A new blade cascade for flutter studies

In this paper, a new blade cascade, developed in the Institute of Thermomechanics, is presented. The geometry of the cascade was modified so now the stall flutter can occur. It has some major construction improvements over the original cascade which now allow more precise and reliable measurements. The stability of the new blade cascade with five NACA 0010 profiles with rotational degree of freedom is assessed by Travelling Wave Mode approach and Aerodynamic Influence Coefficient approach.

The contribution deals with the first results on flutter instability of the linear cascade triggered by impulse excitation. Together with experimental results, numerical results obtained by reduced modelling of the cascade using van der Pol model of self-excitation are presented and discussed.

Příspěvek zkoumá možnosti, které se otevřely v období 1981–1990 interdisciplinárnímu výzkumu historismu 19. století v tehdejším Československu, v souvislosti se založením tradice plzeňského sympozia. Z jedné strany badatelé sledovali aktuální myšlenky „umění a pokroku“, s nimiž vystoupil Ernst Gombrich (1971). Z opačné strany přicházeli zastánci myšlenky „vývojové racionality a iracionality“ jako zdroje myšlenkové i estetické autenticity děl 19. století, jako Rudolf Chadraba, Jiří Ševčík, Helena Lorenzová a Vladimír Macura. The paper analyses the possibilities that opened up in the period 1981–1990 for the interdisciplinary research of Historicism in the former Czechoslovakia, given by the founding tradition of the Pilsen symposia. On the one hand, the researchers followed the current ideas of “art and progress” dealt with Ernst Gombrich (1971). From the opposite side came supporters of the idea of “rationality and irrationality” of development as a source of intellectual and aesthetic authenticity of 19th century works, such as jako Rudolf Chadraba, Jiří Ševčík, Helena Lorenzová a Vladimír Macura.

Ivan Borkovský. Archeolog mezi legendou, dvěma světovými válkami a dvěma totalitními režimy

Archeolog Ivan Borkovský vedl více než čtyřicet let technicky a později i odborně výzkum Pražského hradu, vedle toho se věnoval desítkám dalších lokalit. Patří k nejvýraznějším osobnostem československé a české archeologie středověku. Byl kolegou a učitelem celé řady významných archeologů, historiků a architektů. Přesto v jeho osobním životě a v jeho osudech ve vypjatých obdobích 20. století jsou neznámé momenty. Ve vzpomínkových textech jeho žáků a kolegů se vyskytují příběhy, které se za téměř padesát let od jeho smrti staly legendami. Většina z nich se ale nezakládá na pravdě. Je otázkou, zda podnět k těmto příběhům dal Ivan Borkovský sám nebo zda vznikly později a jakou roli v nich sehrála osobnost vypravěče. Předkládaný text se věnuje především těmto zvratům v jeho životě a pokouší se archivním průzkumem potvrdit nebo vyvrátit často opakovaná cliché. V neposlední řadě je cílem práce připravit půdu pro komplexnější zpracování jeho odborného odkazu, které nebude možné bez pochopení úskalí, jež jeho život provázela. Archaeologist Ivan Borkovský led the technical and later professional research of Prague Castle for more than forty years, in addition to dozens of other sites. He is one of the most prominent personalities of Czechoslovak and Czech archaeology of the Middle Ages. He was a colleague and teacher of a number of prominent archaeologists, historians and architects. Yet there are unknown moments in his personal life and in his fate in the tense periods of the 20th century. In the memoirs of his students and colleagues, there are stories that have become legendary in the nearly fifty years since his death. But most of them are not based on truth. The question is whether Ivan Borkovský himself gave rise to these stories or whether they were written later and what role the personality of the narrator played in them. The presented text focuses on these twists and turns in his life and attempts to confirm or refute the oft-repeated clichés through archival research. Last but not least, the thesis aims to pave the way for a more comprehensive treatment of his scholarly legacy, which will not be possible without an understanding of the pitfalls that accompanied his life.

