The proceedings contains papers presented at the 25th International Conference on Engineering Mechanics, which has been held in Svratka resort in Czech Republic under auspices of the Czech Society of Mechanics and being a part of IFTOMM (The International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science) activities. As it corresponds with character of the conference, this proceedings consists of several topic oriented parts: Biomechanics, Fluid mechanics, Dynamics, Fracture mechanics, Kinematics, Mechatronics, Reliability of structures, Mechanics of solids, Technological processes, Thermodynamics. Already 10th International Workshop NDT in Progress 2019 was organized by the Czech Society for NDT (CNDT) along with the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences under auspices of ACADEMIA NDT International and European Federation for NDT. This is the Book of Abstracts for the International Workshop on Topological Structures in Ferroic Materials (TOPO2019 conference) held in Pruhonice-Prague on June 16-20, 2019. The special objective of the conference is expressed in the conference title: Topological Structures in Ferroic Materials. The continuous worldwide interest to this conference series is proving that it has a respected position within the series of International conferences covering all interdisciplinary field of the research. The fifth TOPO meeting in Prague 2019 was aiming to bring together the forefront science experts as well as young scientists interested in topological aspects of magnetic, superconducting, ferroelectric as well as liquid crystal matter, and mutually benefit from the beauty of the existing unifying scientific perspective. At the TOPO2019 conference more than 90 participants from 20 countries all over the world presented about 50 lectures.\n

Quantitative Approaches to Versification

This volume presents a wide range of quantitative approaches to versification. It comprises various methodological perspectives ranging from simple descriptive statistics to advanced machine learning methods (such as support vector machines, random forests or neural networks) as well as material covering a large span of time and languages: from very ancient versifications (Sumerian, Akkadian, Hittie, Ancient Greek), through medieval (Old English, Old Icelandic, Old Saxon) and Renaissance verse to modern experiments (free verse, concrete poetry), from English and Russian through Spanish and German to Portuguese and Catalan. Not only written, but also spoken poetry has been analyzed. The book covers multiple topics. What they all share in common is that versification is being studied in the context of other linguistic phenomena that may affect or determine it. Analyses of large corpora go hand in hand with comparative approaches. It is shown that quantitative approaches can be used for the purpose of authorship attribution, to build reasonable typologies as well as to understand why certain forms play such a dominant roles in our cultural tradition(s).

A Stranger of the House - the Crossroads III

The Crossroads III – A Stranger in the House. Foreigners in Ancient Egyptian and Near Eastern Societies of the Bronze Age conference has been held at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (Prague) between September 10 and 13, 2018. The main objective of the conference was to enhance our understanding of “foreignness” in ancient societies between the end of the Chalcolithic period and the end of the Late Bronze Age. This book collects some of the twenty most significant contributions presented at the conference. Some authors decided to approach the discussion from a theoretical perspective, or to present and discuss theoretical frameworks that could be used to explore at least some elements underlying the concept of “foreignness”. Others investigated sociocultural dimension involved in the presence of foreigners, or in their interactions with local communities. Cases from Egypt, Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and the Levant, covering the whole of the Bronze Age have been discussed. The wide range of perspectives, and their combination within the frame of the conference often stimulated that multidisciplinary dialogue that was the primary aim of this third edition of Crossroads

Radek Mikuláš convened the 15th International Ichnofabric Workshop to Prague (April 27th – May 5th, 2019). Thirty-two specialists from over the world presented recent contributions from the mainstream branch of ichnology, e.g., ichnofabrics of terrestrial systems. Special discussion block was devoted to the use of computed tomography in the study of Ichnofabric. Three days (five days for participants of the post-workshop excursion) for the workshop were devoted to field excursions. Thereby, most of the localities known only through publications have been seen and evaluated directly to the world top ichnologists.
