2021 - English Cílem této bakalářské práce je identifikovat sémantické vztahy na základě asociací vzniklých při hraní deskové hry Krycí jména. Nejprve popíši samotná pravidla hry a zaměřím se na vysvětlení klíčových pojmů jako je význam slova a idealizovaný kognitivní model. Poté charakterizuji použité sémantické vztahy, teoreticky je popíši a uvedu příslušné příklady těchto vztahů. V další části je kvantifikuji, zhodnotím tendence jejich použití a na závěr vyhodnotím míru úspěšnosti. The aim of the thesis is to identify sense relations on the basis of associations that were used in the Codenames board game. First, I will describe the rules of the game and focus on the brief explanation of the crucial terms like the meaning of words and idealized cognitive models (ICM). This is followed by the characterization of sense relations, their theoretical background, and respective examples. Furthermore, I will quantify them and evaluate the tendencies of their usage. To conclude, I summarize the success rate of the sense relations. Neologisms related to the Covid-19 pandemics

2021 - English Cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, zda v anglickém jazyce vznikly neologismy v souvislosti s pandemií Covid-19, jak jsou časté a zda jsou to opravdu nové výrazy. Práce nejprve popisuje globální situaci týkající se této pandemie mezi březnem 2020 a červnem 2021. Poté se věnuje jazykovým změnám a vlivu internetu na jazyk. Dále také představuje hlavní slovotvorné procesy v anglickém jazyce, vymezuje pojem neologismy, uvádí některé příklady nově vzniklých slov/sousloví a určuje u nich slovotvorný proces. V praktické části je zanalyzován výsledek korpusového výzkumu. Ten zahrnuje deset vybraných článků z britských a amerických online novin, blogů apod. Pomocí programu #Lancsbox je vytvořen vlastní korpus. Z Oxford English Dictionary jsou vybrána slova, která vznikla v dubnu 2020 a týkají se pandemie Covid-19. Nejen tato slova jsou poté hledána v rámci korpusu. Poté práce analyzuje, jak často jsou nově vzniklá covid-slova užívaná a jaká je míra jejich novosti. Práce je psaná v angličtině. The main goal of this Bachelor's thesis is to find out if there are any new words coined in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, what is their frequency and level of novelty. First the work descries the global situation of Covid-19 pandemic between March 2020 and June 2021. Then it introduces the main word formation processes, explains what neologisms are, lists some of the examples of newly coined words/phrases and determines their word-formation process. In the Practical part it contains an analysis of the results of the corpus research. The research contains ten chosen articles from British and American online news platforms, blogs etc. and with the help of the programme #Lancsbox, own corpus is created. Then the work analyses the frequency of the newly coined covid-words and what is the level of their novelty. The work is written in English language. 2021 - English Po přehledu irsky psané literatury se tato práce zabývá anglickým překladem autobiografie An t-Oileánach (The Islandman) Tomase O'Crohana se zájmem o popis venkovského života v Irsku. Poté je zkoumán anglický překlad humoristické novely An Béal Bocht (The Poor Mouth) Flanna O'Briena se zájmem o odkazy na O'Crohanovu autobiografii a prvky satiry. Krátce je zde popsána i tvorba Ralpha Steadmana, autora ilustrací v The Poor Mouth. Poslední kapitola podává přehled o tom, jak se během 20. století vyvinulo fiktivní vyobrazení venkovských Irů v literatuře. After an overview of the literature written in the Irish language, this thesis analyzes the English translation of the memoir An t-Oileánach (The Islandman) by Tomas O'Crohan with the interest in the pattern set by the author in describing the rural Irish life. Then the English translation of the comic novel An Béal Bocht (The Poor Mouth) by Flann O'Brien is investigated for intertextual references to O'Crohan's memoir as well as the elements of satire in the novel. The work of the author of the illustrations from The Poor Mouth, Ralph Steadman, is briefly described. The last chapter gives an overview of how fictional depiction of the Irish country people evolved during the 20th century. Collocability of the most frequent nouns in COVID-19 forum threads - a corpus study

