2023 - English Anotace Tato diplomová práce se zabývá literárním znázorněním žen ve třech odlišných románech zasazených do různých historických období ve státu Louisiana. Předmětem analýzy jsou romány The Grandissimes od George W. Cablea, The Awakening od Kate Chopinové a Catherine Carmier od Ernesta J. Gainese. Práce začíná souhrnným historickým a kulturním kontextem Louisiany, zdůrazňujícím postavení žen, rasové, etnické a náboženské vlivy. Poté je každý z autorů zkoumám jednotlivě včetně svého života, literární kariéry a hlavních témat, kterým se ve svém díle věnuje. Speciální pozornost je věnována významným ženským postavám, s důrazem na jejich roli v ději, individuální příběhy, motivace, kulturní, náboženský a společenský kontext. Porovnáním společných a odlišných znaků těchto ženských postav, které sdílejí francouzský původ a katolickou víru, si práce klade za cíl zlepšit pochopení reprezentace žen v louisianské literatuře. Abstract This thesis examines the portrayal of women in three distinct novels set in different historical periods within the State of Louisiana. The novels under analysis are The Grandissimes by George W. Cable, The Awakening by Kate Chopin, and Catherine Carmier by Ernest J. Gaines. The thesis begins by providing a comprehensive historical and cultural background of Louisiana, focusing on the treatment of women, and highlighting racial, ethnic, and religious influences. Each author is then individually examined along with their life, literary career, and the central themes they explore. Special attention is given to the prominent female characters in each work, with an emphasis on their individual stories, cultural and social contexts, and roles within the narrative. By comparing the portrayals of these female characters, who share French ancestry and the Catholic faith, the thesis aims to enhance understanding of the representation of women in Louisiana literature. 2023 - English Tato diplomová práce zjišťuje míru autentičnosti modelových dialogů v učebnicích anglického jazyka a scénářů situačních komedií. Jejím cílem je prokázat, zda scénáristé situačních komedií předkládají autentičtější dialogy než autoři učebnic anglického jazyka. Teoretická část je věnována procesu komunikace, jejím modelům a kanálům. Dále je ve stručnosti popsán pragmatický aspekt sociální interakce a je vyzdvižena klíčová role kontextu při procesu komunikace. Pozornost je také věnovaná kolokacím a žánru situační komedie. V praktické části je představena analýza nasbíraných dialogů ze čtyř situačních komedií a učebnic angličtiny pro pokročilé uživatele (úroveň C1-C2). Jsou zvoleny dva sitcomy od britských tvůrců a dva od amerických, které jsou srovnány s britskými a americkými učebnicemi angličtiny (CAE a TOEFL). Výzkum se soustředí na nejčastěji se vyskytující podstatná jména a jejich kolokace. Výsledky výzkumu jsou následně také porovnány s národními korpusy anglické a americké mluvené angličtiny. Výsledek diplomové práce ukazuje, že situační komedie i učebnice pro pokročilé uživatele angličtiny zahrnují autentické dialogy. This diploma thesis measures the authenticity of model dialogues in English textbooks for advanced learners and conversations occurring in situation comedies. The theoretical part focuses on the communication process, its models and channels. Subsequently, context is presented as well as its importance in speech. Attention is then paid to collocations as well as to classification of the genre of situation comedy. The practical part presents the research of sitcom and textbooks dialogues. The data were collected from four sitcoms (two of British and American origin) and CAE and TOEFL textbooks. The analysis concentrates on the most frequent nouns and their collocations. The findings are then compared, and the most frequent expressions are studied with the help of national corpora of British and American spoken English. The result of this thesis is that both textbook and sitcom dialogues include authentic material. Available in the Digital Repository of University of South Bohemia. Vampirism and Queerness in Nineteenth-Century Literature

