Characterization of five mosaic mortar beds from Austria produced by A. Neuhauser/Tiroler Glasmalerei and J. Pfefferle

The report contains the results of material analyses of five mortar beds of mosaics produced by the Austrian studios Neuhauser/Tiroler Glasmalerei and Josef Pfefferle. The analysed samples come from mosaics made at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and located in various places in Tyrol. The mortars were analysed by SEM-EDS and thermal analysis. The results showed that, in addition to traditional materials such as marble dust, they also contain atypical or innovative components such as waste ceramic and glass shards or early Portland cement.

The aim of the survey was to assess the use of Ground Penetration Radar for the reinforcement position detection on the Ice ring restaurant – an early concrete building on Štvanice Island in Prague from 1932. For this case study a potentially critical section of a façade above the app. 16 m long horizontal window was selected. GPR from IDS company equipped with 2 GHz high frequency antenna was used.

Region of interest tomography

During standard tomographic process, the acquisition of tomographic data (projections) is performed with geometric adjustment of the tomographic assembly ensuring that the projection of the entire width of the examined object fits onto the detector during the full object rotation. Because of the limited width of the detector, this approach has a limited maximum achievable resolution for the given specimen diameter. It is possible to make higher magnification, but then the projections do not fit onto the detector, which causes certain problems during the reconstruction, but allows achieving of higher resolution in the always-visible region of the object (the region of interest). The research was focused on evaluation of ROI tomography approach on the TORATOM tomograph.

The report describes the procedure and results of the measurements of aerodynamic model of the planned high-rise building in Gothenburg in Sweden. The determined wind pressure distribution on individual surfaces of the building for several wind directions are presented in the form of external pressure coefficients. The obtained pressure coefficients are subsequently used by the client for the design of façade elements loaded by the wind.

Findings and comments based on visual inspection of damaged historical buildings – cultural heritage monuments - by Professor Miloš Drdácký. lt seems that there is a lack of an advanced documentation and especially diagnostics of condition of historical buildings and monuments. Namely, long term monitoring of defects in their relation to loadings is missing. Further, laboratories and know how for determination of material characteristics has a potential for improvement.
