Focus Sensitive Particles: Comparison of English Even and French Meme. A Corpus-Based Study.

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem fokalizačních, či rhématizujících částic v angličtině a ve francouzštině. Konkrétně se jedná o komparativní studii anglické částice even a francouzské částice meme, které jsou mnohdy považovány za ekvivalenty. V první části práci je nastíněna problematika informační struktury textu, s důrazem na pozici rhématu. Následně autorka rozebírá obecnou definici fokalizačních částic, uvádí její typologii a představuje všeobecné charakteristické rysy této kategorie. Autorka se dále zaměřuje na konkrétní situaci v angličtině a francouzštině, a představuje teoretickou základnu pro even a meme. V třetí, analytické, části, se autorka soustřední na korpusovou studii, na základě které provádí komparaci obou fokalizačních částic. Autorka se především soustředí na výběr argumentů těchto fokalizačních částic a zkoumá typické prostředí, ve kterém se tyto částice objevují. Na základě dat získaných korpusovým výzkumem je autorce umožněna diskuze ohledně míry ekvivalence těchto částic. This thesis deals with the phenomenon of focus sensitive particles in English and French. Specifically, it is a comparative study of the English particle even and the French particle meme. These particles are often considered being equivalents. In the first part of the thesis, the framework of information structure of text is outlined, with an emphasis on the category of focus. Subsequently, the author analyses the general definition of focus sensitive particles, she presents the typology and the general characteristics of this category. The author further focuses on the specific situation in English and French, and introduces a theoretical basis for even and meme. In the third, analytical, part, the author concentrates on the corpus study, where she aims to compare both of the focus sensitive particles. Above all, the author focuses on the selection of arguments of these particles and she explores the typical environment in which these particles appear. Based on the acquired corpus data, the author is able to discuss the extent of the equivalence of these particles.

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vyobrazením starých a mladých v pozdějších dílech Hanifa Kureishiho - "Tělo", Vůbec nic, Poslední slovo, Něco vám povím a "Země starých". Cílem této práce je analyzovat, charakterizovat a porovnat skupiny starých a mladých na základě toho, jak jsou popsány v Kureishiho dílech. Staří, stejně jako mladí, budou porovnáni mezi jednotlivými díly a následně srovnáni s druhou skupinou. Očekávaným výsledkem této bakalářské práce je vysoká podobnost mezi zástupci stejné skupiny a odlišnosti mezi dvěmi skupinami. This bachelor thesis is concerned with the portrayal of the old and the young in Hanif Kureishi's later work - "The Body", The Nothing, The Last Word, Something To Tell You and "The Land of the Old". The aim of this thesis is to analyze, characterize and compare the groups of the old and the young based on how they are portrayed in Kureishi's writing. The old, as well as the young, will be compared between the individual works and then compared to the other group. The expected result of this bachelor thesis is high similarity between representatives of the same group, and differences between the two groups.

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá vyjádření kategorie určenosti "definiteness" v anglickém, českém a čínském jazyce. Tyto jazyky byly vybrány proto, že zastupují dvě různé jazykové skupiny - jazyky, které mají členy (angličtina) a jazyky, které členy nemají (čeština a čínština). Cílem diplomové práce bylo zjistit, jak se do češtiny a čínštiny překládají anglické jmenné fráze, které obsahující člen určitý. This bachelor thesis investigates the expression of definiteness in three different languages, English, Czech and Chinese. These languages were chosen because they represent two different language groups - languages with articles (English) and languages without articles (Czech and Chinese). The aim of the thesis was to find out how Czech and Chinese translate noun phrases containing the English definite article 'the'.

Cílem této bakalářské práce je definovat pojem identita a zaměřit se na otázku identity ve dvou prozaických dílech Jackie Kayové "Trumpet" a "Red Dust Road". Jackie Kay je důležitou postavou v současné Skotské literatuře. Ve svých dílech se zaměřuje hlavně na otázku identity, ať už v próze či v poezii. Začala se tomu věnovat díky vlastním zkušenostem. Již od dětství si uvědomovala, že představuje směsici mnoha identit, když se musela vyrovnat s tím, že je adoptovaná a musela snášet šikanu a rasistické poznámky od obyvatel bigotního Skotska. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to define the concept identity and explore the question of identity in two fictions by Jackie Kay "Trumpet" and "Red Dust Road". Jackie Kay in an important figure in contemporary Scottish literature. In her works, either her prose or poetry, she focuses on the question of identity mainly. She started to dedicate herself to it thanks to her own experiences. From a very young age she has been aware of her mixture of identities when she had to deal with the fact that she is adopted and with bullying and racism.