2021 - English Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá kolokabilitou nejfrekventovanějších substantiv používaných účastníky na diskusních fórech ohledně tématu COVID-19. Internetová diskusní fóra jsou známá především různorodostí názorů jejich navštěvovatelů, kde každý z nich může mít svůj specifický styl vyjadřování, formování vět a také slovník slov, které často využívá. Teoretická část se zabývá především pojmy fraseologie a kolokace. V rámci kolokace je kromě obecného popisu pohlíženo i na jednotlivé druhy a typy. Závěr teoretické části se zabývá přiblížením pojmu kolokability. Praktická část obsahuje korpusový výzkum dat získaných pomocí skriptu z diskusního fóra Reddit. Tato data jsou podrobena analýze a je z nich vytvořen korpus s pomocí programu #LancsBox. Následně je v korpusu vytvořen frekvenční seznam substantiv a vypracován kolokační profil pro ta nejčastější substantiva. Práce zkoumá, jaká slovní spojení se nejčastěji vyskytují mezi neprofesionály na diskusních fórech ohledně aktuálního tématu COVID-19 a v jaké frekvenci se tak vyskytují. This Bachelor's thesis deals with the collocability of the most frequent nouns used by users in COVID-19 forum threads. Online discussion forums are well-known for the diversity of opinions of its users where every user may have their own specific style of expression, sentence formation, and also vocabulary of often used words. The theoretical part mostly concentrates on the terms "phraseology" and "collocations". Regarding collocations, besides general description a closer look at individual categories and types of collocations is also provided. The ending of the theoretical part concentrates on collocability and its concept. The practical part contains the corpus research of data gathered using a script from a Reddit forum. This data is subjected to analysis and is used in the creation of a corpus with the help of #LancsBox software. Subsequently, a frequency list of nouns is created and a collocational profile for the most frequent nouns is developed. The thesis analyses which collocations most often occur among non-professionals in discussion forums on the current topic of COVID-19 and at what frequency they occur. Mark Twain: The Reflection of American Civil War and the Spirit of the Postwar Period in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

2021 - English Hlavním předmětem zkoumání bakalářské práce bude literární analýza Twainova románu Dobrodružství Huckleberryho Finna jako odrazu společenské atmosféry americké občanské války a období rekonstrukce amerického Jihu. Práce se v úvodu soustředí nejprve na charakteristiku poválečného období rekonstrukce a na společenskou situaci amerického Jihu v období konce občanské války Jihu proti Severu. Dále představí Marka Twaina v kontextu prózy amerického Jihu v období druhé poloviny 19. století a pokusí se zhodnotit jeho význam jako jednoho z prvních autorů moderní americké literatury s ohledem na jeho styl, vypravěčské umění a na vliv regionálního kontextu (tzv. tall tale). Motivy historického kontextu a realistické pojetí poválečné situace v regionu státu Missouri pak budou v rámci literární analýzy předmětem zkoumání bakalářské práce zejména v Twainově románu Dobrodružství Huckleberryho Finna (téma lidské rovnoprávnosti, otroctví a vnitřní svobody jednotlivce). Jádrem práce bude interpretační analýza románu s odkazem na úlohu společenské satiry a tragikomických prvků románu. The aim of this thesis is to analyze Mark Twain's novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as a reflection of social attitudes during the American Civil War and the period of reconstruction in the American South. The first part of the thesis will focus on the characteristics of the postwar Reconstruction period and the social atmosphere of the South at the end of the Civil War. Secondly, the thesis will introduce Mark Twain in the context of Southern prose of the second half of the 19th century and evaluate the significance of Mark Twain as one of the first authors of modern American literature regarding his style, narrative, and inspiration by regional context (so-called tall tale). The motifs of the historical context and a realistic depiction of the postwar period in the Missouri region will be the object of the thesis analysis, especially in Twain's novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, concentrating on themes of equality, slavery, and inner freedom of an individual. The core of the thesis will focus on the interpretative analysis of the role of satire and tragicomic elements in the novel. Available in the Digital Repository of University of South Bohemia. 2021 - English Práce se bude zabývat koncepcemi fantastických prostorů v současné britské dětské literatuře, z nich některé jsou založeny na konceptu klasické pohádky (Neil Gaiman, Hansel and Gretel) a jiné svou hranicí přesahují do žánru gotických příběhů a hororové fantastické tvorby, přestože se jedná o literaturu určenou dětskému čtenáři. Práce se pokusí srovnat literární adaptace pohádek a původní tvorbu současného autora dětské a fantastické literatury Neila Gaimana s cílem soustředit se na hranice uvedených prostor a přesahu jednotlivých žánrů. The bachelor thesis will explore concepts of fantastic spaces in contemporary British children's literature. Some of them are based on concept of the fairy tale genre (Neil Gaiman, Hansel and Gretel) and others are crossing the border into gothic fiction and horror fantastic creation, although it is considered a part of children's literature. My work will compare the literary adaptation of fairy tales and the original work of contemporary children's and fantastic literature of Neil Gaiman. The aim is to focus on borders of spaces and particular genres.
