Pragmatic Functions of Imperatives in Conversation

This paper focuses on functions of imperatives in English conversation from the viewpoint of pragmatics. The theoretical part deals discusses morphosyntactic features of imperatives and types of imperative constructions. Further, functions of imperatives are described in the context of speech acts and politeness strategies. The practical part is concerned with analysis of imperative constructions in a selected TV series and with their interpretation with regard to the context.

Dysfunctional Families in Selected Contemporary Novels

In this dissertation, the four contemporary novels (Bastard out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison, Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh and Solace of the Road by Siobhan Dowd) will be analyzed by focusing on their depiction of dysfunctional families, along with emotional and physical anguish which affect the characters in the novels. In the novels, how troubled childhood and traumas have an impact on the protagonists’ coming-of-ages and identity formations will be discussed. Besides, the working through and acting out of remembering trauma modes will be explained during the analyses of the novels to comprehend how the victims are influenced by their traumas and they become survivor in the selected novels.

Cílem práce bylo postihnutí celé problematiky cestovního ruchu v souvislosti s geografickými, ekonomickými a sociálními aspekty na rozvoj daného území třetího světa. Součástí práce byla analýza možností uplatnění manažerských přístupů k prosazení environmentálně šetrného cestovního ruchu a analýza úspěšnosti použitých manažerských metod a ekonomických přínosů projektu, který bude realizován v Megháláji, SV Indii.

This diploma thesis present analysis of the process of specific mobility volunteering project EVS (European Voluntary Service, funded by Erasmus+ program of EU) and foreign volunteering youth (age 17-30) and their involvement in it seen by ritual approach. The case-study had been performed in the city of Hradec Králové (Czech Republic). The aim is to interpret the EVS project as a kind of contemporary ritual in adulthood. It also shows how individuals pass through it by assimilation, and perceiving new culture and language different from their own.

Types of Backchannelling in Dialogues of Modern English Fiction

This master thesis is focused on the types of backchannelling in the dialogues of modern English fiction. The theoretical part introduces the genre of conversation, describes its structure and main principles and examines conversational language. In addition, the concept of backchannelling is defined and a list of backchannel forms and functions is provided. The aim of the practical part is to analyse the occurrence of different types of backchannelling in the dialogues of modern English fiction. The findings of the analysis are compared and contrasted with the findings of the analysis of authentic conversation in order to discover the similarities and differences in the use of backchannels between both genres.

Individualisation and Differentiation in secondary English classes: focus on talented learners

This thesis aims to analyse and focus on individualisation and differentiation of high-level pupils in common heterogeneous English classes. Action research, carried in lower secondary school, aims to increase an inner differentiation in common English classes. The theoretical part focuses on defining the terms talented or gifted, with further focus on four most common types of conception of the matter. The part continues by specifying a closely related term underachievers followed by several possible ways of a reform, with the focus on inner differentiation. The final part of this paper summarizes practical teaching ideas for an individualisation and inner differentiation of high-level pupils into common classes. The main idea of the inner differentiation is to extend the curriculum of talented pupils with the aim to develop and deepen their knowledge effectively in common English classes to its possible extent.

The thesis talks about the use of swot analysis in decision making process to decide upon which financial payment instrument is less risky to use when paying for transactions. The author chose three commonly used financial payment instrument as alternatives, these are document collections, swift transfer and document credits. for criteria the author decided in four qualities ,theses are preparation time,execution time, cost and fraud.
For analysis matlab and excel was used to compute for the various calculations.

Výuka výslovnosti žákům s dyslexií

Tato práce se zabývá principy výuky rytmu žákům s dyslexií. Tyto principy jsou posléze použity v praxi. V praktické části práce je nejprve popsán rytmus a jeho význam je poté vyložen ve vztahu ke komunikační kompetenci. Diskuze na téma jestli by se rytmus měl vyučovat je předmětem další kapitoly. Následně je definována porucha učení, dyslexie, a její symptomy jsou popsány a vztaženy ke specifickým podmínkám učení se angličtiny jako cizího jazyka. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována způsobům výuky rytmu žákům angličtiny jako cizího jazyka s dyslexií. Problematika je doplněna o kapitolu o tvorbě jazykového kurzu. V praktické části práce se autorka pokouší navrhnout, zrealizovat a zreflektovat kurz rytmu pro žáky angličtiny jako cizího jazyka s dyslexií. Výsledky výzkumu jsou hodnoceny v závislosti na dosažení cíle kurzu žáky s dyslexií a vzhledem k jejich zpětným vazbám. Na závěr jsou zkušenosti z praktické části porovnány s východisky z teoretické části a další modifikace jsou navrženy.

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou juxtapozice rozumu a víry v románech Grahama Greena The Power and the Glory (1940), The Heart of the Matter (1948), The Honorary Consul (1973) a krátké povídce "The Hint of an Explanation" (1954). Cílem práce je objasnit podstatu autorova přístupu ke vztahu víry a logického myšlení. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována Greenově životu a politicko-historickým okolnostem, které značnou měrou ovlivnily autorovu tvorbu. Za účelem osvětlení některých filosofických principů vztahu víry a rozumu si teoretická část klade za cíl poskytnout vysvětlení na základě prací myslitelů Sorena Kierkegaarda, Friedricha Nietzsche a Karla Marxe. V praktické části je otázka rozumu a víry analyzována z perspektivy ateismu a náboženskosti, pochybností a svědomí, dogmatu, materialismu a spirituality.
