2008 - English The subject of the paper is the Czech cultural landscapes and icons perceived as bearing national/cultural significance to English-speaking nations: the tourism industry perspectives (with a special regard to the South Bohemia region). The paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter presents certain ties between culture and history of the Czech lands and the English-speaking countries and briefly lists those individuals in history and/or culture who could be considered as such ties, followed by reflections on the importance of tourism for the national economy and the economy of the South Bohemia region. It includes also the results of research performed in guidebooks in relation to the cultural landscapes and icons perceived as bearing national/cultural significance to English-speaking nations. The next chapter describes some sub-regions of South Bohemia that feature cultural or historical ties between the Czech lands and the English-speaking countries. The last chapter recommends certain places as an offer for specific groups of visitors, as well as an example of possible use in a web presentation/tourism information database Tématem bakalářské práce je {\clqq}Využití styčných bodů kultury a historie Česka a anglickojazyčného světa v oblasti cestovního ruchu (se zvláštním zřetelem k možnostem Jihočeského kraje)``. Práce je rozdělena do pěti kapitol. První kapitola se zabývá styčnými body kultury a historie Česka a anglickojazyčných zemí a uvádí stručný výčet osobností, které takové styčné body mohou představovat. Následuje úvaha o významu cestovního ruchu pro národní hospodářství i pro ekonomiku Jihočeského kraje a rešerše nejznámějších průvodců po České republice. V další kapitole jsou uvedeny vybrané subregiony Jihočeského kraje, které mají vazby na anglickojazyčný svět. V poslední kapitole uvádíme vybraná místa v Jihočeském kraji jako doporučenou nabídku pro určité skupiny návštěvníků i jako možnou formu využití např. v rámci webové prezentace. 2013 - English This bachelor thesis deals with selected supernatural creatures of Harry Potter?s series. It is primarily focused on a dragon, basilisk, phoenix, unicorn, merpeople, werewolf, giant and wizard. Each of these creatures is depicted from author?s point of view at first, then it is compared with its original depiction and finally it draws a comparison between itself and its fairy tale?s portrayal. The emphasis is put on comprehension of the chosen creature?s main meaning, its role and functioning through the story. The aim of this thesis is to find identical elements or alternatively to show differences of inspirational sources. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vybranými nadpřirozenými bytostmi z příběhů o Harry Potterovi. Jedná se o draka, baziliška, fénixe, jednorožce, vodní lid, vlkodlaka, obra a čaroděje. Každá z těchto bytostí je nejprve popsána z pohledu autorky, poté je srovnávána se svou mytologickou předlohou a na závěr je porovnávána se stejnou bytostí z pohádky nebo z fantasy příběhu. Důraz je kladen na pochopení hlavního významu vybrané bytosti, její funkci a fungování v příběhu. Cílem práce je určit shodné prvky, případně poukázat na rozdíly inspiračních zdrojů. 2013 - English The bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of the environment in the novels of the significant contemporary British prose writer Ian McEwan, primarily it focuses on his works The Cement Garden, The Comfort of Strangers, and Amsterdam. Through the interpretation of the primary texts, the work attempts to capture the symbolic image of the postmodern world in the environment of a European city in contrast to the closed world of the house from McEwan´s first novel. Práce se zaměří na analýzu prostředí románů významného současného britského prozaika Iana McEwana, především na jeho díla Betonová zahrada (The Cement Garden), Cizinci ve městě (The Comfort of Strangers) a Amsterdam. Prostřednictvím interpretace primárních textů se práce pokusí vystihnout symbolický obraz postmoderního světa v prostředí evropského velkoměsta v kontrastu s uzavřeným světem domu z prvního McEwanova románu. The main focus will be on the change of their life caused by destruction of their natural environment. The author will compare their lfestyles before and after the European settlers´s invasion of the Prairies. The comparison will focus on the near extinction of the buffalo, their main nutrition source, the loss of their lands, and on the reduction of their numbers. "Lost in Interpretation" - Redundancy and Forward Inferencing in Simultaneous Interpreting (SI)

2018 - English The bachelor's thesis focuses on the process of simultaneous interpreting (SI). It addresses the issues an interpreter has to tackle in order to transfer the message from the source language to the target language accurately. It specifically examines omissions and inclusions made by the interpreter and the impact these may have on the communication at hand. The departure point for my thesis is the work of Chernov (1994) in particular, his concept of redundancy as a key factor in SI comprehension as well as his emphasis on the psychological process of 'probability' anticipation (forward inferencing). I collected and analysed a set of interpreted texts in order to demonstrate the applicability of Chernov's theory to simultaneous interpretation from English to Czech. A number of practicing interpreters was interviewed in order to triangulate my analysis against their perspectives and experience in the field. Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na průběh simultánního tlumočení (SI). Zabývá se vším, s čím se musí tlumočník potýkat, aby byl schopen zprávu věrně převést z jednoho jazyka do druhého. Konkrétně zkoumá, co tlumočník při tlumočení vynechá nebo naopak přidá a jaký okamžitý dopad by tento proces mohl na sdělení mít. Výchozím bodem mé bakalářské práce je dílo Chernova (1994) a jeho zdůraznění problematiky nadbytečnosti jako klíčového prvku jak v porozumění simultánního tlumočení, tak i v jeho zaměření na psychologický proces předvídání "pravděpodobnosti" následného sdělení (prognózování). Nashromáždila jsem a provedla analýzu několika přetlumočených textů, na kterých jsem se snažila ověřit, zdali se dá Chernova teorie aplikovat na simultánní tlumočení z angličtiny do češtiny. Následně jsem udělala rozhovor s několika tlumočníky s praxí, abych svojí analýzu obohatila o jejich úhel pohledu na problematiku a o jejich zkušenosti v oboru. Symbolism in Joyce's "Dubliners"

2016 - English This thesis analyses symbolism in Dubliners written by the influential Irish writer James Joyce. The introduction of the thesis focuses on Joyce's reception in Ireland, and his life and work. Furthermore we pay particular attention to the publishing and structure of Dubliners. The core of this thesis is to examine the symbolism in the following short stories: An Encounter, The Boarding House, A Painful Case, A Mother, The Dead. These stories were selected as the representations of the four imaginary sections in Dubliners: childhood, adolescence, maturity, public life. The Dead is a section of its own, and serves as an epilogue to the short story collection. It will be in and through the analysis of symbols that various interpretations of the stories will be explored. Tato bakalářská práce se soustředí na rozbor symbolů v knize Dubliňané, napsané významným irským spisovatelem Jamesem Joycem. V úvodu se zaměřuji na přijetí Joyce v Irsku, a na jeho život a dílo. Dále věnuji pozornost vydání a struktuře knihy. Jádrem této bakalářské práce je však rozbor symbolů v těchto následujících povídkách: Střetnutí, Penzion, Trapný případ, Matka, Nebožtíci. Tyto povídky jsem vybrala jako představitele čtyř pomyslných sekcí v Dubliňanech: dětství, dospívání, dospělost, veřejný život. Nebožtíci je sekce sama o sobě a v této sbírce povídek působí spíše jako doslov. Rozbor symbolů zároveň poskytuje důkladný výklad a interpretaci povídek.
