„Á - - mladý pán už vstal!” Motivy flámu a časové disciplinace v díle Františka Gellnera
Kořínková, Lucie
2019 - Czech
This article deals with the motifs of time management discipline and transgressions against it in the literary and artistic work of František Gellner. In works from his youth we very often come across the motifs of the drinking spree, sleeping off a drinking spree and ''immoral'' time management. This motif is associated here with the general need of the author to define himself in relation to middle class orderliness and its banality, while almost always raising questions regarding moral transgressions and the long-term unsustainability of rebellious youth attitudes. The study concludes by considering the changing face of this motif in the final period of Gellner's work, when he was working at Lidové noviny in Brno. This stage in Gellner's life not only provided him with a well-established middle-class existence in the form of regular employment for a newspaper editorial office, but also meant that this newspaper work of his often had a distinctly idyllic tone when dealing with the same middle-class orderliness and regularity. „Čechové budou žíti, dlouho žíti, pro spásu svou a spásu Slavie.” Proroctví v kultuře českého osvícenství a romantismu
Futtera, Ladislav
2019 - Czech
This article follows the development of the genre of prophecy on the Czech (in the provincial sense) scene from the mid-18th century to the mid-19th century with the stress on the modification of this traditional genre of spiritual literature within the context of the Enlightenment and Romanticism. After the middle of the century, the prophecy genre gradually emerged from its exclusively spiritual contexts and despite the dismissive attitude of some enlightenment adherents, it became an instrument for the education of subjects in the spirit of enlightened paternalism or Josephinism. Its development throughout the 19th century is then reflected in the emergence of provincial patriotism and its gradual suppression by ethnic nationalism. Both these discourses made use of the potential of prophecies referring to the Czech lands as a narrative that anchored the national community between the past, the present and the future. The greatest potential was offered by prophecy referring to Vyšehrad and Princess Libuše, who was portrayed from the end of the 18th century as a (semi-)mythical guarantor of the continuity of Czech statehood. The second key text is the Blaník prophecy, but when this became part of the Czech national discourse, its adherents underwent a transformation. The authority of the prophet, the Sibyll and the Blind Youth gradually give way to the authority of historical figures, Saint Václav and the Hussites, who were associated with prophecy, accompanying it with the constitutive Czech historical narrative. Jakub Deml a T. G. Masaryk ve dvou pramenech
Podaná, Barbora
2018 - Czech
Příspěvek informuje o dvou pramenech k poznání vztahu Jakuba Demla a T. G. Masaryka. The contribution describes two sources that can deepen our understanding of the relationship between Jakub Deml and T. G. Masaryk. The first consists of an official file on the legal prosecution of Jakub Deml located in the archive of the President’s Office: the file contains not just court documents from the 1930 court trial of Jakub Deml but also the President’s approval of the prosecution, a transcript of a phone call by Karel Čapek, a further testimony on Březina’s remarks, a ministry of Justice application for presidential pardon and other documents underlying the President’s change of mind and his ultimate decision to stop the prosecution. The second source of information comprises nine books by Deml (which contain seven handwritten dedications to Masaryk from the years 1927–1935) and a single book dedicated to President Edvard Beneš in 1938. These sources are to be found in the as yet uncatalogued depositions in the library of T. G. Masaryk. Keywords: Deml, Jakub; Masaryk, T. Mučedníci ticha
Čiháková, Barbora
2018 - Czech
This contribution builds on Jan lopatka’s thesis that there is a connection between Jakub Deml and Jan Hanč. It describes various resonances between the respective poetics of the two authors and also reflects on their differing approaches and assumptions, which to some extent can be traced back to differences in historical context. In conclusion the study points out that the authors’ respective works are essentially guided by the same principle of composition, namely the idea of being engaged in writing a single, continuous and unified book. Keywords: Hanč, Jan; Deml, Jakub; Events; correspondence; tradition; dialogue; one book Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Příklad a pohoršení: K ohlasu Demlova Svědectví o Otokaru Březinovi
Davidová, Eliška
2018 - Czech
