Relationship Between Evaluation and Motivation of the Learner

The theoretical part of this diploma thesis presents the concept of evaluation, including the definition, types, forms, functions and tools of evaluation, which focus on testing and different types of tests. Further, the concept and evaluation of communicative competence are discussed. Hereafter, the definition of motivation is introduced, followed with the essential approaches that underlie motivation, types of motivation and basic tips how to evoke and maintain motivation among students. Finally, the theoretical part offers an opinion on the link that exists between evaluation and motivation, based on the theory of both concepts. The practical part contains a research which provides an insight into reality of evaluation and motivation, from the points of view of the students, teachers and the author of this diploma thesis. To the above mentioned purpose, observations, questionnaires with open question for the teachers and questionnaires with multiple choice for the students were chosen. Ke zlepšeni přesnosti predikce reflexniho spektra byly navrženy nove metody odhadu primarnich barev na zakladě kombinace měřenych/odhadnutych přetisků ve Spektralnim Neugebauerovem a Yule-Nielsenovem spektralnim Neugebauerovem modelu. Tato diplomova prace se zaměřuje na porovnani třech přístupů v určeni všech barvovych kombinaci produkovanych tiskovym strojem. Jedna se o měřene Neugebauerovy primarni barvy (NPs), odhadnute přetisky (NPs) Kubelkovou-Munkovou teorii a kombinovane přetisky (NPs). Přesnost modelovani dvou 4-barvovych laserovych tiskaren (Xerox Phaser 6250DP a Xerox Phaser 7760GX) v kombinaci s 5 různymi typy papirů byla ohodnocena na zakladě CIE barvovych odchylek (deltaEab, deltaE94 a deltaE00) a spektralnich odchylek (RMSE, GFC). Dr. Seuss's children's books in ELT

The thesis concerns the issue of children's literature and its possible uses in English language teaching (ELT). For this purpose, picture books of an American author Dr. Seuss have been chosen. Firstly, the theoretical background is introduced. It deals specifically with the term children's literature, its definition, genre division, historical context and its importance to readers. It also focuses on the author, Dr. Seuss, his works and their potential for English language teaching and learning. Furthermore, it describes the learners involved and general objectives they are going to achieve. Secondly, the practical part presents five lessons that reflect the findings from the first part. It also contains a teacher's reflection and feedback from pupils. Reflection of English as a Lingua Franca in Listening Activities of Selected Textbooks

The paper studies the the reflection of English as a lingua franca in basic education in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part describes the concept of English as a lingua franca, determines the roles of different sources of listening input with the stress on textbook audio recordings, summarizes previous research of teachers' attitudes to English as a lingua franca, and introduces documents defining objectives of basic education in the Czech Repulic. The research part comprises a case study. Firsty, the reflection of English as a lingua franca is analysed in relevant documents. Secondly, textbook listening and pronunciation activities are evaluated. Lastly, teachers' attitudes to English as a lingua franca are elicited. The topic of the thesis is the development of autonomy in ELT. In the theoretical part, firstly, the concept of autonomy is presented as well as the aims stated in the Framework Education Programme for Basic Education. The thesis then deals with basic aspects of autonomy that are motivation, self-assessment and roles of participants in teaching-learning processes. The theoretical part is concluded by the description of various means of learner training, i.e. the ways that are believed to facilitate the development of autonomy. The theoretical bases are afterwards used in the practical part. Its primary aim is to develop autonomy of learners in a particular classroom by means of an action research. In the final part of the action research, the efficiency of strategies adopted in order to make the learners more autonomous is evaluated. This thesis discusses teaching speaking at upper-secondary schools towards achieving communicative competence. The theoretical part outlines the concept of communicative competence as reflected in speaking, as well as basic principles of syllabus design. Testing speaking is discussed, together with a critical analysis of the reformed final examination. The main outcome of the practical part is the development of teaching and testing materials, reflecting the theoretical background. Diplomová práce analyzuje dvě dětské obrázkové knihy s obsahem homosexuality And Tango Makes Three a Molly´s Family. Jestli jsou knihy pro děti vhodné, stejně tak jako problémová beletrie, je předmětem zkoumání diplomové práce. Práce se zaměřuje na zásadní faktory, které měly významný vliv na vývoj dětské literatury zejména z hlediska obsahu knih. Tyto faktory jsou, postoj společnosti k homosexuálům a společenský vývoj v rodinách a vzdělávání. Analýza knih spolu s argumenty veřejnosti napomůže vytvořit závěr, zda autoři prezentovali téma homosexuality dětem adekvátně, s ohledem na jejich věk a psychický vývoj. Ann Radcliffe's The Mysteries of Udolpho and Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey: A Comparison of the Two Novels

The aim of this thesis is to show the elements of a parody of the Gothic genre in Jane Austen's novel, in contrast to the work of Ann Radcliffe. The first part focuses on characterizing the Gothic genre. It also gives description of origin, features and development of this genre, from its beginning to its end, in England. The second part of the paper describes lives and works of both authoresses, Ann Radcliffe and Jane Austen. Radcliffe is considered one of the most important authors of the Gothic fiction. Jane Austen, who was also influenced by the genre, however, wrote its parody. The last part of the thesis focuses on analysis of Austen's novel Northanger Abbey and compares it with Radcliffe's work The Mysteries of Udolpho. The thesis will conclude by providing an explanation where Northanger Abbey's parody lies, in comparison with one of the most typical example of the Gothic genre. The thesis deals with textbook evaluation. Firstly, the textbook theory is discussed; a certain attention is paid to the textbook functions, syllabus type, the textbook characteristics and structural components of the textbook units. Secondly, usage of textbook is critiqued; advantages and disadvantages of using textbooks, pupils' and teachers' reasons for using textbooks and lastly the future of textbooks are addressed. The outcome of the theoretical part is the criteria for textbook evaluation. Thirdly, the research is conducted with the aim of investigating whether there is an agreement between the selected textbooks and the objectives of the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education and to what extent the selected textbook are in the concord with them. The research selects the textbooks; consequently it evaluates the selected textbooks and finally compares the obtained findings. The research applies questionnaire for selection of the textbooks, the analytic method and subsequently the comparative analysis of both textbooks. Conclusion presents the outcomes connected to the defined aim of the thesis.
