduce their demands on taxpayers, while maintaining the volume and quality of services supplied to the public. To achieve this, they have been subjected to the introduction of various performance management techniques. Content analyses of published and unpublished articles, books, strategic plans of selected public sector, were selected randomly through different sources that contains the application of PMT in local government. It was observed from the analyses that performance management is diversely in management practice in the selected metropolitan boroughs. This Master's thesis focuses on the change in the human perception of nature from the Industrial Revolution until the end of 19th century. The thesis provides brief characteristics of particularly the concept of wilderness, Ecocriticism, and Transcendentalism. The main part of the thesis presents a description of the then context (policy, society, and economy), the primal idea of national parks, a brief history of the oldest national parks and a list of crucial people who participated in their establishing. The Master's thesis deals with providing feedback in ELT lessons. The work is divided into two main parts. The theoretical part introduces the importance of communication, explains the term interaction and introduces classroom communication, which is a special type of social communication. Evaluation as a covering term including feedback is introduced in the next part of the thesis. Different types and techniques of feedback are the main topic of the third chapter. The theoretical part concludes with the introduction of a taxonomy of objectives in relation to feedback. In the practical part, whether the provided feedback is in alignment with the objectives of individual activities is mapped with the use of observations and short interviews. Estrangement in the Wake of Japanese Internment in Obasan by Joy Kogawa and No-No Boy by John Okada

This thesis deals with the depiction of the consequences related to the internment of Japanese Americans and Japanese Canadians in John Okada's No-No Boy and Joy Kogawa's Obasan. The initial part of the paper outlines the events that gave rise to the internment during the World War II. These basics are elaborated on in connection with both analysed novels as the issue of estrangement from one's family and social group due to intergenerational conflicts and racism is given precedence. The main focus is on the possibility of portraying the past objectively, predominantly utilizing Hayden White's ideas and terminology. The subsequent analysis shows how both novels shaped today's perception of the internment. Influence of the Iroquois League of Nations on Thomas Paine's Political Thought

This diploma paper is interested in a relatively new academic hypothesis which asserts that the Iroquois League of Nations profoundly influenced the political constructs of the early American Republic. The diploma paper primarily deals with the Anglo-American radical democrat Thomas Paine's political thought as it was expressed in his pamphlet Common Sense (1776) and Agrarian Justice (1797) in the context of this general hypothesis. The aim of this diploma thesis is to demonstrate a possible influence of the Iroquois League of Nations on Paine's political constructs of an early American Republic such as the state of nature, human rights and notion of property. This master thesis deals with the issue of learner autonomy in English language learning. It is divided into the theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part describes ways of learner autonomy development within and outside of the Czech educational system. Also it aims to identify factors that influence learner autonomy development. The empirical part is a case study of a selected elementary school class. The aim was to describe how various factors influence learner autonomy development and how learner autonomy is developed in the particular class. The findings of the study are analysed with respect to the theoretical basis. Tato diplomová práce se zabývá regionální diferenciací rozvojových zemí ze sociologického a ekonomického pohledu. Je v ní uvedena problematika rozvojových zemí všeobecně a poté se zabývá konkrétními případy, jejimž jsou Jihoafrická republika a Botswana. Cíl této práce je definovat sociální a ekonomické rozdíly mezi Jihoafrickou republikou a Botswanou. V závěrečné části je provedena statistická analýza, která zkoumá korelaci mezi jednotlivými sociologickými a ekonomickými ukazateli vůči indikátorům ekonomické aktivity. This thesis is concerned with the depicton of the rural landscape in several selected travelogues from early twentieth century British literature, namely by W. H. Hudson, H. V. Morton and. Edward Thomas. The interwar period in Great Britain is specific for its emphasizing of the concept of Englishness and its interest in the English rural landscape. In the theoretical chapters the thesis strives to provide theoretical background concerning the terms landscape and Englishness and the relationship between them. The analytical part analyzes the texts from the viewpoints discussed in the theoretical part. The conclusion summarizes the results.
