Global aviation alliances: An effect of cooperation on individual performance of airlines

V posledních letech konstelace, jako jsou globální letecké aliance, vznikaly a byly výrazně rozvíjeny. Trh leteckých společností je jimi silně ovlivněn. S pomocí dat z výročních zpráv 11 různých leteckých společností z hlediska provozních a finančních výkonů představuji model panelových údajů. Hlavním cílem je pochopení dopadu členství v globální letecké alianci na výkon aerolinií s důrazem na výnosy a cirkulaci cestujících. Za použití různých metod a modelů, jako jsou například neměnné vlivy a prvotní rozdíly založené na panelových údajích, jsem nebyl schopen zaznamenat jednoznačný výsledek. Z tohoto důvodu nemohu v závěru říci, jestli je pro aerolinie vstup do aliance z hlediska výnosů a počtu pasažérů prospěšný, nebo neprospěšný. Nicméně nejedná se o jediné měřítko, které je potřeba brát v úvahu. Existuje mnoho dalších bodů, které by měly být v rámci tohoto odvětví průmyslu zkoumány, stejně jako tu jsou možnosti pro zdokonalení tohoto výzkumu. In recent years such constellations, like global aviation alliances were formed and they have been developing a lot. They heavily affect the airline market. Using the data from annual reports of 11 different airlines on operational and financial performances, I run a panel data model. The main objective is to understand the effect of global aviation alliance membership on the performance of airlines - revenue and passenger flow in particular. Using different methods and models, such as fixed effects and first differences based on panel data I was not able to document a significant result. Therefore, I could not conclude that it is either beneficial or not in terms of revenue and amount of passengers for airlines to enter an alliance. However, it is not the only thing to take into account and there is more to be researched in this industry, as well as a possibility to improve this research.

Economic Development of German Federal States in Regard to their Labor Market in 1990-2012

The ongoing debate around a successful reunification process is dividing Germany, not only geographically but also socio-economically and politically. There have been some remarkable achievements during the reunification, especially during the first years, but the period 1990-2012 has also seen some negative developments. Analysis is based mainly on databases from the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP), as well as other administrative data sources such as the Deutsche Institut for Wirtschaft (DIW). In examining and comparing the roles of demographic changes, productivity, the implementation of active labor market policies (ALMPs), labor participation, unemployment, education, the gender gap, and wage inequality, we analyze the development of the german labor market by its main determinants, in order to conclude whether the German government has succeeded in the reunification of East and West Germany. Tato práce zkoumá vznik jednoho z nejrychleji rostoucích ekonomických jevů moderní doby - "sdílené hospodářství". Cílem této práce je oddělit dva možné způsoby, které mohou vést ke zvýšení využití sdílení služeb ekonomiky;Peer-pressure and information-cascades. Navíc jsem předpokládal, že Peer-pressure a Information-cascades vedou ke zvýšení využívání služeb sdílející ekonomiky. Pro testování této hypotézy, byl proveden ekonomický experiment, v němž byly účastníci vyzváni k účasti v hře loterii, která se skládá z 12 period a v každé si l vybrat ze dvou možností; jedna představovala standardní hospodářství, zatímco druhá představovola sdílené hospodářství. Výsledky experimentu mně umožnilo prokázat svou hypotézu, neboť naznačují, že oba, Peer-preassure a Information-cascades jsou ve skutečnosti schopné ovlivnit rozhodování účastníka při zapojení do sdílených služeb ekonomiky a podílet se tedy na vzniku spoluspotřebitelství. This thesis explores the emergence of the newest type of economy the sharing economy one of the fastest growing economic phenomena in contemporary times. This thesis cites numerous research papers that encompass the sharing economy alongside other papers in different fields such as marketing and experimental economics. The main goal of this thesis is to disentangle possible channels that may have led to the increase in use of the sharing economy-provided services. To do so, we conducted an experiment using tools provided by the field of experimental economics. In the theoretical part of this thesis the main aim was to broadly explain what the sharing economy is as well as introduce the concepts to be used in the practical part. At the beginning I focus on defining the sharing-economy concept including its many definitions when it first appeared and the three phases that account for its emergence. I then explain the sharing economy concept providing the reason it is gaining worldwide recognition as well the main enablers behind it major companies involved with it the three main systems operating within it and the economics behind it. Finally I explain the many angles associated with its success, such as the concepts of Web 2.0 and P2P. Towards the end of the theoretical part I introduce the concepts that are relevant to the practical part and the experiment including risk-preferences information cascades and peerpressure. The practical part of this thesis focuses on the experiment including methodology designs treatments results etc. In the practical I present the hypothesis and the econometric model used for running the regression in order to test my hypothesis. Lastly I present the outputs I have obtained after running the regression, and comment on their significance and relevance to my hypothesis.

