Factors affecting the occurrence of aquatic macrophytes in the Lipno reservoir
KROLOVÁ, Monika
2013 - Czech
This RNDr. thesis focuses on the species composition and cover in the littoral of the Lipno Reservoir in 2006. Aquatic macrophytes are an essential component of littoral communities in lakes. Their reasonable development positively affects biodiversity and stability of the aquatic ecosystems and water quality. The aim of this study was to characterise the development of littoral macrophytes in Lipno Reservoir, an artificial lake with seasonal water level fluctuation, and highlight controlling factors for macrophyte occurrence. The development of macrophytes was examined at 114 segments of the shoreline, each 50 m long, situated along the whole reservoir perimeter in regular 1km distances. The segments were surveyed for phytocenology, shore morphology, pedological characteristics of substrate, and anthropogenic impact. The survey identified 53 macrophyte species (24 hydrophilic terrestrial, 17 emergent,1 floating-leaved, 2 free-floating, 4 submersed, and 5 amphibious). The average vegetation cover of the examined segments was 14 %, with approximately one third of the segments without any macrophytes and another third with vegetation cover less than 10 %. Macrophytes occurred only in the uppermost eulittoral zone down to the level of 75 % probability of water surface exceedance. On the basis of a correlation analysis, the major factors affecting macrophyte occurrence in the littoral zone were shore morphology, light conditions in water and erosion effect of waves that together with water level fluctuation caused loss of fine particles from and degradation of the substrate in the littoral zone.

"DNA" barcoding is of limited value for identifying adelgids (Hemiptera: Adelgidae) but supports traditional morphological taxonomy
VĚCHTOVÁ, Pavlína
2011 - Czech
The presented study deals with adelgids (Hemiptera: Adelgidae) identification based on the sequence divergence of part of mitochondrial cytochrome ?c oxidase I (COI) gene used for ?DNA barcoding?. Analysis evaluates the DNA barcoding ability to discriminate adelgids on the genera level and it supports species identification based on morphological taxonomy. However, it failed to recognize species within species complexes.

Genetic analysis of dicyemid infrapopulations suggests sexual reproduction and host colonization by multiple individuals is common
FLEGROVÁ, Tereza
2022 - Czech
This study explores the infrapopulation structure of Dicyema moschatum in its host Eledone moschata with the use of microsatellite markers. In order to assess the infrapopulation diversity, set of eight microsatellite markers was selected and respective oligonucleotides were designed for this population genetics study. Fragmentation method was used to analyze various microsatellite markers and the results were analyzed in bioinformatic programs that focus on standard population genetic metrics. Obtained results proved to provide new information about D. moschatum mating system and infection strategy.

Ravens respond to unfamiliar corvid alarm calls
DAVÍDKOVÁ, Marika
2022 - Czech
The following work encompasses a research in the behaviour of the common raven (Corvus corax). I tested the responses of the common raven to heterospecific alarm calls of various bird species that differ in familiarity and taxonomical relatedness to ravens. Two other corvid species (jays) and two non-corvids (gulls) were presented. The ravens were given stimuli from one jay and one gull - one of which was always familiar to the tested ravens (European) and one unfamiliar (American). The results suggest that familiarity is not as important as the membership to the Corvidae family.
