Determination of Inorganic Arsenic in Samples of Marine Origin
Marschner, Karel; Matoušek, Tomáš; Dědina, Jiří; Musil, Stanislav
2017 - English
A fast screening method for determination of inorganic arsenic in marine samples was developed. This method is based on selective\nhydride generationanddetectionby inductively coupled plasmamass spectrometry. Using a high concentration of hydrochloric acid\ntogether with hydrogen peroxide for hydride generation leads to selective conversion of inorganic arsenic species into arsane. The\naccuracy of this method was verified by comparative analyse by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with hydride generationandatomic\nfluorescence detection. Keywords: arsenic speciation; inorganic arsenic; hydride generation Available on request at various institutes of the ASCR

Fate of smelter dusts in temperate and semi-arid soils
Ettler, V.; Jarošíková, A.; Mihaljevič, M.; Kříbek, B.; Veselovský, F.; Penížek, V.; Vaněk, A.; Šráček, O.; Matoušek, Tomáš; Mapani, B.; Kamona, F.; Nyambe, I.
2017 - English
Our results indicate that, compared to semi-arid areas (where inorganic contaminants are rather immobile in soils despite their high concentrations), a higher potential risk exists in smelter-affected humid areas, where metal(loid) contaminants can be easily released by extensive weathering of particulates in the soil systems. Keywords: soils; smelter dusts Available in digital repository of the ASCR

Development of microfluidic device for droplet generation and microparticle encapsulation
Křivánková, Jana; Foret, František
2016 - English
Microfluidic devices combined with various bioanalytical and optical sensors proved\ntheir potential in chemical, biological, and biomedicine applications. At a droplet\nmicrofluidic device a fluid is divided into numerous droplets surrounded by a\ncontinuous immiscible fluid phase. Generated droplets serve then as\nvessels/microcapsules for delivering drugs, nutrients as well as for encapsulating of\nbiologically active particles and cells.\nDescribed experimental study deals with the development of a practical dropletbased\nmicrofluidic chip useful for production of monodisperse water/oil emulsion and\nfor encapsulation of thin-metal magnetic microsheets. Keywords: microfluidic device; microparticle encapsulation Available in digital repository of the ASCR

Determination of dicarboxylic acids in atmospheric aerosols using ion chromatography with on-line connected preconcentration unit
Čapka, Lukáš; Mikuška, Pavel; Večeřa, Zbyněk
2016 - English
A method for the fast and sensitive detection of dicarboxylic acids in atmospheric\naerosols was optimized. The method is based on the online sampling and subsequent\nanalysis with ion chromatography. The system was applied to the determination of\nDCAs in urban aerosols in Brno. The method was verified using a laboratory generated\nstandard aerosol of DCAs. A sampling of aerosol particles on parallel filter was used\nas a reference method. Keywords: atmospheric aerosols; dicarboxylic acids; aerosol collector; ion chromatography Available in digital repository of the ASCR

Combined effect of temperature and CdO nanoparticles treatment on Picea abies
Večeřová, Kristýna; Mikuška, Pavel; Oravec, Michal; Kozáčiková, Michaela; Pompeiano, Antonio; Coufalík, Pavel; Urban, Otmar
2016 - English
Three-years old seedlings of Picea abies were pre-treated under two different\ntemperatures (20x35 °C) and subsequently exposed to elevated concentration of CdO\nnanoparticles (CdONPs). Two-week exposure to airborne CdONPs of ecologically\nrelevant size and concentration significantly reduced photosynthetic light use efficiency\nin plants as well as contents of photosynthetic pigments and saccharides. In contrary,\namino acid content was increased under CdONPs. These changes were further\nmodulated by previous growth temperature. Keywords: Picea abies; terrestrial ecosystems; CdO nanoparticles Available in digital repository of the ASCR

Malá, Zdeňka; Gebauer, Petr; Boček, Petr
2016 - English
This work presents a new methodology for high-sensitivity analyses by capillary\nelectrophoresis (CE) with electrospray-ionization mass spectrometric (ESI-MS)\ndetection, based on electrophoretic focusing on an inverse electromigration dispersion\n(EMD) gradient. The technique is based on a robust electrolyte system providing a\ngradient of required properties, suitable for routine analyses of trace amounts of weak\nacids with pKa values between approx. 6.5 and 9. Examples analyses of several\nchlorophenols and sulfonamides are presented, with LODs around 3x10-9 M for spiked\ndrinking water without any sample pretreatment.
