Cílem této bakalářské práce je podat rozbor tvorby Philipa Larkina a zmapovat tak jeho postoj k suburbanizaci. Úvodní kapitola poskytuje historický a socioekonomický kontext poválečné Británie. Na téma suburbanizace v Larkinově poezii se pohlíží ze dvou hledisek. V první části je rozbor básní zaměřen na suburbanizaci jako na důsledek stále bohatší společnosti, která tak měla možnost kupovat stále větší domy s většími pozemky. Druhá část se zabývá přírodou a venkovem; s rostoucí rozlohou měst se ztrácela nenarušená příroda. Dále je posouzen Larkinův postoj jako takový, který bývá označován za nostalgický.

Cílem této bakalářské práce je vylíčení zkušenosti průkopníků v knize Moje Antonie od Willy Cather. V první části bakalářské práce je představen region Velkých planin s důrazem na místní počasí a další charakteristiky tohoto regionu, které ovlivňovaly život tamních obyvatel. Další část se věnuje skupinám imigrantů a jejich adaptaci. V analytické části je podrobněji popsán způsob osídlení české rodiny Shimerdů. Poslední část práce se zaměřuje na koncept tzv. "hired girls". Dále jsou vytyčeny rozdíly mezi těmito dívkami a dívkami americkými.

Bakalářská práce se zabývá rozvojem autonomie u žáků anglického jazyka pomocí
informačních a komunikačních technologii (ICT). V teoretické části je nejprve definována autonomie žáka v kontextu kurikulární reformy. Poté je vysvětleno sebehodnocení jako jedna z důležitých schopností autonomního žáka. Další kapitola stručně představuje moderní technologie. Následně je charakterizován konkrétní ICT nástroj vybraný pro tuto práci blog. V závěru teoretické části jsou rovněž přiblíženy dovednosti psaní.
Praktická část ověřuje, zda a jak přispívá blog k rozvoji autonomie u žáků anglického jazyka. Za tímto účelem byl vytvořen souhrn devíti aktivit, které byly následně ověřeny v praxi prostřednictvím výzkumu. Aktivity stejně jako výsledky výzkumu jsou analyzovány a následně vyhodnoceny pomocí nástrojů zvolených pro sběr dat. V poslední části práce jsou prezentovány závěry výzkumu.

Status of DARE and NEED in Contemporary British Newspapers

This paper is devoted to a morphosyntactic and semantic analysis of verbal constructions with DARE and NEED, distributed in contemporary British newspapers, with relation to grammaticalization. The theoretical part focuses on morphosyntactic characteristics of the lexical and modal variants of DARE and NEED, and further characterises formal properties of blend constructions with the verbs in question. Moreover, meanings of the individual variants and subsequently selected processes of grammaticalization concerning DARE and NEED are discussed. The analytic part consequently studies morphosyntactic features and meanings of the verbal constructions with DARE and NEED in British present-day newspapers.

Cílem této práce je provedení analýzy ztvárnění postav a chudoby, kterou jsou postavy sužovány v době Velké hospodářské krize v dílech Tabáková Cesta a Boží Políčko Erskina Caldwella. První část práce poskytuje socio-historický rámec amerického Jihu včetně změn v podobě industrializace a Velké hospodářské krize v té době probíhající. Druhá část práce je zaměřena na analýzu venkovské chudoby a vlivu, který měla ve dvou Caldwellových dílech na jeho postavy.

Hlavním cílem této práce je poskytnout analýzu her Malá rodinná firma od Alana Ayckbourna, Skryté osvícení od Davida Hara a Thatcherovské děti od Trevora Griffithse, které pochází z období 80. let 20. století v Británii. V úvodní části práce je představena charakteristika vlády Margaret Thatcherové a její vliv na britské divadlo a obzvláště na politické divadlo. Druhá část zahrnuje analýzu vybraných her, ve kterých se věnuje speciální pozornost způsobu, který dramatici používají k zobrazení období vlády Margaret Thatcherové.

Faustovský motif ve viktoriásném románu

Práce se zabývá faustovským motivem ve vybraných románech z viktoriánského období. Teoretická část této práce se zaměřuje na faustovskou postavu, její motiv, vývoj a hlavní rysy zobrazené v literatuře, které zůstaly ovlivněny významnými literárními zpracováními, jako je například dílo Faust od Johanna Wolfganga von Goetheho. Praktická část rozebírá jednotlivé romány: Na Větrné Hůrce od Emily Brontëové, Frankenstein od Mary Shelleyové a Obraz Doriana Graye od Oscara Wildea. Práce je založena na komparativní analýze třech hlavních postav z výše uvedených románů. Hlavním záměrem práce je zodpovězení otázky do jaké míry mohou být tyto postavy interpretovány jako faustovské a jakým způsobem se jejich tvůrci navracejí k tradičnímu faustovskému motivu.

The main purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of the depiction of fallen women in the plays Mrs. Warren's Profession by George Bernard Shaw and The Second Mrs. Tanqueray by Arthur Wing Pinero which date back to the end of the nineteenth century, which is called the late Victorian and Edwardian period. In the initial part of the paper its main goals are introduced and the theoretical background to the analysis is provided. British drama of that period as well as its main characteristics are presented together with the role of women and their treatment. The second part considers analysis of the fallen women. Certain aspects of both heroines are then compared and contrasted.

This work focuses on the analysis of Uncle Tom´s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe and slave narratives by Harriet Ann Jacobs and by Sojourner Truth. The main aim of the paper is to show how slavery disrupts slave mother-child relationships. It is explained who is depicted to be responsible for the intrusion into slave families, and how mothers act when the bond to their children is endangered. The paper also deals with literary techniques the authors use to emphasize the brutality of slavery as this would affect Americans´ position on slavery.

The overall aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze and compare romantic relationships in the short stories "Under the Bridge," "Monkey Junk" and "Muttsy" written by Zora Neale Hurston. In the first chapters the Harlem Renaissance is briefly introduced with the emphasis on Zora Neale Hurston's writing. Further, the theories of love triangles, possessive behavior and superior behavior are defined. These theories are applied on the analysis of the three short stories in the second part of this paper. Certain aspects of these three short stories are compared to Hurston's novel Their Eyes Were Watching God.
