Recyklace solárních fotovoltaických panelů
Šperlich, Antonín
2023 - Czech
Long-term trends show an increasing installed capacity of solar photovoltaic power plants. However, this is also associated with a large production of discarded panels. It is estimated that by 2050 there will be between 60 and 80 million tonnes of waste panels worldwide. Such large amounts of waste can be an \ninteresting source of valuable materials, but also need to be recycled for environmental reasons. The aim of this paper is to describe the possibilities of recycling panels and using them to build a real recycling line. Detailed Investigation of Human Galectins -1 and -3 by employing selectively deoxyfluorinated N-acetyllactosamines
Kurfiřt, Martin
2023 - English
This work is focused on a detailed investigation of supramolecular recognition events between human galectins -1 and -3 and monodeoxyfluorinated N-acetyllactosamine probes, which were previously prepared in our laboratory. The recognition was studied using a combination of X-ray crystallography, isothermal titration calorimetry and several advanced NMR techniques, such as 19F T2-filter, 1H–1H STD, 1H–15N CSP or 19F EXSY. These techniques provided insight into the thermodynamics and kinetics of recognition and enabled us to uncover of subtle differences between both investigated galectins. Such differences could be potentially exploited in the selective targeting of individual galectins with important implications for the galectins-focused\npharmaceutic industry. 2023 - Czech
Five in situ campaigns focused on aerosol-cloud interactions were conducted at Mount Milešovka in the Czech Republic to gain more insight into aerosol activation and its dependence on meteorological parameters, mainly vertical air velocity and position within the cloud. The activated fraction was calculated from the difference of concentrations measured behind the whole air inlet and the PM2.5 inlet. The liquid water content (LWC) was calculated from visibility, cloud base position was estimated from ceilometer data. Vertical air velocity was estimated from cloud radar. No strong dependence was found between visibility and vertical velocity, suggesting that the clouds at the station are mostly of advection or inversion origin. Both visibility and LWC depend on the position within the cloud, with the highest LWC values found when the station was between 100 and 400 m above the cloud base, independently of the actual value. 2022 - Czech
In 2020, the EU adopted new Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), the principles of which must be implemented into the legislation of each Member State. The main goal of CEAP is to maximize the recycling of all types of usable waste, including textile waste, where its sorting will be mandatory from the year 2025. In the Czech Republic, a new waste treatment law based on the CEAP appeared in the year 2021. The new waste treatment law determines\nimportant changes to existing collection and treatment methods of textile waste. Mathematical Modeling of Heat and Mass Transfer in a Rotary Kiln
Kozakovič, M.; Čada, J.; Kokavcová, A.; Havlica, Jaromír; Huchet, F.
2022 - English
The main objective of this research was to compare the results of the proposed 1D transport model with numerical simulations of mass transport in a direct-heat rotary kiln at laboratory scale. Another objective was to investigate the effect of the number of flights on the formation of an active particle surface in the airborne phase, which enables efficient heat transport. The studied rotary kiln is a low-angle cylinder with a length of 0.5 meter and a diameter of 0.108 meter with regularly arranged flights on the inside. The heat is transported into the rotary kiln by hot air at the inlet. The load in the rotary kiln consists of spherical particles with 1 millimeter diameter. The rotary kiln rotation speed is 21.5 rpm. For each simulation, 20 rotations were performed. The Discrete Element Method implemented in an open-source code LIGGGHTS was used for simulations.Efficient heat transfer is made possible primarily by the large number of particles in the airborne phase, which are heated by the warm air blowing in. To begin with, the number of flights and their geometry were found to be a key parameter controlling the amount of particles in the gaseous regime. It was also found that an area in the right part of the base of the cylinder is formed which is not reached by particles from the flights. This phenomenon is due to the dynamics of particle transport, as the particles are not maintained in the active phase and move rapidly towards the load due to gravity. In conclusion, the effect of this zone is negative, as hot air flows through it without resistance, preventing the system from heating effectively. Biochary - účinné sorbenty pro odstranění polutantů.

2022 - Czech
The growing amount of contaminants in the water has been a serious problem. Sorption is one of the effective methods for removal of various contaminants, such as drugs, detergents, or microplastics. Various sorbents are applied, whether commercial or laboratory prepared, as zeolites, bentonites, activated carbon and, more recently, various types of biochar, which are prepared by pyrolysis from variety of biomass residues. Their surface varies according to the preparation conditions (max SBET around 300 m2 / g) and there are tested under various conditions on variety of contaminants. Comparative studies of different types of biochar are rather lacking, similarly as their comparisons with commercial sorbents such as activated carbon.\nFor these reasons, this study aims to compare the sorption properties of three biochars prepared from different types of plant biomass (sunflower husks, seaweed Ecklonia Maxima and freshwater microalgae Chlorella Vulgaris), whose sorption properties were compared with commercial activated carbon, Supersorbon. The effectiveness of sorbents has been tested on diclofenac (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic drug) whose consumption is enormous worldwide and it is commonly found in water, owing to that most wastewater treatment plants do not capture it. All sorbents showed considerable efficiency, with the best results being obtained using a biochar prepared from freshwater microalgae (95%). Its high effectiveness has been verified in removing the contaminant triclosan (antibacterial and antifungal disinfectant). The concentration of contaminants (1 ppm) was chosen for testing, which corresponds to the concentrations commonly found in wastewater. Based on the result, it was found that all prepared sorbents are comparable effective with activated carbon, however, their preparation is more economically advantageous, because the price of activated carbon increases the need for subsequent activation. \n\n Keywords: biochar; diclofenac; contaminants Available in a digital repository NRGL

What happens to microplastics in nature
Spáčilová, Markéta
2022 - English
This work was focused on preparation of microplastic particles which correspond to microplastics in the environment. The five most used plastics (polyethylene, polyamide, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene glycol terephthalate, and polystyrene) were used for preparation. Microplastics were prepared by grinding common used plastics to match the actual microplastics present in the environment as closely as possible. The shape and size of the prepared particles\nwere obtained by scanning electron microscopy. Raman and infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the microplastic structures. Simultaneously, methodology to determine the amount of microplastic particles in simulated water samples was developed.
