Signal flow analysis of the electromagnetic emission processes in living cells

Living cells contain polar macromolecules and higher aggregates such as microtubules. These perform mechanic vibrations and emit electromagnetic radiation. Fröhlich proposed kinetic equations for occupancy numbers of vibration modes. Signal flow graphs are employed to represent causal relationships in the model. Analytical apparatus associated with the diagrams affords quantitative characterization of the system’s behaviour. Results of numerical simulations are interpreted with regard to cell physiology. Biologické buňky obsahují polární makromolekuly a vyšší agregáty jako mikrotubuly. Při jejich mechanických kmitech vzniká elektromagnetické záření. Fröhlich navrhl kinetické rovnice pro obsazovací čísla vibračních vidů. Grafy signálových toků jsou použity pro reprezentaci kauzálních vztahů v tomto modelu. Analytické prostředky teorie grafů dovolují kvantitativní popis chování systému. Výsledky numerických simulací jsou interpretovány vzhledem k buněčné fyziologii.

Hlavním cílem práce bylo porovnání nitridu křemíku připraveného metodami LP CVD a MW PE CVD ze silanu a čpavku s ohledem na možnost pasivace c-Si povrchových vrstev. Vlastnosti vrstev nitridu křemíku byly studovány metodami SPV, FTIR a SIMS. Průměrná hodnota difuzní délky minoritních nosičů v Si vzorcích s LP CVD nitridem byla kratší a závisela na místě v reaktoru. The main purpose of this work was the comparison of the silicon nitride prepared by the LP CVD and by the MW PE CVD from silane and ammonia gases with respect to the possibility of passivation c-Si surface layer. The properties of the silicon nitride films were studied by the surface photovoltage (SPV), FTIR and SIMS methods. The average value of the diffusion length of minority carriers in the Si samples with the LP CVD nitride was shorter and dependent on the location in the reactor.

Comb filtering in speech enhancement

V článku je popsána zdokonalená metoda jednokanálového zvýrazňování řeči pomocí hřebenové filtrace. Hřebenový filtr je adaptivní s kmitočtem základního tónu řeči a je použit v kmitočtové oblasti. Improvement of the classical single-channel speech enhancement techniques by comb filtering is presented in this paper. The comb filter is adaptive based on estimated pitch frequency and is applied in the spectral domain.

V příspěvku je presentován evropský projekt BReATH (BRoadband e-services and Access for The Home) – jeho cíle a předběžné výsledky. Jsou uvedeny příklady využívání optické kabelové infrastruktury pro poskytování širokopásmových služeb na bázi Internetu. Objectives and preliminary results of the European FP6 IST Project BReATH (BRoadband e-services and Access for The Home) are presented. Examples of utilisation of optical fibre infrastructure for provisioning interned-based broadband services are given.

This paper aims to provide an evaluation of the effectiveness of three different speech enhancement algorithms. The evaluation of their efficiency was based on the hit rate recognition by computer speech recognizer. These speech enhancement algorithms are based on the method of spectral subtraction and differ by noise spectrum estimation system. The first algorithm estimates noise spectrum on the basis of its statistical characters. Next two algorithms estimate noise spectrum by nonlinear adaptive models. Příspěvek porovnává efektivitu tří odlišných algoritmů zvýraznění řeči. Hodnocení efektivity je založeno na určení procentuelní úspěšnosti rozpoznání zpracované řeči pomocí řečového rozpoznávače. Všechny popsané algoritmy jsou založeny na metodě spektrální subtrakce, ale liší se rozdílným způsobem odhadu výkonového spektra šumu. První algoritmus provádí odhad statistickou analýzou spektrálních vlastností signálu obsaženého v řečových pauzách. Zbylé dva algoritmy odhadují výkonové spektrum šumu pomocí nelineárních adaptivních modelů.

Indium phospide single crystals were grown by Czochralski method. Various dopants were added to the melt to obtain semi-insulating crystals suitable for detection purposes. Prototype detectors were prepared and evaluated by spectral detection of alpha particles and x-rays. Monokrystaly indium fosfidu byly připravovány růstem podle metody Czochralského. Do taveniny byly přidávány různé dopanty tak, aby se získaly semiizolační krystaly vhodné pro detekční účely. Byly připraveny prototypy detektorů a vyhodnoceny spektrální detekcí alfa částic a rtg paprsků.

Voice conversion based on nonlinear spectrum transformation

A new voice conversion algorithm is presented, which transforms the utterance of a source speaker into the utterance of a target speaker. The voice conversion algorithm is based on spectral speech analysis, nonlinear frequency transformation, spectral envelope warping, spectrum interpolation and cepstral speech synthesis. Prosodic transformations, i.e. fundamental frequency, time and intensity scale modifications are also shortly mentioned. Je popsán nový algoritmus pro konversi hlasu, který transformuje promluvu zdrojového mluvčího na promluvu cílového mluvčího. Algoritmus je založen na spektrální analýze, nelineární kmitočtové transformaci, změně spektrální obálky, interpolaci spektra a kepstrální syntéze řeči. Stručně jsou zmíněny také prosodické transformace, tj. změna základního tónu, časového a intensitního měřítka řeči.

The direct detection of oscillations in biological cells may deliver strong evidence for Fröhlich´s theory of coherent excitation in biological systems. Some results of measurement at millimeter waves published in the literature are mentioned. A laboratory equipment for the measurement of mm-waves excitations in yeast cells is described. The measurement system is controlled by computer and measured data are stored in the computer memory for evaluation. Some results of the evaluation are given. Přímá detekce oscilací v biologických buňkách může podpořit platnost Fröhlichovy teorie koherentních oscilací v biologických systémech. Jsou uvedeny některé výsledky měření na milimetrových vlnách publikované v literatuře. Je popsáno laboratorní zařízení pro měření oscilací v kvasinkových buňkách na mm vlnách. Měřicí systém je řízen počítačem a naměřené údaje jsou ukládány do paměti počítače pro vyhodnocení a statistické zpracování. Jsou uvedeny některé výsledky vyhodnocení.

Úspěch erbiem dopovaných vláknových zesilovačů v telekomunikacích podnítil i nedávný rozvoj vláknových laserů, které v mnoha aplikacích začínají nahrazovat konvenční pevnolátkové lasery. V přednášce je podán přehled základních principů vláknových zesilovačů a laserů. Jsou popsány i některé aplikace vláknových laserů. Success of erbium doped fiber amplifiers in telecommunications stimulated also recent developments in the field of fiber lasers. Basic principles of fiber amplifiers and lasers are overviewed in the paper. Some applications of fiber lasers are described as well.

The paper deals with implementation of voice modification in the Czech and Slovak text-to-speech /TTS/ system as Microsoft speech application programming interface /MS SAPI/ TTS engine based on diphone inventory. The original male voice database serves for creation of three derived databases with modification factors given by the average formant and pitch shift between male, female and childish voices. The source-filter model as well as the harmonic speech model, both with cepstral description, were used. Příspěvek se věnuje transformaci hlasu v česko-slovenském Text-to-Speech /TTS/ systému s difónovým inventářem a syntézou na bázi kepstrálního a harmonického modelu řeči ve formě systémového ovladače řečového rozhraní MS SAPI 5 pro platformu OS Windows. Metodou nelineárního mapování frekvenční škály byl modifikován původní řečový inventář s mužským hlasem čímž se získaly další hlasy - ženský a dětský.