This thesis explores the efficiency of the reforms on the labor market of Spain in 2012. The main goal of this work is to evaluate the effectiveness of undertaken reform against its own objectives. Relevance of this topic is that after the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 many country s economic situation significantly worsened. Searching for the way out of the complicated and undesirable economic situation countries applied new reforms and development plans majority of which did not contribute into the improvement of country s economy. Concerning this fact it appears extremely important to analyze measures undertaken by Spanish government and its efficiency. To evaluate the effect caused by the reforms I have analyzed long-term results of it its influence on the selected indicators and overall unemployment. Cílem této bakalářské práce je popis a analýza jevů, kdy náhle dochází k neočekávanému a prudkému poklesu na finančních trzích, tzv. krachům nebo kolapsům. Tato práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část práce se zabývá definicí finančního trhu a krachu, kromě toho je uveden přehled teorií, které podávají vysvětlení vzniku spekulativní bubliny a její splasknutí. Předmětem praktické části práce je líčení nastalé události na finančních trzích za účelem zjištění možných příčin, okolností a následků těchto krachů. The aim of this work is description and analysis of the phenomena which suddenly cause unexpected and sharp decline in the financial markets, called crashes or collapses. This work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with the definition of the financial market and its crash, in addition, this part provides an overview of the theories explaining the origin of the speculative bubble and its bursting. The object of practical part is to describe occurred events in the financial markets in order to determine the possible causes, circumstances and consequences of these crashes.

The main objective is to depict the business environment of Chile, using an example of a real business case. The first part concentrates on PESTLE analysis of Chile. Second part focuses on the conditions of launching and running a business in that country. In the third part a hotel project is analysed and relevant conclusions are drawn.

The purpose of this paper is to provide insight into the most efficient allocation of salary in the National Hockey League, with respect to the positional groups of forwards, defensemen, and goaltenders. With the hypothesis that the most efficient method by which to allocate salary is disproportional between the three groups, three different regressions are run. The results of the regressions and subsequent tests confirm the hypothesis that teams should perform better if they do not allocate their available salary proportionally. It is found, holding spending on goaltenders constant, that teams should perform better if they invest more in either forwards or defensemen. The results are in support of previous papers, written by Marchand et al. (2007) and Simmons & Berri (2011), that an egalitarian pay system is not ideal. Models of Education Financing and their Impact on Students Performance

