Organizace protestní akce proti Husovu upálení

Studie se na základě prosopografické analýzy snaží o postižení organizačních souvislostí vzniku protestního dopisu proti Husovu upálení ze 2. září 1415. Na základě učiněných zjištění je možné vyslovit závěr, že většina signatářů z řad nižší šlechty připojila svoji pečeť k protestní akci spíše z loajality k mocnějším sousedům, než že by vyjadřovala vlastní konfesionální stanovisko. Based on a prosopographical analysis, the study attempts to capture the organizational context of the origin of the protest letter against Hus's burning at the stake from 2 September 1415. One of the main conclusions is that the majority of the signatories from the ranks of the lower nobility added their seals to the protest action rather from loyalty to their powerful neighbours than expressing their own confessional position.

Jezuita Matěj Václav Štajer patří mezi nejvýznamnější postavy české literatury druhé poloviny 17. století. Jeho Postila katolická je pozoruhodná z řady důvodů, jedním z nich je narativní rovina exempel. Pokud navíc spojíme exemplový plán Postily a Štajerova překladu Manniho Věčného pekelného žaláře, stane se Štajer jedním z vůbec nejvýznamnějších producentů exempel své doby. Pokusím se ozřejmit, jak s exemply pracuje, na několika případech předvedu různé interpretační a literárně historické problémy. The Jesuit Mathias Wenceslaus Steyer belongs among most important persons of the Czech literature of the second half of the 17th Century. His Postila katolická (The Catholic Postil) is remarkable for many reasons, this article focuses attention just on the narrative level of exempla. Moreover, if we join exempla from the postil and his translation of Manni's Eternal Infernal Jail, Steyer becomes one of the most important producer of exempla of his time. The article attempts unveil some aspects of his strategy how to work with exempla. On few cases, it shows various interpretative and literary historical problems.

Článek prezentuje analýzu demokracie z pohledu Politického marxismu. Jedná se o nový proud v současném marxismu, vycházející z prací amerického historika Roberta Brennera a kanadské politoložky Ellen Woodové, která odlišuje dvě koncepce demokracie. Antické pojetí demokracie vyrostlo z určitého historického stavu, kdy doposavad podřízené skupiny (rolníci) získaly občanský status. Naopak naše současné pojetí demokracie má své počátky nikoliv v antické demokracii, ale v evropském feudalismu. Jejími základními kameny jsou Magna Charta a rok 1688 v Anglii, které značí vzestup třídy vlastníků. V tomto případě tak nešlo o osvobození rolníků od politické nadvlády pánů. Ale o prosazení nezávislé moci pánů proti požadavkům monarchie. The article presents an analysis of democracy from the point of view of Political Marxism. Political Marxism is new stream in contemporary Marxism, which is based on the works of American historian Robert Brenner and the Canadian political scientist Ellen Wood. She distinguishes between two conceptions of democracy. The ancient concept of democracy grew out of a historical experience which had conferred a unique civic status on subordinate classes, creating in particular that unprecedented formation, the peasant citizen. Our contemporary concept of democracy, originating not in Athenian democracy but in European feudalism and culminating in liberal capitalism, with the major milestones, like Magna Carta and 1688, marks the ascent of the propertied classes. In this case, it is not a question of peasants liberating themselves from the political domination of their overlords but lords themselves asserting their independent powers against the claims of monarchy.

The author argues that descriptions used in narrative fiction typically function as incomplete descriptions of complete entities, rather than as descriptions of incomplete entities. This presupposes a specific account of fictional worlds and their inhabitants.

Studie analyzuje posuny v pojímání a reprezentaci mystifikací v české literatuře konce 19. století a jejich epistemologický kontext. Zatímco v předchozích dekádách byla mystifikace inscenována velmi často jako sociální praxe, na přelomu století se v tvorbě nastupující modernistické generace etablovala jako legitimní estetická a epistemologická kategorie. Tento posun v pojímání mystifikace odrážel obecný dobový skepticismus, který na přelomu století revidoval relevanci empirické evidence a postuloval alterntivní - neempirické - formy poznání, jež by důsledněji reflektovaly iluzorní povahu empirické evidence a nebezpečí klamu při zpracování tzv. fakt. The study focuses the shifts in the representations of hoax in the Czech literature at the end of the 19th century and their epistemological context. Whereas in previous decades mystifications were particularly represented as a social practice, at the turn of the century they free itself from existing ethical standards and raise to a legitimate aesthetic and gnoseological category. This shift in the conception of hoaxes reflected the general rise in the scepticism, which at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries cast doubt over illusory obviousness of empirical evidence. Despite this epistemological scepticism, however, a new conception showed some gnoseological optimism, i.e. did not exclude the possibility of gaining knowledge as such. However it postulated knowledge of a new and unempirical kind reflecting the danger of delusion.