2023 - English Cílem této práce je analýza spojení mezi vampirismem a queer motivy v dílech Drákula od Brama Stokera a Krev upírky od Florence Marryat. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do tří částí. První část se zabývá vztahem viktoriánské Anglie k sexualitě a spojitostí mezi queer motivy a gotickým románem 19. století. Věnujeme se zde rozdílnému vnímání mužské a ženské homosexuality a zobrazování tzv. "Others" v dobové literatuře. Ve druhé části se zaměříme na interpretaci díla Drákula z hlediska queer teorie, a to prostřednictvím hraběte Drákuly a role, kterou v románu představuje, včetně jeho vztahu k ostatním mužským postavám. Třetí část se soustředí na analýzu díla Krev upírky, které popisuje osud ženské upírky Harriet Brandt. Nakonec se práce zabývá aspekty jinakosti, kterými Harriet ohrožuje viktoriánskou společnost, a zároveň dvojznačným chápáním tohoto díla. The aim of this thesis is the analysis of the connection between vampirism and queerness in Bram Stoker's Dracula and Florence Marryat's The Blood of the Vampire. The Master's thesis is divided into three parts. The first part examines the relationship of Victorian England to sexuality and the connection between queerness and the 19th-century Gothic novel. We will pay attention to the different perceptions of male and female homosexuality and the portrayal of the so-called "Others" in contemporary literature. In the second part, we will focus on the interpretation of Dracula in terms of queerness, namely through Count Dracula and the role he plays in the novel, including his relations to the other male characters in the novel. The third part concentrates on the analysis of The Blood of the Vampire, describing the fate of female vampire Harriet Brandt. Finally, the thesis explores the aspects of Harriet's Otherness that Harriet threatens Victorian society with, as well as the ambiguous understanding of this work. 2023 - English Náplní této diplomové práce je analýza vybraných her amerického dramatika Edwarda Albeeho zaměřená na psychologickou analýzu jednání jednotlivých postav a jejich rodinných a partnerských vztahů. Práce v úvodu představí osobnost a charakterizuje tvorbu Edwarda Albeeho v kontextu jeho doby. Teoretickým východiskem práce je seznámení s tvůrci absurdního dramatu a přiblížení hlavních prvků absurdního divadla ve vztahu k filosofii existencialismu a jejím představitelům s důrazem na význam komunikace a hledání individuální identity ve filosofii existencialisty Karla Jasperse. Jádrem práce je analýza vybraných her z hlediska rodinné a partnerské krize. Na příkladech konkrétních postav je zkoumáno téma ztráty a hledání identity a jeho souvislost s odcizením a absencí významu v soukromých i společenských vztazích. This thesis aims to analyze selected plays by the American playwright Edward Albee, focusing on the psychological analysis of individual characters and their family and partner relationships. The thesis introduces Edward Albee, his life, and the characteristics of his work in the context of his time. The theoretical background presents the writers of the Theatre of the Absurd and its main elements in relation to the philosophy of existentialism and its representatives, emphasizing the importance of communication and the search for individual identity in the philosophy of existentialist Karl Jaspers. The core of the thesis analyzes selected plays in terms of family and partnership crises. The theme of loss, search for identity, and its relation to alienation and the absence of meaning in personal and social relationships is explored through the examples of specific characters. 2023 - English Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na memoáry amerických veteránů z války ve Vietnamu. Pomocí analýzy vybraných děl je představen jejich jedinečný pohled a osobní zkušenost s touto válkou. V této diplomové práci je poukázáno na trauma a stres kterému byli mladí lidé vystaveni. Poukazuje také na psychologické dopady války na jednotlivce a zvládání dopadů pomocí návykových látek. Zároveň se tato práce zabývá kritice války ve Vietnamu, čemuž přispěla média, která umožnila přenést svědectví o hrůzách do domů obyvatel v USA a v celém světě. Tato svědectví však byla často upravována tak aby oslavovala americkou vojenskou sílu a bagatelizovala lidskou cenu války. This thesis focuses on the memoirs of American veterans of the Vietnam War. Through the analysis of selected works, their unique perspective and personal experience of this war are presented. This thesis highlights the trauma and stresses the young men were exposed to, as well as the psychological effects of war on individuals and coping with the effects through the use of addictive substances. Furthermore, this thesis examines the criticism of the Vietnam War, which has been aided by the media that has