Optické přístroje v literatuře kolem roku 1800
Smyčka, Václav
2018 - Czech
Studie zkoumá vztah mezi literaturou a optickými médii (zograskop, kukátko a laterna magika) na sklonku 18. a v první polovině 19. století, tedy před nástupem fotografie a filmu. Vychází z tezí mediálního teoretika Friedricha Kittlera o vzájemném prolínání a vymezování se literární imaginace, optických aparátů a antropologických představ o lidské obrazotvornosti. Tyto vztahy zkoumá na dílech české a německy psané literatury z Čech dané doby, přičemž největší pozornost věnuje textům Christiana Heinricha Spieße a roli laterny magiky v nich. The study examines the relationship between literature and optical media (zograscopes, peepshows and magic laterns) in the late 18th century and the first half of the 19th century, in other words before the advent of photography and film. It is based on the theses of the media theorist Friedrich Kittler about the mutual overlap and delimitation between literary imagination, optical devices and anthropological ideas about human fantasy. It examines these relationships in the works of literature writen in Czech and German in the czech lands during this period, focusing in particular on texts by Christian Heinrich Spiess and his role played in them by the magic latern. An analysis of Spiess´ works and examples from other 19th - century Czech and Czech-German authorsshows, that from the end of the 18th century the magic latern became not only a frequent literyry motif, but also a model though which these authors understood the functioning of the human imagination as such. It appears that in Spiess´ thought the pathological state of phantasy is relatedto the normal functioneng of the imagination in the same way as a defect in the projection apparatus is related to its normal operation. However, the magic latern also functions in Spiess´ oevre as a poetological programme. Spiess sees his own writing as criticism of the work of the optical media, but at the same time develops their specific poeticism and attempts to compensate it for it. He also disseminates imagination through multiple intermedial references, ans it thus seemingly trans-medial relationships between literature and optical media well before the announcement of the end of the Gutenberg galaxy. Vodník, 'kníže smrti a temnosti'
Šidák, Pavel
2018 - Czech
Studie ukazuje vztah démonického světa ke kategoriím 'temna' a 'světla'. The study shows the relationship between the demonic world and the categories 'darkness' and 'light'. As a representative of the demonic world the water spirit has been chosen, a figure that is firmly rooted in the Czech mythological system and is in many respects a specific one. The intuitive connection between the demonic world and the area of 'darkness' is demonstrated, but at the same time this connection is exposed as a retrospective interpretation of the world of Christian thought and is qualified by the ability of demonic figures, as portrayed in art, to participate in both the 'dark' and the 'light' chronotope. The true “darkness” of this figure, thanks to which the water spirit and the demonic world in general are still attractive themes for art today, is to be seen in the fact that it is not human, not recognisable, and cannot be grasped. Válkou k objevům. Denonova cesta za uměním
Hrbata, Zdeněk
2017 - Czech
Analýza knihy Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte Vivanta Denona, člena Napoleonovy vojenské expedice do Egypta, a jejích různých diskurzivních rovin, které tvoří a) kronika vojenské kampaně a zároveň deníkový cestopis, b) objevování a dokumentarizace egyptských památek, c) ohlasy preromantických estetik (estetika vznešena a přírody, poetika ruin). This paper analyses the key discourse levels in Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte, a book by Vivant Denon, a member of the society of scholars and artists that accompanied Napoleon’s military expedition to Egypt. From May 1798 to October 1799 Denon wrote a chronologically incomplete chronicle of the Egyptian campaign, including battles, encounters, pursuits, the horrors of war and the extreme conditions, a chronicle that is concurrently a travelogue journal with the customary topics (inhabitants, mores and customs) and an epic structure (the voyage, obstacles, wanderings and struggles). Moreover, as the author looks around ebes, Luxor, Denderah (Tyntiris) and Aswan, he colourfully and enthusiastically relates the discovery of Egypt, carefully describing and tirelessly drawing. The variety of discourses in Denon’s Travels (e.g. the discourse of war and its heroization, as well as its cruel aspect; the discourse of discoveries and emerging Egyptology; travelogue discourse) gradually takes on the form of the rivalry and conflict of different times. Keywords: war; discovery; art Available at various institutes of the ASCR

The author analyses the prose work Morana čili Svět a jeho nicoty (Morana or The World and its Nothingness) which Karel Sabina published in 1874 under the pseudonym Arian Želinský, as an expression of his personal, philosophical and above all literary reaction to the “national court”, which unmasked him as a police agent and turned him into an excommunicated “traitor to the nation”. The objective here is to establish the manner in which Sabina reflected his private fall from grace in his literary testimony, working inter alia with the flood motif, which was inspired by the disastrous floods of May 1872, i.e. the way he reflected his internal discord in the external form of a conventional serialized pulp novel with an aristocratic setting, with mordant dialogue between various life truths. Keywords: Czech literature; 19th century; serialized pulp novel; Sabina, Karel; postmodern prose; national court; 1872 flood; literary irony Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Mor, masakr, Maria: Protižidovské aspekty pozdně středověké zbožnosti
Soukup, Daniel
2017 - Czech
