The development in the Czech lands after the White Mountain Battle brought great confusion not only to the lives of a large part of the non-Catholic citizens, but also to their libraries. Book collections built up over the years became objects of confiscation, sale, theft and plunder. Intellectuals were only able to take a small part with them into exile. One of the foreign libraries in which volumes from the property of Czech exiles have been preserved is the library of the Church of Our Lady in Pirna, Saxony. A large part of the local bohemica was purchased by the National Library in the last century, but another part (mainly books of Czech provenance) remains in the historical repository next to the church cure. We have tried to map the provenance of bohemica from both the Prague and Pirna parts and to capture traces of book collections of exiles and other important personalities. The paper includes inventories of the prints and provenances of both parts. Pobělohorský vývoj v českých zemích vnesl velký zmatek nejen do životů velké části nekatolických věřících, ale také do jejich knihoven. Po léta budované knižní celky se staly se obětí konfiskací, rozprodávání, krádeží i plenění. Jen malou část si intelektuálové mohli vzít s sebou do exilu. Jednou ze zahraničních knihoven, v níž se svazky z majetku českých exulantů zachovaly, je knihovna kostela Panny Marie v Pirně. Velkou část tamních bohemik zakoupila v minulém století Národní knihovna, další část bohemik (zejména provenienčních) zůstala ale dodnes v prostorách vedle kostelního kúru. Pokusili jsme se o zmapování provenience bohemik z pražské i pirenské části a zachycení stop knižních celků exulantů i dalších významných osobností. Součástí příspěvku jsou soupisy tisků a proveniencí obou částí.

The author recalls the dismal state of research on Baroque culture and Bohuslav Balbín in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 1980s and gives an overview of the papers and speakers at the Balbín conference 1988 held on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Balbín’s death. Autor připomíná neutěšený stav bádání o barokní kultuře a o Bohuslavu Balbínovi v Československu v 70. a 80. letech 20. století a podává přehled příspěvků a referujících na balbínovské konferenci konané v r. 1988 při příležitosti 300. výročí Balbínova úmrtí.

Ars nova eloquentiae, its followers and Bohuslaus Balbinus

The paper focuses on the penetration of a new literary aesthetics, the so-called new art of eloquence (nova ars eloquentiae) into literature in the Bohemian lands in the 17th century. The Jesuit teacher of Latin style and literature, Bohuslav Balbín, was the first in the Czech lands to reflect the changed literary situation in his literary theoretical writings and to appreciate the appropriate followers of the art of elocution. At the same time, however, he was a classicist and a follower of M. Tulius Cicero, who warned against the excessive and inappropriate use of the wit.\n Příspěvek se věnuje pronikání nové literární estetiky, tzv. nového umění elokvence (nova ars eloquentiae) do literatury v českých zemích 17. století. Jezuitský učitel latinského stylu a literatury Bohuslav Balbín byl prvním v českých zemích, kdo ve svých literárně teoretických spisech reflektoval změněnou literární situaci a kdo oceňoval uměřené zastánce umění ostrovtipu. Zároveň se však projevoval jako klasicista a stoupenec M. T. Cicerona, který před nepřiměřeným a nevhodným užívání ostrovtipu varoval.

Consultatio as a genre of contemporary religious-political controversy and Consultatio of J. A. Comenius

The Latin term consultatio (consultation) in the 16th and 17th centuries took the headlines primarily in specialized medical publications, and later in legal as well. It seems that this term then derivatively became popular in written public debate, or rather in the religious-political controversy. Formally as consultatio (often accompanied by attributes such as utilis, salubris, orthodoxa, catholica...) were presented not only serious professional works, but very often pamphlets etc. However, if Comenius decided to launch its flagship life's work just as Consultatio, he surely just referred to the traditional genre, but - as in other titles of his works - he reached into his deep sense of the word and engaged it in the service of his plan. In addition, as we know, he had before his eyes a real consultation as well, the assembly or meeting of politicians, representatives of interreligious dialogue, etc. Termín consultatio (konzultace, porada) se v 16. a 17. století ujal primárně v nadpisech odborných publikací medicínských, a nato také právních. Zdá se, že odvozeně se pak stal oblíbeným v písemně vedené veřejné debatě, či spíše v polemice v oboru nábožensko-politickém. Formálně jako consultatio (nezřídka posílená přívlastky jako utilis, salubris, orthodoxa, catholica…) byly představovány jak seriozní odborné práce, tak často i dílka téměř pamfletické úrovně. Jestliže se však J. A. Komenský rozhodl uvést své stěžejní životní dílo právě jako consultatio, jistě se tím jen nehlásil k tradičnímu žánru, ale – podobně jako i v jiných případech nadpisů svých děl – sáhl do hloubky významu toho slova a zapojil je do služby svého záměru. Navíc, jak víme, měl před očima i skutečné konzultace, shromáždění a schůze politiků, představitelů mezináboženského dialogu apod.