allowed testimonies of the horrors to be brought into the homes of people in the US and around the world. However, these testimonies have often been edited to glorify American military power and downplay the human cost of war. 2023 - English common buckwheat (fagopyrum esculentum Monech) consumption has many of the health benefits due to its high levels of phenolic compounds in groats and high antioxidant activity. The aim of the work was to test the possibility of cookies production with graduated proportion of different buckwheat flours from sprouts and evaluate their selected qualitative properties. Blends of wheat flours and buckwheat sprout flours containing 0%,5%, 10%,and 20%buckwheat sprouts , on a replacement basis , were prepared .flour characteristics as water absorption capacity , bulk density forming capacity , swelling capacity were determined .Physical ( diameter ,thickness, spread ratio, spread factor, weight hardness and colour)and sensory characteristics of cookies ( colour and appearance , flavour, taste texture and overall acceptability ) were also determined .The addition of buckwheat sprout mainly affected the colour properties of the cookies .. of the properties of flour enriched with buckwheat sprouts, water absorption capacity was affected only by the addition of 20% buckwheat sprout and swelling capacity by the addition of 15 and 20% sprouts .of the sensory properties of the cookies , the taste and flavour of the cookies was negatively affected only by 20% share of buckwheat sprout in flour ,therefore , we can recommend the addition of buckwheat sprouts to wheat flour up to 15% for the production of cookies . The significant of a well- balanced diet in the prevention of numerous disease is a well known , consequently , individual nutrition should be aimed at the disease prevention , improving the quality of life and attenuating the process of body ageing. common buckwheat has been a crop of the secondary importance in many countries . it is a sources source of nutrient in general and has many health benefits mainly due to high phenolic compounds in groat and high antioxidant activity. since buckwheat is a gluten free ,thus ,replacing wheat flour in product will dilute the gluten protein and thereby help in preventing celiac disorder . Buckwheat act as good replacement for wheat flour in unleaving product eg cookies.it belong to the family polygonacea . this plant is generally referred to as buckwheat rhrubarb or sorrel family. The common buckwheat plant is a branching habit . common buckwheat was domesticated possibly around 6000BCE when it was first cultivated in southeast Asia .the use of sprout as an ingredient in food product is an interesting method of improving the nutritional value of food , as well as a safer way to ingest sprout , since food processing can reduce microbial contamination and consequently decrease the occurrences of food-borne disease . the germination process is accepted by customers , as well as the product made from the germinated grains or from their flour. 2023 - English Hlavním cílem této práce bylo zhodnotit proveditelnost výroby udržitelných a biologicky odbouratelných filmů pro balení potravin vyrobených z rostlinných surovin metodou odlévání. Specifické cíle byly následující: a) Optimalizace kroků odlévací metody pro přípravu filmů na základě použití různých druhů mouk, stanovení jejich fyzikálních vlastností (barva, soudržnost, pružnost). b) Příprava biofilmů z vybraných druhů mouk, vyhodnocení jejich fyzikálních a mechanických vlastností (vizuální a hmatové aspekty, barva, tloušťka, vlhkost). c) Zkoumání biologické rozložitelnosti získaných materiálů na základě enzymatické degradace ve vodním prostředí a ve vodě samotné. The main aim of the thesis was to evaluate the feasibility of the production of sustainable and biodegradable films for food packaging made from raw plant materials using casting method. Specific objectives were: a) Optimization of the steps of the casting method for films preparation based on the use of different types of flours, determination of their physical properties (colour, cohesiveness, elasticity). b) Preparation of biobased plastic material from selected types of flours, determi-nation of their physical and mechanical properties (visual and tactile aspects, colour, thickness, moisture content). c) Investigation of the biodegradability of prepared materials based on enzymatic degradation in water suspension and water itself.
