ISI ASCR in Brno is primarily a methodological institute creating and developing new experimental methods for several areas of physics, chemistry and biomedicine. Among these, methodology of the scanning electron microscopy occupies an important position. One of long time projects concerns microscopy with very slow electrons, much slower than what was for decades, until quite recently, available at the market of microscopes. Demonstration of new instrumental methods needs to have good partners in application areas, willing to enter unknown territories. On this basis, the collaboration between the University of Toyama and ISI in Brno exists and flourishes, producing plenty of common results and success stories.

The seminar is periodically prepared by ISI AS CR v.v.i., Department of Electron Optics and it is a traditional opportunity for scientific discussion of topics regarding creation and formation of charged particles beams and its usage. Sborník semináře o současných trendech v elektronové optice a přístrojové technice pro povrchovou fyziku, který se uskutečnil ve dnech 14.–18. července 2008 v hotelu Skalský dvůr na Českomoravské vrchovině. Akci pravidelně pořádá oddělení Elektronové optiky Ústavu přístrojové techniky AV ČR, v. v. i., a je tradiční příležitostí k setkávání vědců, kteří pracují v oblastech týkajících se vytváření a formování svazků nabitých částic a jejich využití.

Two or four page papers are included. Sborník obsahuje všech 27 příspěvků prezentovaných na 10. Mezinárodním semináři o současných trendech v optice nabitých částic a přístrojové technice pro fyziku povrchů, který se konal na Skalském dvoře květnu 2006. Příspěvky jsou předkládány v podobě dvou nebo čtyřstránkových textů.

Je předloženo 17 dvou- až čtyřstránkových rozšířených abstraktů prací doktorandů Oddělení elektronové optiky, které byly předneseny na konferenci konané dne 19. prosince 2006 v Ústavu přístrojové techniky AV ČR v Brně. Altogether 17, two to four page extended abstracts of works being performed by doctoral students of the Department of electron optics are included, as they were presented at the conference taking place on December 19, 2006, in the Institute of Scientific Instruments AS CR in Brno.

Elektronová mikroskopie a optika má v Brně mnohaletou tradici a v současné době se v Brně významně rozšiřuje jak vývoj tak, i výroba elektronových mikroskopů. Vzniká tak akutní potřeba vychovat další generace odborníků. Zkušenost dostatečně prokázala, že má-li být průmysl elektronových mikroskopů úspěšný, musí v něm být přítomno vysoké procento pracovníků s vědeckým vzděláním a vědeckým přístupem k problémům. Toto jsou příčiny, proč oddělení elektronové optiky Ústavu přístrojové techniky přijímá do svých řad studenty postgraduálního doktorandského studia v počtu téměř se rovnajícím počtu vědeckých pracovníků. Oborová rada oboru elektronová optika ÚPT se v roce 2002 usnesla pořádat každoroční Seminář doktorandů, na němž budou ústně prezentovány práce studentů PDS, nacházejících se ve všech fázích jejich studia. Navíc se rozhodla tyto práce v podobě rozšířených dvou- až čtyřstránkových abstraktů publikovat ve zvláštním svazku. V současné době vyšel již třetí sborník PDS 2004. The electron microscopy and optics have long term tradition in Brno and now the development and production of microscopes in Brno rapidly increases. So, strong need arises for education of a new generation of specialists. Experience had shown that there have to be a high proportion of workers with scientific education and scientific approach to solve the problems in the electron microscope industry. These are the reasons, why the Electron optics department of the Institute of Scientific Instruments educates students of postgraduate study in a number nearly equal to a number of scientific workers. In 2002 the board of the Electron optics department decided to organize annually the Seminar of postgraduate students, where the works of PhD students in all stages of their study will be orally presented. Moreover, it decided to publish these works in a special volume in the form of extended abstracts of two- to four-pages. Now, third volume of this proceeding, PDS 2004, has been published.

From one point of view this seminar is to differ from those that have gone before, since we have taken the liberty of holding the meeting in honour of Professor Armin Delong on the occasion of his 80th birthday Dva roky uplynuly a opět máme to potěšení přivítat účastníky na semináři Nové Trendy - již devátém v pořadí. V jednom ohledu je tento seminář odlišný od předchozích, neboť jsme si dovolili uspořádat tento seminář na počest profesora Armina Delonga u příležitosti jeho osmdesátých narozenin

Tento svazek obsahuje rozšířená abstrakta krátkých rukopisů z příspěvků ústně prezentovaných na jednodenním semináři doktorandů Oboru elektronové optiky Ústavu přístrojové techniky AV ČR v Brně. Účelem takového semináře, určeného na začátek školního roku 2002, bylo poskytnout studentům příležitost prezentovat a vzájemně konfrontovat své první výsledky a výzkumné plány a dát jim možnost účastnit se procesu přípravy a poskytování publikace do sborníku. The volume contains extended abstracts or short manuscripts of contributions orally presented at one-day seminar of the doctoral students in Division of electron optics of the Institute of Scientific Instruments ASCR in Brno. The purpose of the first seminar of this kind, dated by the school year beginning in 2002, was to provide the students with opportunity to present and mutually confront their preliminary results and research plans and to pass the procedure of preparing and submitting a paper to proceedings.
