Phenomenon of Metamorphosis in Victorian Fiction
Fousková, Petra; Roebuck, Olga; Vít, Ladislav
2015 - English
The central theme discussed in this work is the phenomenon of literary metamorphosis occurring in two works of Victorian fiction, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886) by Robert Louis Stevenson and The Island of Dr Moreau (1896) by Herbert George Wells. In the introductory chapter a definition together with the origins of 'literary metamorphosis' is provided. Since both works were produced during the Victorian Era, commonly referred to as the Age of Transition, the theoretical part focuses on the major social changes taking place during the reign of Queen Victoria. The main part of the work analyses the motif of metamorphosis occurring in the selected novels and explores its relation to the changes occurring in Victorian society.

2015 - English

This thesis will go through an intensive research on GIS and its use in various electric fields. Moreover, various utilities will be studied across geographical regions so as to capture a good background on what is already exist. The thesis will take an electric utility and study its operations before it took up GIS and after it did, thereafter, evaluate the efficiency recorded in both circumstances. Efficiency will be in terms of productivity, network monitoring and customer service. The trend obtained, either increase or decrease, will enable us give the deduction of importance of GIS. It is more of a comparison of facts than a scientific simulation.

A brief history of the development of the genre is introduced in the theoretical part of the thesis, together with the overview of the most influential literary theories applicable on fairy tales. Feminist criticism is discussed in a greater detail, since it is the essential theory for the analysis of the tales. Particular examples of gender-biased portrayals of women in the fairy tales are discussed in the analytical part of the thesis, followed by the comparison of the traditional tales with the modern, alternative versions of the selected fairy tales.

Theoretical and Experimental Analysis of Flexicoil Helical Spring Stress
Balaban, Eren; Hába, Aleš; Ježdík, Roman
2015 - English
Suspension system of a rail vehicle is one of key member of railway vehilce. As time passed and technology evolved, people's expactation increased also in area of railway transportation like anything in life. Those expactation caused improvements also in suspension systems of railway vehicles such as using flexi - coil type of helical spring suspension. The flexi-coil type of helical spring allows deformation both in vertical and lateral direction. Due to this property of flexi - coil springs, their stress state and calculation of stresses differ from ordinary springs. In this thesis, change in stiffness and stresses under combined loading are investigated using finite element programme Solidworks. Results obtained from Solidworks are compared
with experimentally evaluated stresses.

Anti-slip protection and control of the traction motor of a rail vehicle
Zirek, Abdulkadir; Lata, Michael; Novák, Jaroslav
2015 - English
The purpose of the thesis is an overview of the anti-slip protection control system for the use in rail vehicle based upon literature resources. To fulfil our purpose, in the first part of our thesis, theoretical background information about slip, adhesion, slip detection method and control method of slip have been revised. In the second part of the study, mechanical description such as locomotive model and adhesion model was defined for simulation. A simple two axle locomotive similar to ČKD/CZ-LOCO with 10 DoF analysed analytically and necessary equations obtained for numerical computation. Then adhesion model have been defined using Freibauer/Polach to derive the equation of the adhesion forces in the front and rear wheelset of the locomotive. For the purpose of the Electric motor, approximated model of an induction is used in simulation. For the results of the dynamic simulation, finite difference method is used. The third part of the thesis includes the slip detection and control method algorithm. Five slip detection algorithms, which are "Velocity difference control Method", "Slip Control with Reference Wheelset", "Slip Control with angular acceleration of wheelset", "Slip Control with Reference Slip Generator" and "Steepest Gradient method with PI controller", are described. In the last part of the thesis, simulation results of five control algorithms have been evaluated. The comparison between the control systems in terms of performance and effectivity is carried out.

2015 - English
The aim of this master thesis is to analyze the use of hedging devices in academic writing. The theoretical part defines the term hedging and describes the most frequently used hedging devices represented by modal verbs, lexical verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Special attention is paid to their epistemic meaning. The practical part analyzes the frequency of occurrences of hedges in the chosen bachelor theses. Eventually, the prevailing tendencies are described and interpreted with respect to the context and functional style.

Structural and mechanical heterogeneities of fine-grain steel welded joints used in construction of rail vehicles
Bozkurt, Fatih; Schmidová, Eva; Mohyla, Petr
2015 - English
This study aims to analyze the changes of impact properties in fine grained steel after welding process. Two kind of steel were used, first one was S 355N steel and second one was Domex 700MC. Both of that steels are the type of steel with an improved yield strength and are suitable for light weight construction parts of railway vehicles. Welding was performed through metal arc welding (SMAW) methods, with optimum welding process parameters. Butt joint was used for bringing two steel plates together. The microstructure changes occurring during the welding process were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Hardness measurements were performed started from welding pool and continued to fusion zone, heat affected zone and base material respectively. To determine the dynamic fracture yield strength and absorbed impact energy, samples were prepared for instrumented Charpy test which were taken from steel plates. All of the samples were evaluated according to EN ISO 14556:2000 Steel, Charpy V Notch Pendulum Impact Test ? Instrumented Test Method. After impact test, fractography evaluation was performed to distinguish the fracture mode and influence of primary heterogeneity of steel. The dynamic strength and fracture behavior changes after welding process were summarized; substantial degradation process was find out in Domex 700MC steel.

Measurement of vertical wheel force on the rail
Yurdakul, Özgür; Kohout, Martin; Švec, Pavel
2015 - English
The efficiency of the proposed method, which measures the wheel force by using strain gauges installed on the rail, is investigated. Five full-scale tests were conducted in the maintenance center of CZ LOKO, Česká Třebová, Czech Republic. Six strain gauges (three active, three dummy) in each rail were installed in the half Wheatstone bridge configuration so that the wheel force can be calculated by the measured strain. While one active strain gauge was placed in the middle of the bottom flange of rail, two of the active strain gauges were mounted symmetrically to each other on the edges of the bottom flange. The optimal places of the strain gauges were determined by finite element analysis. Besides, both force and lateral shift dependence of the presented method were investigated with an experimentally validated finite element model. Two parametric equations corresponding to the results of finite element method are proposed. Moreover, two more equations were derived by means of a conventional method, which is an experimental calibration method. These equations are used to predict the wheel vertical force regardless from any lateral effect. All the results obtained from the equations were matched quantitively well with the measured mass in the weighing device.