Antika v nápisné kultuře českých zemí

Autorka informuje o elektronické databázi, která bude obsahovat nápisy z českých zemí, jež mají něco společného s antikou. Cílem dlouhodobého projektu Antika v nápisné kultuře českých zemí je postupně zdokumentovat a analyzovat antické dědictví v epigrafické kultuře českých zemí od prvních nápisných dokumentů až do současnosti. Nehraje přitom roli, zda je tento odkaz vědomý či nevědomý. Výsledkem celého projektu budou studie o 'druhém životě' antického světa v nápisech českého prostředí, tedy v oblasti, které dosud nebylo věnováno dostatek pozornosti. Teprve v této fázi projektu budou zkoumány cesty, jakými se antika do našich nápisů dostávala. Tento druhý život antiky u nás bude konfrontován s dědictvím antiky v epigrafické kultuře dalších středoevropských zemí. Author informs of the database that will contain inscriptions from the Czech lands that have something to do with antiquity. The aim of this longterm project is to gradually document and analyse the heritage of antiquity in the epigraphic culture of the Czech Lands from the first inscriptive documents to the present, regardless of whether or not the heritage is conscious or unconscious. The outcome of the entire project will be studies on 'Nachleben / the second life' of the ancient world in inscriptions in the Czech Lands, i.e. an area to which insufficient attention has been paid so far. Only in this phase of the project will the ways that antiquity had been getting into Czech inscriptions be studied. This second life of antiquity in our country will be confronted with the heritage of antiquity in the epigraphic culture of other Central European countries.

Příspěvek obsahuje část korespondence mezi Bohuslavem Balbínem a premonstrátem Aloisem Hackenschmidtem. První část je věnována Hackenschmidtovu životu a působení v Teplé a obsahuje shrnutí obsahu dopisů. Ty sloužily vzájemné spolupráci a výměně informací a obsahují také osobní rovinu. Dále následuje komentovaný překlad tří Hackenschmidtových a jednoho Balbínova dopisu ze sledovaného období. The lecture contains part of the correspondence between Bohuslav Balbin and the Premonstratensian Alois Hackenschmidt. The initial part deals with Hackenschmnidt's life and working in the Tepla monastery and summarizes the contents of the letters. These served to mutual cooperation and information flow and render information about numerous Balbin's works and reactions to them. However, the letters also have a personal level. Then follows a commented translation of three Hacksnschmidt's and one Balbin's letter from the given period.

The lecture presents the important Czech Jesuit 17th century scholar Bohuslaus Balbinus as a writer, literary scholar, teacher of 'humaniora', hagiographer and historiographer of Bohemia. Mainly a summary of his hagiographic and historic works will be given; these will be clarified as a phenomenon of Baroque patriotism of Czech catholic scholars in the 17 century.

O rozšíření pole zkoumání dějin umění svědčí změna oponentů, které si zvolila Rosalind Kraussová v průlomové stati 'A View of Modernism' z roku 1972 a v knize Under Blue Cup, kterou vydala v loňském roce. Zatímco v 70. letech tímto protivníkem nebyl nikdo jiný než kritik Clement Greenberg, o 40 let později se jím stala kurátorka přehlídky documenta X Catherine Davidové. Skutečnost, že si Kraussová k tomuto útoku zvolila Davidovou, není nijak náhodná. Kurátorka totiž výstavu documenta X (1997) pojala jako kinematografickou sekvenci děl, která polemizuje s 'bílou krychlí' tradičního muzea a politikou identity, které Kraussová ve své poslední knize obhajuje. Významnější je samotný fakt, že se vůbec poprvé rozhodla vyhranit vůči kurátorce, a ne jinému kritikovi či historikovi umění. Svědčí to o proměně výtvarného umění, na níž se sama Kraussová v 70. letech významně podílela. S tím, jak se umělecké dílo rozešlo se specifičností svých výrazových prostředků, a začalo se otevírat vnějším institucionálním podmínkám, došlo k oslabení významu uměleckého díla a naopak k posílení instalace a výstavy jako celku. I proto jsou dějiny současného umění stále častěji pojímány nikoli jako dějiny stylů či individuálních děl, nýbrž jako dějiny výstav. In her 'View of Modernism,' the groundbreaking study from 1972, Rosalind Krauss takes on the work of the critic Clement Greenberg. Forty years later, Krauss' Under Blue Cup (2011) challenges Catherine David, the curator of documenta X. This change in Krauss's choice of opponents is not incidental and testifies to the widening of art-historical research. David approached the documenta X exhibition (1997) as a cinematographic sequence of artworks, questioning the 'white cube' of the traditional museum and the politics of identity, which Krauss's book defends. The fact that Krauss decided to test her views against a curator rather than a fellow critic or art historian is even more significant. It shows the transformation of art, a process which Krauss herself helped to bring about in the 1970s. As the artwork gave up on the specificity of its means of expression and started opening up to external conditions, the importance of individual artworks weakened in favour of the exhibition as a whole. This is one of the reasons why the history of contemporary art has increasingly become a history of exhibitions rather than a history of styles and individual artworks.
