National Expert Assessment of the Gender Perspective in the National Strategic Report

The study is evaluating the National Strategy for Social Inclusion and Social Protection from the point of view of gender mainstreaming and policies for the promotion of gender equality in the Czech Republic. Gender mainstreaming is not visible in the NSR for the Czech Republic. Gender disaggregated statistics are presented but not analysed or used as a tool to create measures to advance gender equality. Studie hodnotí Národní strategický plán sociálního začleňování z hlediska aplikace gender mainstreamingu a politik k prosazování genderové rovnosti v České republice. Gender mainstreaming v tomto plánu České republiky chybí. Statistiky členěné podle genderu jsou prezentovány, ale nejsou analyzovány nebo využity jako nástroj k vytvoření opatření pro posílení genderové rovnosti.

Gender segregation in the labour market: roots, implications and policy responses in the Czech Republic

This study presents an analysis of the situation of the Czech Republic, a country with one of the highest levels of gender segregation in the labour market of all EU countries. The segregation of women into low-income professions, firms and employment groups plays a very important role in the Czech Republic and is the cause of approximately one-third of the gender pay gap. At present the gender segregation of the labour market is not a topic that is being discussed at the political level. Studie prezentuje situaci České republiky jako země s jedním z nejvyšších stupňů genderové segregace trhu práce v rámci zemí EU. Segregace žen do nízkopříjmových profesí, firem a sektorů hraje v ČR velmi důležitou roli a je přímou příčinou velkého podílu mzdových rozdílů mezi muži a ženami. V současnosti není genderová segregace trhu práce tématem, které by bylo diskutováno na politické úrovni.

Who is chickening out of marriage

The paper analyzes increase in non-marital fertility in the Czech Republic in 1990-2005. It emphasize that non-marital fertility is typical for women with low education and for women living in regions with little economic prospects. Using data from SECM, it is argued that this increase in extra-marital childbearing cannot be fully explained by procreation within cohabiting unions. Instead, this paper points out that decline in marital births can be to a large degree attributed to men’s withdrawal from families, which is significant especially among lower classes. Práce analyzuje nárůst nemanželské plodnosti v České republice v letech 1990-2005. Zdůrazňuje, že nemanželská plodnost je typická pro ženy s nízkým vzděláním a ženy z ekonomicky slabších regionů. Na základě dat SEM se ukazuje, že nárůst mimomanželské plodnosti nemůže být zcela vysvětlen nárůstem nesezdaných soužití. Práce naopak ukazuje, že pokles manželské plodnosti může být připsát do značné míry odchodu mužů z rodin a že tento trend je významný především v nižších sociálních vrstvách.

15 year old pupils and their computer literacy – a particular issue in the field of educational inequalities

Computer literacy of 15-year-old pupils is analyzed within this paper and situation in the Czech Republic, Germany and Hungary is discussed using the OECD PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) 2003 dataset. The research question of what socio-economic factors affect computer literacy is elaborated. Besides significant differences between boys and girls, possession of a computer and an internet access was found to be most appropriate factor to explain distinctions in computer literacy. V tomto příspěvku je analyzována počítačová gramotnost patnáctiletých žáků v České republice, Německu a Polsku s využitím datového souboru PISA 2003. Řešena byla otázka, jaké socioekonomické faktory ovlivňují počítačovou gramotnost. Vedle významných rozdílů mezi dívkami a chlapci, vlastnictví počítače a přístupu k internetu byly identifikovány jako faktory s největším podílem vysvětlujícím rozdíly v dosažené úrovni počítačové gramotnosti.

The goal of the article is to show some problems of statistical significance. Some authors argue that this concept is bad because of these problems and propose to abolish it in the science. The article offer some solutions to common problems of the concept. Cílem textu je poukázat na problémy používání statistické významnosti. Někteří autoři na základě těchto problémů navrhují přestat statistickou významnost ve vědě vůbec používat. Text se snaží nabídnout některá řešení nejběžnějších problémů, které s sebou nese statistická významnost.

Educational mobility during socialism

In my contribution I recapitulated up to now findings about character and extent of educational inequalities in the socialist Czech Republic and I showed what the results of verification of existing findings (through a new mobility analysis) are. The mobility point of view with the help of log-linear modelling led to identify specific local structural contexts, i.e. in what way Czech education mobility system (pre-socialist and socialist) evolved. Ve svém příspěvku jsem shrnula dosavadní zjištění o charakteru a rozsahu vzdělanostních nerovností v socialistické České republice a ukázala jsem, k jakým výsledkům jsem došla prostřednictvím nové mobilitní analýzy, tj. co ukázal proces ověřování dosavadních zjištění. Mobilitní úhel pohledu a log-lineární modelování umožnily identifikovat specifický lokální strukturální kontext, tj. jakým způsobem se vyvíjel mobilitní režim českého vzdělanostního systému.

Gender and Activism in the Czech Anti-Globalization Movement

Activism in the Czech anti-globalization movement from a gender perspective is examined. The article focuses on the representation of men and women. The status of men and women and gender divison of labour are investigated. It is argued that there is a gap between the ideology of the movement and the real fulfilment of the ideals from a gender perspective. Women participate less than men, their position is inferior and there is gendered division of activities in the movement Materiál zkoumá aktivismus v českém antiglobalizačním hnutí z hlediska genderu. Článek se zaměřuje na zastoupení mužů a žen; zjišťuje postavení mužů a žen a genderové rozdělení práce. Studie uvádí, že existuje mezera mezi ideologií hnutí a skutečným naplňováním ideálů z hlediska genderu. Ženy mají menší zastoupení než muži, jejich postavení je horší a aktivity v hnutí jsou rozděleny z hlediska genderu

Cílem této studie je ukázat, jak je možné posílit osobní a společenský kapitál uznáním a rozvojem tvorby znalostí III. modu. Naše řešení je postaveno na devíti souborech utvářejících složek (‚framers') (technologie, kontext, proces, znalosti, kultura/hodnota, role, učení se, aplikace, politika/rozhodování) terciárních vzdělávacích služeb podporujících rutinní neustálou inovaci na úrovni jednotlivce. Předpokládá se, že jednoduché složky si mohou osvojit ‚obyčejní' jednotlivci, kteří uplatňují implicitní profesionalismus, a že jejich komunikaci a spolupráci s terciárním vzděláváním je proto možné rozšířit. Našimi základními předpoklady bylo, že postavení implicitních znalostí je v rámci jednotlivce a explicitní znalosti se objevují jako produkt jednotlivců, kteří se snaží selektivně uplatňovat své znalosti formou osobního a společenského kapitálu podporujícího neustálou inovaci. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate how personal capital and social capital can be enhanced by the recognition and development of Mode III knowledge production. Our approach employs nine sets of framers (technology, context, process, knowledge, culture/value, role, learning, application, policy/decision) for tertiary education services in support of routine, continuous innovation at the level of the individual.It is assumed that simple framers can be acquired by žordinary individuals practicing implicate professionalism, and that their communication and collaboration with tertiary education can thereby expand. Our guiding assumptions has been that tacit knowledge is positioned within the individual, and that explicit knowledge emerges as a product of individuals who endeavor to selectively apply their knowledge in the forms of personal and social capital in support of continuous innovation.