Tato kvalifikační práce se zaměřuje na vliv vzdělávání v soukromých institucích na výsledky studentů. Ve své práci analyzuji panelová data, vydávaná na roční bázi, zahrnující stav ekonomiky a vzdělávacího systému ve 34 státech OECD mezi lety 2000 a 2014. V první části své práce předkládám historický vývoj postoje ke vzdělávání v rámci veřejných a soukromých statků. V druhé části pak poskytuji přehled dosud vydané literatury na toto téma, která slouží jako základní kámen mé praktické části. V praktické části zkoumám vliv ekonomické situace, vzdělávacího systému a procenta studentů zapsaných na soukromých školách v jednotlivých zemích OECD na výsledky studentů. Závěry vyvozené z mých modelů nepotvrdily moji hypotézu o pozitivním efektu soukromého vzdělávání na výkonnost. Podíl studentů zapsaných na soukromých školách vyšel ve většině modelů nesignifikantní. Tento jev můžeme vysvětlit díky různým přístupům studentů k soukromému vzdělávání v různých zemích. V některých zemích jsou soukromé vzdělávací instituce vnímány jako komplement a naopak v některých jako substitut k dobrým kognitivním schopnostem. This thesis focuses on the influence of private enrolment in OECD countries on education performance exhibited by students. In my work I analyse panel data portraying annual status of economy and education system in 34 OECD countries from 2000 till 2014. In the first part, I present the historical evolution of the approach to education in terms of public and private goods, in the second part, I provide an overview of related literature that provides a cornerstone for my practical part. In my practical part, I investigate the influence of economic background of OECD countries, educational system and rate of private enrolment on students´ performance. The conclusion of my models did not confirm my hypothesis of beneficial influence of private enrolment on performance. Private enrolment is insignificant in majority of models. Reasoning for this phenomenon may be different approach of students to private education. In some countries, private institutions are perceived as complement and in some as a substitute to good cognitive abilities.

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na návrh marketingové komunikace pro nový start-up CleanMyPlace, vítěz VŠE Xport soutěže roku 2015, jehož cílem je zvýšení povědomí o značce a zlepšování stávajících marketingové strategie a taktiky. Teoretická část je věnována marketingovým nástrojům, zejména online komunikaci, jelikož tato společnost poskytuje své služby přes internet. V praktické části jsou definovány a analyzovány aktuální marketingové komunikace. Následující praktická část práce prezentuje dotazník a zjišťuje výsledky. V závěrečné části jsou navržena konkrétní řešení a doporučení zaměřená na zlepšení poskytovaných služeb a doporučenou marketingové komunikace za účelem zvýšení povědomí o značce. This bachelor thesis is focused on the proposal of marketing communication for new start-up company CleanMyPlace, the winner of VŠE Exports 2015, aimed at increase of its brand awareness and improvement of existing marketing strategies and tactics. The theoretical part is devoted to marketing tools, most improtantly to marketing online communication, as soon as this brand provides its services via internet. In the practical part are defined and analysed the current marketing communication. The following practical part of the thesis presents the performed questionnaire and discovered results. In the final part are proposed particular solutions and recommendations aimed at improvement of the offered services and a suggested marketing communication for the purpose of increaing the brand awareness.

Tato práce zkoumá vztah mezi cenami ropy a měnovými kurzy zemí vyvážejících ropu z hlediska jejich závislosti na ropných výnosech. V práci byly použity denní hodnoty cen a kurzů za období 2005-2015. V první části jsou popsána data a základní charakteristiky jednotlivých zemí. Druhá část zahrnuje ekonometrickou teorii, na níž je založena praktická část. Aplikace modelu korekce chyby vede ke kontroverzním výsledkům. Analýza založená na přístupu GARCH prokazuje pozitivní vztah mezi hodnotou měn a cenou ropy, avšak souvislost s závislostí na ropných výnosech není zcela zřejmá. Práce rovněž podporuje závěry existujících výzkumů, jako například negativní vztah mezi hodnotou amerického dolaru a cenami ropy. This paper studies the relationship between the oil prices and exchange rates of oil exporting countries, in terms of their dependence on oil rents. The study is based on data at the daily frequency over the period 2005-2015. In the first chapter, the data set and basic characteristics of the countries are described. The second chapter represents the econometric framework for the practical section. Applying a vector error correction model mainly produced controversial results. Analysis based on a GARCH approach found a positive relationship between the value of the currencies and the oil prices, although the link with the oil rents dependence is not sufficiently evident. The paper also supports stylized facts, such as a negative relationship between the U.S. dollar value and the oil prices.