Annular Impinging Jets and an Active Control of Hysteretic Effects

An annular impinging air jet with and without flow control was studied experimentally using measurements of the wall pressure and flow velocity by the Pitot probe. To investigate flow control swirling effects, eight synthetic jets were generated from the nozzle center body. The experiments cover Reynolds numbers 4000–10,000 (evaluated from the outer exit diameter of the annular nozzle). For Re<9000, the bistability and hysteresis were identified and two different flow field patterns (A, B) were found under the same boundary conditions. For higher Re>9000, the hysteresis were not found.

Stereolithography for manufacturing of advanced porous solids

The aim of this paper is focused on benefits of stereolithography (SLA) technology for the fabrication of the lightweight lattice structures with potential for load-bearing function and high absorption of impact energy. SLA is an additive manufacturing technology employing the principle of liquid resins curing moderated by radiation of a wavelength from ultra-violet band where resulting material parameters are tunable by setting of the curing process. The batches of samples manufactured using three different resins were subjected to quasi-static uni-axial tensile and compression tests. Acquired data were processed to derive deformation behaviour expressed as stress-strain diagrams and fundamental material properties. Based on the knowledge obtained from the mechanical tests, the setup of the fabrication parameters, the most suitable resin for manufacturing of the lattice structures and the overall suitability of SLA technology for the fabrication of advanced porous materials, were determined.

The Manuscript Bohemia et Moravia Subterranea (1729) by Mauritius Vogt reflects the subterranean landscapes and underground spaces based on Athanasius Kircher’s theories. The paper analyses the application of Kirchers’s terminology to the natural phenomena from Bohemia and Moravia. Further, we focused on how Vogt worked with his sources – how far he relied on literature, correspondence, or personal experience.

Základy proteomiky

Náplní první části kurzu bude úvod do proteomiky s cílem ukázat současné metody a nástroje použitelné k akvizici a vyhodnocení proteomických dat. V první části probereme ve zkrácené formě všechny kroky experimentálního postupu od 1) designu experimentu tak, aby byl vhodný pro následnou LC/MS analýzu, 2) přípravy vzorku na příkladech imunoprecipitace a komplexního lyzátu až po 3) možnosti měření pomocí Data Dependent nebo Data Independent acquisition. Součástí kurzu bude i kritické hodnocení kvality naměřených dat. Při vyhodnocení se zaměříme na možnosti zpracování dat ve freeware SW typu MaxQuant a DIAnn. Rovněž Vás stručně seznámíme s komerčními programy – Proteome Discoverer, PEAKS, Spectronaut. Druhá část kurzu bude zahrnovat úvod do statistického zpracování kvantitativních proteomických dat v softwaru Perseus. Důraz bude kladen na pochopení důležitých statistických pojmů (distribuce dat, t-test, ANOVA, p-value, FDR, atd.) a porozumění všem nezbytným krokům statistické analýzy, jako je filtrace dat, normalizace dat, statistické testování, apod. K dispozici budou modelová data, která budou účastníci v rámci kurzu zpracovávat. The first part of the course will be an introduction to proteomics with the aim to show current methods and tools used for proteomic data acquisition and evaluation. In the first part, we will discuss in abbreviated form all steps of the experimental procedure from 1) designing the experiment to be suitable for subsequent LC/MS analysis, 2) sample preparation using examples of immunoprecipitation and complex lysate, to 3) measurement options using Data Dependent or Data Independent acquisition. The course will also include a critical evaluation of the quality of the measured data. The evaluation will focus on the possibilities of data processing in freeware software such as MaxQuant and DIAnn. We will also briefly introduce you to commercial programs - Proteome Discoverer, PEAKS, Spectronaut. The second part of the course will include an introduction to statistical processing of quantitative proteomic data in Perseus software. Emphasis will be placed on understanding important statistical concepts (data distribution, t-test, ANOVA, p-value, FDR, etc.) and understanding all necessary steps of statistical analysis such as data filtering, data normalization, statistical testing, etc. There will be model data that participants will process during the course.
