Learning Styles Informed Instruction in English Classes

The thesis deals with English language teaching based on respecting learners' learning styles.It discusses especially modification of instruction in relation to the learning styles proceeding from the preferred representation system (visual, auditory and kinesthetic style). Respecting learners' learning styles is combined with practising learning strategies. In the practical part, action research conducted in a selected class of a lower secondary school is presented. Its aim was, on the basis of the diagnosis of learners' learning styles, to conduct adequate English language teaching and to evaluate this intervention from the perspective of the teacher as well as the learners.

Adventures of Tom Sawyer in ELT

This master thesis focuses on Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and its possible uses in English language teaching (ELT). The theoretical part puts The Adventures of Tom Sawyer into the context of children's literature and introduces the concept of extensive reading programme through which a graded version of the book is presented to elementary school learners (seventh-graders) in the practical part. At the end of the thesis, the outcome of the action research is analysed and evaluated.

Gender Expectations in Alcott´s Little Women

The aim of this thesis is to analyze Louisa May Alcott's heroines in Little Women and Good Wives from gender point of view and their transformation from girls to women. At the beginning, gender stereotypes, stereotypes of men and women and gender role theory will be depicted. Next, this thesis will focus on historical background and the position of women in 19th century America. Later on, this thesis will deal with the novel itself and author's background. Excerpts from the novel will be provided and analyzed. In the final part of this thesis the analysis will be thoroughly summarized.

Colour Management for Applications Using Thermochromic Inks

The objective of the thesis is to offset a two-component antifraud pattern with thermochromic
and conventional inks achieving maximal colour match between the parts by means of colour management. The theoretic part comprises the information about colour spaces, colour management and thermochromic inks. Herein the questions of an ICC profile creation and evaluation, colour management workflow arrangement are studied, the structure and properties of thermochromic inks are considered. The experimental part describes the performed research, including the steps: the first test chart creating and printing, colour measuring, printing press ICC profile generating, performing the thermochromic ink overprint simulation by applying the profiles in ColorLab software application, creating and printing the second test chart, colour measuring and final evaluation of the profiles. According to the results, the maximal colour match was achieved for thermochromic overprints over two-component combinations of primary yellow-cyan and yellow-pink inks with area coverage 10?60 of either constituent. Better outcome was obtained for the line graphics.

This thesis aims to analyse the reflection of women's roles in the British society in A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Based on the cultural and historical analysis focusing on the consequences of the British Welfare State, the paper attempts to link the features of the British society to the novel. The basic definitions of feminism and feminist literary theory are then introduced and confronted with the aspects of the Burgess's novel in order to find out in what ways the novel reinforces patriarchal ideology.

This thesis focuses on the teacher´s use of the English and Czech language in English lessons. The theoretical part supports and encourages teacher´s predominant use of the target language in English lessons, presenting strategies and modifications of the teacher talk. The practical part describes what strategies the teachers use to keep the classroom in the target language. Situations and reasons for the teachers´ resorting to the mother tongue are also analysed.

Island Topos in John Fowles' The Magus

This thesis deals with the portrayal of the island topos in the novel The Magus (1977) by John Fowles. In the initial part of the paper, archetypal patterns of an island topos are captured as well as their essence which resides in human imagination. Special attention is devoted to an island's natural isolation. The insularity is then displayed in two constantly floating antitheses of a paradise and a prison. The core part of this work analyses the island in the aforementioned novel as well as the characters' changing perception of the place. An inseparable part of the analysis includes an interpretation of the island as the Panopticon, Michel Foucault's concept of penitentiary institution.

This master's thesis has a particular focus on the children´s book Peter Pan, written by British author J.M .Barrie, and, specifically, it analyses its possible use in English language teaching (ELT). The theoretical part establishes Peter Pan in the context of fantasy and children´s literature, and introduces the method of drama in ELT. The practical part contains lesson plans aimed at drama in ELT and an evaluation of the research method and its outcomes.