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá Turecko-Kurdským mírovým procesem, který probíhal mezi lety 2013-2015. Hlavním cílem této práce je vysvětlit selhání Tureckého mírového procesu skrze teorii racionální volby. Značná část této práce je věnována dlouhodobé i krátkodobé historii Kurdské otázky v Turecku za účelem identifikace klíčových aspektů konfliktu a základních východisek aktérů. Teorie racionální volby je použita k určení podmínek, které zásadním způsobem ovlivnily výsledky vyjednávání a jako teoretický nástroj vysvětlující rozhodovací procesy aktérů. Na základě provedeného výzkumu by mělo být možné identifikovat hlavní důvody, které přivedly Tureckou vládu ke konečnému rozhodnutí ukončit mírový proces a pokračovat ve vojenském konfliktu. This master's thesis deals with the Turkish-Kurdish peace process which took place between the years 2013-2015. The aim of the thesis is to explain the failure of the peace process through the use of rational choice theory. This thesis places great emphasis on both the long-term and short-term history of the Kurdish issue in Turkey in order to identify the key aspects of the conflict and the main preferences of the actors involved. Rational choice theory is used to establish a set of conditions determining the likely outcome of the negotiations and as a theoretical tool explaining the decision-making processes of the actors. Based on the conducted analysis, it should be possible to identify the main reasons which led the Turkish government to the final decision to end the peace process and continue the military conflict.

The effect of auxin herbicides on the regulation of endogenous auxin homeostasis in plants

Účinkem auxinových herbicidů na endogenní auxinovou rovnováhu rostlin se doposud detailněji nikdo nezabýval. Tato diplomová práce si proto klade za cíl rozkrýt auxinové pozadí modelové rostliny A. thaliana po aplikaci pěti auxinových herbicidů v různých koncentracích. Experimenty byly prováděny na klíčních rostlinách rostoucích na médiu obsahující příslušný herbicid, ale také na dospělých rostlinách, které byly herbicidy sprejovány. V testovaných rostlinách se pak pomocí kapalinové chromatografie sdružené s tandemovou hmotnostní spektrometrií (LC-MS/MS) podařilo stanovit celkové auxinové metabolické profily. V návaznosti na zaznamenané změny auxinových profilů byly vytipovány kandidátní geny, které byly testování pomocí RT-qPCR metody. Po ošetření auxinovými herbicidy byly pozorovány jak změny na urovni genové exprese tak i změny auxinových profilů, zejména pak snižování endogenní hladiny IAA, změny hladin prekurzorů biosyntézy IAA a nárůst produktů konjugace a degradace IAA The effect of auxin herbicides on endogenous auxin homeostasis have not been studied detailly yet. The aim of this master thesis is to reveal the auxin background of model plant Arabidopsis thaliana after application of five herbicides in different concentrations. The experiments were made on seedlings growing on medium with chosen herbicides and on mature plants which were sprayed with the herbicides. The auxin profiles were established using liquid chromatography combined with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). According to changing auxin profiles the target genes were selected and tested using real time - quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). After auxin herbicide treatment the changes in gene expression were observed and changes in auxin profiles were observed as well, especially decreasing of endogenous IAA levels, changes in IAA precursor levels and increase of auxin conjugates and degradation products.

Fanny Burneyová, hluboce přemýšlivá, všímavá a přirozeně inteligentní, byla rozpolcena mezi svým kritickým přístupem k omezující společnosti a její potřebou být společností akceptována jako žena, tak jako spisovatelka. Proto zápasila sama se sebou, aby vyhověla ideálu ženské nesmělosti, požadované tehdejší společností. Nicméně, její satira nemusí být plně potlačena. Záměrem mé bakalářské práce je hledání satiry v "nejspontánnějším" románu Fanny Burneyové Evelina. Fanny Burney, a deeply reflective, observant and naturally intelligent, was always torn between a critical attitude towards the restrictive society and her need to be accepted by it, as a person as much as a writer. That is why she struggled to conform to the approved idea of womanly diffidence. However, her satirical flair could not be suppressed entirely. My thesis concern to look for Fanny Burney the satirist in her most "spontaneous" novel Evelina.

