EATAW 2021: 11th Conference of the European Association for the Teaching of the Academic Writing: Book of abstracts
Kašpárková, A.; Frančíková, Dagmar; Etchegoyen Rosolová, Kamila
2021 - anglický
The theme of EATAW 2021 was “The residence of writing and writing support.” Academic writing is considered an interdisciplinary field. The activities of academic writing teachers and related research head in many different directions. The conference helped us revisit the foundations, and asked seemingly simple questions: Who are we?, Where do we work?, What is our field?, (How) has academic writing become a field?, How do technologies help us?, Who are other stakeholders in academic writing support? Moreover, our theme explored the essence of our work and professional identity in an unprecedented time of the covid-19 outbreak that had put more things in motion than we could have ever imagined. Therefore, we added the question of: What has changed recently? We felt that some of the questions had been here for decades but may have still been unanswered in certain contexts and/or in contexts that keep changing. The conference was held online on July 7 and 8, 2021, and was organized by VSB-Technical University of Ostrava and the Czech Language Institute, Czech Academy of Sciences. Klíčová slova: academic writing; writing for publication; Czech Republic Plné texty jsou dostupné na jednotlivých ústavech Akademie věd ČR.

Quantitative Approaches to Versification
Plecháč, Petr; Barry, P.; Skulacheva, T.; Bermúdez-Sabel, H.; Kolár, Robert
2019 - anglický
This volume presents a wide range of quantitative approaches to versification. It comprises various methodological perspectives ranging from simple descriptive statistics to advanced machine learning methods (such as support vector machines, random forests or neural networks) as well as material covering a large span of time and languages: from very ancient versifications (Sumerian, Akkadian, Hittie, Ancient Greek), through medieval (Old English, Old Icelandic, Old Saxon) and Renaissance verse to modern experiments (free verse, concrete poetry), from English and Russian through Spanish and German to Portuguese and Catalan. Not only written, but also spoken poetry has been analyzed. The book covers multiple topics. What they all share in common is that versification is being studied in the context of other linguistic phenomena that may affect or determine it. Analyses of large corpora go hand in hand with comparative approaches. It is shown that quantitative approaches can be used for the purpose of authorship attribution, to build reasonable typologies as well as to understand why certain forms play such a dominant roles in our cultural tradition(s). Klíčová slova: versification; quantitative verse studies; prosody Dokument je dostupný na externích webových stránkách.

A Stranger of the House - the Crossroads III
Mlynářová, J.; Kilani, M.; Alivernini, Sergio
2019 - anglický
The Crossroads III – A Stranger in the House. Foreigners in Ancient Egyptian and Near Eastern Societies of the Bronze Age conference has been held at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (Prague) between September 10 and 13, 2018. The main objective of the conference was to enhance our understanding of “foreignness” in ancient societies between the end of the Chalcolithic period and the end of the Late Bronze Age. This book collects some of the twenty most significant contributions presented at the conference. Some authors decided to approach the discussion from a theoretical perspective, or to present and discuss theoretical frameworks that could be used to explore at least some elements underlying the concept of “foreignness”. Others investigated sociocultural dimension involved in the presence of foreigners, or in their interactions with local communities. Cases from Egypt, Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and the Levant, covering the whole of the Bronze Age have been discussed. The wide range of perspectives, and their combination within the frame of the conference often stimulated that multidisciplinary dialogue that was the primary aim of this third edition of Crossroads Klíčová slova: emigration and immigration; immigrants; aliens; social structure; social mobility; bronze age; ancient Egypt; Middle East Plné texty jsou dostupné na jednotlivých ústavech Akademie věd ČR.