Deml’s most comprehensive book, My Testimony About Otokar Březina (1931), provoked a wave of outrage in the Czechoslovakian press on publication. This contribution examines a sample of ten different texts written at the time and on this basis outlines the main narratives adopted by the participants in the debate as well as their motivations, methods of argumentation and, finally, the key topics discussed. It determines the central motif in the debate to be the image of a dead poet which represented a key element in the mythology of the recently founded republic. Jediná kniha Jakuba Demla, Bedřicha Fučíka a Vladimíra Binara
Iwashita, Daniela
2018 - Czech
Dále stať vyjmenovává řemeslné parametry a postupy editorů Díla, které platí i pro dnešní editory: podrobné zmapování autorových redakčních, edičních a nakladatelských postupů, sledování a preference autorské vůle, uspořádání a zpřístupnění bibliografie (včetně časopisecké), co nejširší poznání dostupných rukopisů a korespondence (dnes zejména uspořádání a popis části Demlova fondu v LA PNP s tisíci stran navzájem pomíchaných rukopisů knih včetně Zapomenutého světla), zmapování Demlových nakladatelských textů a letáků, vysvětlení zvolených edičních a pořádajících postupů, zveřejnění podrobného rozvrhu spisů a vystavení se kritické oponentuře. Autorka v závěru navrhuje budoucí ediční řešení: hybridní edici, která by sestávala paralelně jednak z elektronické kritické edice včetně archivu všech verzí a nástrojů pro jejich porovnání a jednak z čtenářského knižního vydání díla, jež by textově vyšlo z kritické edice a uspořádáním – při výrazném doplnění – by zhruba sledovalo principy a rozvržení samizdatového Díla. This contribution reviews, and reflects on, the idea of a single, unified book and other metaphors of holistic work (the work as a tree, the Tasov landscape, the Oslava river) which constantly recur in Deml’s writings: what can they mean for the reader and the editors of his work today? The contributor focuses on a solution worked out and justified by Bedřich Fučík and Vladimír Binar in the samizdat edition of The Work of Jakub Deml (13 volumes, VBF Manuscripts, Prague 1978–1983) and in the accompanying Report on the Compilation of the Work of Jakub Deml (VBF Manuscripts, Prague 1981). The contributor reviews the well-known shortcomings of The Work, especially its reduction of a number of texts, but notes with approval its organizing principles which correspond to Deml’s own approach to writing and publication: such as the pursuit of cyclical chronology; the recognition of the central, recurrent books; the organization of individual volumes along generic lines; the readerly and artistic character of the books. The contribution goes on to identify the editorial measures and procedures established by The Work editors which are equally valid for us today: such as the need for detailed mapping of Deml’s editorial and publishing practices; the need to respect and privilege the author’s will; the need for compilation and publication of all bibliography (including contributions to journals and magazines); the need for the widest possible research into extant manuscripts and correspondence (today this applies above all to the ordering and detailed description of a part of Deml’s writings deposited in the Literary Archive of The Museum of Czech Literature in Prague, which comprises thousands of mixed-up pages from manuscripts of various books, including Forgotten Light); further, the need for mapping Deml’s publishing notices and leaflets; the publication of a detailed schedule of all his writings, and, last but not least, the willingness to accept external review and criticism. In conclusion the contributor proposes a solution for the future: the publication of a hybrid edition which would consist of an electronic critical edition (including an archive of all extant versions together with instruments for their comparison) in parallel with a readerly publication of Deml’s work in book format which would be based on texts in the critical edition and organized roughly in accordance with the principles and overall conception of Fučík’s and Binar’s samizdat Work, even if significantly extended. Jakub Deml ve vzpomínkách Josefa Jelena
Burget, Eduard
2018 - Czech
In 1998 the Catholic priest, poet and journalist Josef Jelen published his memoir Jeden z prokletých (One of the Damned) in an attempt to justify his position and views in the years of the so-called normalization. In the memoir Jelen tends to emphasize his friendships with a number of influential writers: the most important of them would have been Jakub Deml whom Jelen continued to visit in Tasov into the 1950s. at the beginning of the 1960s Jelen resigned from the priesthood and shortly afterwards became a secret collaborator of the Communist State Security.
