This diploma paper deals with the meaning of house and home in the works of Brontë´s sisters. There are three novels chosen for this diploma paper, these are: Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. The core of the work is divided into two parts: the first part deals with house and the second with home. The house is analysed from the point of view of outside appearance, position, use and division of the house and also how place influences the story and characters in the novels. Home as an abstract term is described here not only as a particular house but also as any place where characters feel like at home which is very often in untraditional places.

Cílem této diplomové práce je analýza ženských hrdinek v díle Zory Neale Hurstonové. Počáteční kapitoly se snaží uvést situaci Afro-Američanů ve Spojených Státech Amerických v devatenáctém a dvacátém století. Dále se tato práce zaměřuje na představení kulturního hnutí známého jako Harlemská Renesance. Hlavní část obsahu pojednává o způsobu jak Zora Neale Hurstonová vytváří své postavy. Dva z jejích románů Their Eyes Were Watching God a Jonah's Ground Vine, jsou analyzovány a také jedna krátká povídka Sweat.

Irish-American Identity in Frank McCourt's Work

Práce pojednává o irsko-americké identitě zobrazené v literárním díle Franka McCourta, románu Andělin popel. Autor diplomové práce definuje pojmy lidské migrace a asimilace a dotýká se s nimi souvisejícími problematiky rasismu, diskriminace, etnicity, náboženské rozdílnosti, udržování vlastní národní identity a touze po návratu do rodné vlasti.
V první, teoretické, části je studována historie irských přistěhovalců do Ameriky. Jejich neuspokojivé životní podmínky jsou důkazem předsudků místních obyvatel vůči nově příchozí irské diaspoře. Dále se diplomová práce věnuje otázkám identity, jejího zachování a předávání dalším generacím.
Irská identita je zachycena v literárním díle Andělin popel. Autor uvádí autobiografické dílo Franka McCourta do širšího literárního kontextu a krátce rozebírá dílo z literárního hlediska.
Jednotlivé otázky přistěhovalství jsou rozpoznány na vybraných korespondujících případech z uvedené knihy. Autor uvádí čtenáře do situace ve třicátých letech dvacátého století a představuje Spojené státy americké a Irsko v tehdejší době. Autor práce líčí historické a kulturní spojitosti mezi těmito dvěma a jinými státy a jejich důsledky v mentalitě tehdejšího obyvatelstva.
Na závěr jsou přístupy k přistěhovalcům postaveny do kontrastu, vyjadřujíc tak rozdílnost identit jednotlivých států.

Změny ve vzdělávacím systému, ke kterým v nedávné době došlo, podmínily nové pojetí pohledu na role učitele a žáka. Učitel se stává tím, kdo žákovi nepřekládá jen encyklopedické znalosti, ale především ho vybavuje takovými schopnostmi a dovednostmi, které mu usnadní dosáhnout samostatnosti a úspěchu v procesu učení se. Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce nazvané "Strategie učení používané v procesu učení se anglickému jazyku" bylo zjistit, jaké strategie učení používají žáci při učení se anglickému jazyku. Teoretická část se zabývá popisem Rámcového vzdělávacího programu pro základní školy z hlediska kompetence k učení, dále teoriemi učení, jejichž poznání vede k lepšímu pochopení systému strategií učení a v neposlední řadě strategiemi učení z hlediska jejich definování, klasifikace a identifikace. Praktická část se zabývá analýzou dat získaných při výzkumu. Ten je založen na analýze školního
vzdělávacího programu z hlediska strategií učení. Dále jsou zde prezentovány výsledky získaných dat z dotazníků zjišťujících žáky používané strategie učení a z rozhovorů s vyučujícími, kteří tyto žáky učí.

The thesis deals with the cultural-historical development of a string musical instrument
called the banjo which was brought to the United States of America by African slaves.
The modern banjo playing on stages today varies greatly from the primitive banjo made by black slaves of plantations. Therefore, the structure and usage of the banjo have changed through the history always depending on the cultural background of its players and builders.

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na interaktivní tabuli a její využití v hodinách anglického jazyka. Je rozdělena na dvě části, teoretickou a praktickou. Teoretická část popisuje interaktivní tabuli jako učební pomůcku a zároveň diskutuje její výhody a nevýhody. V praktické části je vykonán empirický výzkum a na základě poznatků teoretické části stanovuje roli interaktivní tabule ve výuce anglického jazyka.

The thesis deals with developing learning competency in students within ELT. The theoretical part speaks about curricular reform and the concept of learner training. It further deals with language learning strategies. The practical part, through action research, aims at enhancing teaching practice with helping teenagers monitor their work and understand their strategies by introducing various strategies to students. The author analyzes whether the students are able to reflect strategies tha can help them learn better after a particular amount of time.

The aim of this thesis is to prove that P.G. Wodehouse's characters represent the English Gentleman class, yet in a concept of a satire and parody. Describing the three crucial periods of the historical and cultural development of this social rank, the specific features are applied on the Victorian Gentleman.The idea of the English gentlemanliness and the concept of P.G. Wodehouse's characters seems to inspired the Czech author Zdeněk Jirotka, whose novel Saturnin is analysed and described in this thesis, too. The short survey from the Friern Barnet School in London shows the opinion about the English Gentleman's existence nowadays.

Reward as a motivational strategy in ELT

The thesis deals with different sources of motivation and types of rewards. The theoretical part describes motivation in the historical context of diverse theories of motivation. Furthermore, the thesis presents sources of motivation along with specifics of motivation in the English language classroom. A particular attention is devoted to rewards as on of many motivational strategies.
The empirical part aims to disclose what rewards teachers use and with what effect. The qualitative research compares and evaluates data collected from teachers, pupils and observations. The investigation combines two research instruments - questionnaire and observation. The obtained results are compared and evaluated with the theoretical part in the final conclusion.

This diploma thesis deals with the possible use of the internet in the development of language productive skill of speaking. In the theoretical part the Thesis discusses communicative competence, theory of speaking, different types of practice and activities suitable for the development of speaking, and the internet and its potential in the development of these skills. The empirical part focuses on several designed internet-based speaking activities which are applied to a particular group of basic school learners and subjected to critical evaluation.