Takzvaná morová perzekuce z let 1348 až 1350 zasáhla velkou většinu židovských komunit v říši, které byly obviněny z otrávení studen. Přestože byli Židé v Čechách a na Moravě od těchto násilných útoků ušetřeni, česká středověká literatura odrážela současné události a úzkost. Atmosféru vytvořenou ohromnou hrozbou Černé smrti spolu s ekonomickými i politickými důvody formovaly i specifické aspekty pozdně středověké zbožnosti - vášeň a mariánská oddanost, kterou upřednostňoval samotný císař Karel IV. Příspěvek se zaměřuje na mimetickou vášnivou zbožnost, částečně reprezentovanou bičíkem a oficiálně vyjádřenou oddanou literaturou, a její vliv na protižidovskou rétoriku a násilí. Analýza lidových modliteb, básní a nářků Panny Marie (planctus Marie), nejmocnějších a emotivních textů duchovního ospravedlnění podle vzoru soucitného diváctví, představuje ty protižidovské aspekty, které by mohly vydláždit cestu fyzické agresi proti židovské komunitě. Kromě kontemplativní literatury mohly nadčasové a univerzální mariánské příběhy odrážet skutečné masakry a legitimizované protižidovské násilí. The so-called Plague persecutions from 1348 to 1350 affected a large majority of the Jewish communities in the Empire, who were accused of poisoning the wells. Though the Jews in Bohemia and Moravia were spared from these violent attacks, Czech medieval literature was mirroring contemporary events and anxiety. Along with economical as well as political reasons, the atmosphere created by the overwhelming threat of the Black Death was also shaped by specific aspects of late medieval piety - passion and Marian devotion, favoured by Emperor Charles IV himself. The paper focuses on mimetic passion piety, partly represented by the flagellant movement and officially expressed by devotional literature, and its influence on anti-Jewish rhetoric and violence. Analysis of vernacular prayers, poems and laments of the Virgin Mary (planctus Marie), the most powerful and emotional texts of spiritual edification modelled by the compassionate spectatorship, presents those anti-Jewish aspects which could pave the way for physical aggression against the Jewish community. Besides contemplative literature, timeless and universal Marian tales could echo actual massacres and legitimized anti-Jewish violence. This may be the case of a Bohemian version of the Marian miracle De Imagine S. Mariae in Lidda, preserved in the 14th century manuscript Liber depictus, which formulates the maxims of medieval society against the background of hagiographies that were updated for that time. Nebeský klid. Role světecké intervence ve staročeské rytířské epice
Jaluška, Matouš
2017 - Czech
To má podobu dobrodružné cesty do Svaté země, kde se nakonec Arnoštovi spolu s družinou lidských monster podaří porazit babylonského krále ohrožujícího místní křesťanské krále. The essay inspired by the Spatial and Religious Turns in contemporary humanities explores the role of space and safety in two Old Czech heroic romances adapted from Middle High German sources, Tristram a Izalda and Vévoda Arnošt. The Tristram story starts with a report about King Mark’s mili-tary campaign against the Slavs. It was during this conflict that Tristram’s parents got to know each other, the hero himself is, therefore, a product of an aggression against the listeners’ or readers’ homeland. The inevitable tragic end of the story looses a part of its grimness, because the public is aware of the connection between Tristram and the war. With Tristram’s death, the danger evapo-rated and the peace seemed to be restored. The benign closure is further secured by a new mo-nastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary, where the graves of Tristram and Izalda lie and where the former king Mark starts a new monastic career. Arnošt began his quest as a successful young nobleman whose widowed mother became a spouse of the Emperor. The jealousy of the Em-peror’s blood kin eventually drove Arnošt to vengeful murder after which he had to leave the country. After many adventures he finally arrived in the Holy Land, where he and his retinue of kobolds, giants and other humanoid creatures decisively defeated the King of Babylon and restored Christian dominance in the area. The story of Arnošt is inserted between two miracle-producing graves of mighty women, Empress Diana and Saint Ryngata, but the presence of a saint in this case did not facilitate the entombment of a difficult situation. Rather, it reminds the Christian reader about the ever available power of prayer and subsequent saintly intervention into this world. From this angle, Arnošt emerged as an especially powerful praying subject thanks to his unshakable de-meanor. Such slight adjustments of the Czech stories in comparison with their German counterpart lead to a palpable ΄sermonisation΄ of the material and can help us better assess the role played by the corpus of Old Czech chivalric poetry, in the milieu of the ΄Waning of the Middle Ages΄and gene-ral unrest of the 15th century. Keywords: Old Czech Chivalric Poetry; heroic romances; Tristram a Izalda; religious turn; spatial turn; miracles; Virgin Mary Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Otazníky kolem druhého vydání Husovy Postily z roku 1564
Pišna, Jan
2017 - Czech
Příspěvek se věnuje typografickému popisu anonymního tisku Postily Jana Husa z roku 1564. Protože dosud není badatelsky zpracován typografický materiál jednak norimberské tiskárny Johanna von Berga (Montanus) a Ulricha Neubera, v níž vznikla edice Husovy Postily v roce 1563, jednak dosud nedisponujeme obdobným badatelským zpracováním podstatné většiny tiskařů činných v druhé polovině 16. století na českých zemích, nelze zatím určit, v jaké tiskárně anonymně vydaná edice vznikla. The article focuses on a typographic description of the anonymous print of John Hus’ Postil from 1564. In view of the fact that the typographic material provided by the Nürnberg printing house of Johann von Berg (Montaus) and Ulrich Neuber, where Hus’ Postil was printed in 1563, has so far escaped scholarly attention and the fact that no similar scholarly description of the majority of the printers active in the second half of the 16th century has yet been available, it cannot be stated with certainty where this anonymously printed edition originated. The edition has not been explored only from the point of view of its typography, used script, initials, decoration and illustrations but the author also tackles the following questions: why was the edition printed anonymously and why does the editorial concept differ from the Nürnberg edition from 1563. Keywords: John Hus; anonymous edition; Nürnberg; Czech printers; typography; 2nd half of the 16th century Available at various institutes of the ASCR