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá tlumočnickými strategiemi, které užívají začínající tlumočníci jako reakci na rychlost mluvního tempa řečníka. Cílem práce je zjistit, jaké strategie používají studenti tlumočení v reakci na rychlost mluvního tempa řečníka. V teoretické části práce je představeno simultánní tlumočení a jeho typologie. Dále je nastíněna problematika tlumočnických strategií, teoretický a pedagogický význam tlumočnických strategií a jsou popsány tlumočnické strategie jako aspekt odbornosti tlumočníků. Dále se tato část věnuje problematice mluvního tempa a jsou zde klasifikovány tlumočnické strategie použité při analýze korpusu. Praktická část práce se věnuje metodologii výzkumu, věnuje se výpočtu mluvního tempa jak řečníka, tak tlumočníků. Dále popisuje subjekty výzkumu, využité vybavení, řečníka a jeho projev a segmentaci textů. Poslední kapitola této části uvádí výsledky analýzy dvoujazyčného korpusu. This diploma focuses on interpreting strategies used by novice interpreters as a response to the speaker's speech tempo. The aim of this thesis is to detect which interpreting strategies are used by novice interpreters and whether the speech tempo is an important criterion for using interpreting strategies. The theoretical part of this thesis introduces simultaneous interpreting and its typology. It presents the issue of interpreting strategies and outlines the theoretical and pedagogical value of interpreting strategies and defines interpreting strategies as an aspect of interpreting expertise. It defines the speech tempo and classifies interpreting strategies used in the analysis. The practical part introduces the methodology of the research and defines the calculation of the speech tempo. In this section are classified the subjects of the research, equipment, the speaker and segmentation. The last chapter is devoted to the results of the corpus analysis.

Kolektivní spinové operátory

Cílem této práce je prozkoumat možnosti implementace hamiltoniánů působících na kolektivní symetrické spinové stavy mnohaatomových souborů. Pokud experiment umožňuje konstruovat lineární a kvadratické funkce složek operátoru kolektivného spinu $\hat{J}$, úkolem je zjistit, do jaké míry lze emulovat působení vyšších mocnin těchto operátorů na zkoumaný systém. Motivací je zejména příprava a transformace kvantových stavů pro účely zpracování kvantové informace. V úvodní části diplomové práce bude proveden rozbor vlastností operátoru J a prodiskutují se některá důležitá experimentální uspořádání s ohledem na zpracování kvantové informace. V hlavní části pak budou vlastní výzkumné výsledky zaměřené na možnosti konstrukce hamiltoniánů vyšších řádů a jejich optimalizace s ohledem na počet kroků a požadovanou přesnost. The aim of this thesis is to explore the possibilities of implementing Hamiltonians acting on collective symmetric spin states of multiatomic sets. If the experiment allows to construct the linear and quadratic functions of the components of the collective spin operator J, the task is to find out to what extent it is possible to emulate the effects of higher powers of these operators on the system under investigation. In particular, the motivation is the preparation and transformation of quantum states for the purposes of quantum information processing. In the introductory part of the thesis we will analyze the properties of the operator $\hat{J}$ and discuss some important experimental arrangements with regard to the processing of quantum information. In the main part there will be research results focused on possibilities of construction of higher order Hamiltonians and their optimization with respect to number of steps and required accuracy.

Tato práce se zaměřuje na dopad autora Jamese Fenimora Coopera na autory Karla Maye, a Zane Greye, za pomocí analýzy zvolených románů těchto autorů. Zvolené romány jsou Poslední Mohykán od Coopera, Vinnetou I od Maye, a Jezdci z purpurových stepí od Greye. Práce je rozdělena do tří části, každý analyzující jiný prvek románů. Tyto prvky jsou postavy, zasazení příběhů, a příběh samotný. Hlavním cílem je zjistit dopad děl Coopera na díla Karla Maye a Zane Greye. This thesis focuses on the impact of James Fenimore Cooper on the authors Karl May and Zane Grey through analysis of their selected novels, those being The Last of the Mohicans for Cooper, Winnetou I for May, and Riders of the Purple Sage for Grey. The thesis has three parts, each analyzing different part of the novels, those being characters, setting of the story, and the story itself. Main purpose of the thesis is to ascertain the impact of Cooper's work on the work of Karl May and Zane Grey.
