Analysis of the Hydrated ions Clusters Impact on the Liquid/Liquid Interface
Mareček, Vladimír; Samec, Zdeněk; Trojánek, Antonín
2022 - English
Open circuit potential (OCP) measurements of the partition of tetrapentylammonium chloride (TPeACl) at the water/1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) interface reveal two remarkable processes. The first one is characterized by a decay of the OCP from its expected equilibrium value. This process has been ascribed to the extraction of the salt driven by its accumulation in the hydrated salt clusters in the DCE phase. The second process is characterized by the short-term potential spikes overlapping the long-term OCP records. These spikes are assumed to be associated with the collision and fusion of the hydrated salt clusters produced by the former process with the water/DCE interface. Keywords: Water/1,2-dichloroethane interface; Salt partition; Open circuit potential Available on request at various institutes of the ASCR

Manufacture of 3D Printed Microfluidic Channels and Their Characterization by Impedance Spectroscopy and Optical Microscopy Measurements
Štěrba, O.; Vaněčková, Eva; Choińska-Mlynarczyk, Marta; Navrátil, Tomáš; Kolivoška, Viliam
2022 - English
Fused deposition modeling 3D printing employing high-resolution extrusion nozzles and specialized manufacturing protocols have recently attracted attention as an inexpensive tool to create microfluidic devices. In this work, we have applied such an approach to create measurement cells with integrated microchannels of systematically varied dimensions. The real width of channels was inspected by two techniques, namely (A) impedance spectroscopy employing an aqueous sensing electrolyte and (B) optical microscopic imaging of silicone imprints hardened in the interior of printed structures. Both techniques have demonstrated that fused deposition modeling 3D printing enables precise manufacturing of channels with truly microfluidic dimensions. Comparison of mechanical properties of wood determined by local gently destructive tests and fully destructive tests on building elements
Drdácký, Miloš; Kloiber, Michal; Valluzzi, M. R.; Casarin, F.
2022 - English
Demolition or repair of historic buildings is a valuable source of test materials for testing nondestructive and gently destructive methods for estimating the mechanical properties of built-in wood. The article uses the results of one such opportunity, when it was possible to study the mechanical properties of wood obtained by local measurements on a larger sample of historic and new wooden beams and compare them with the properties calculated from destructive tests of structural elements. Thirty-one wood elements (nineteen recovered from disassembled buildings and twelve new) were subjected to considerately destructive local tests using a loading mini-jack method. In this method, a small loading jack is inserted into a precisely drilled hole and a load test of the wood in compression along the fibers is performed on a part of the hole wall while measuring the achieved deformation under load. Red and white firs, and pine species constituted the recovered elements - red fir and larch the new ones. Destructive tests (in bending and compression) were also carried out on ten recovered and six new elements, and results were correlated with those of considerately destructive tests. Comparison of the assessed mechanical properties shows reasonably good correlation and promising conclusions for practical applications. Keywords: considerately destructive tests; mini-jack method; destructive tests; assessment of mechanical characteristics of wood; historic timber Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Effect of molecular structure on liquid crystalline behaviour for chiral lactic acid derivatives
Mironov, Sergei; Bubnov, Alexej
2022 - English
Liquid crystals are self-organizing materials that have great potential for practical applications. The relationship has not been fully established and understood despite numerous studies. We discuss a relatively broad subclass of calamitic chiral lactic acid derivatives and provide specific examples of effective tuning of their mesomorphic and electro-optical behaviour using various types of lateral substitution placed on the molecular core. Keywords: chiral liquid crystals; lateral substitution; ferroelectric smectic phase; spontaneous polarization; lactic acid Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Two-way fluid structure interaction study of aero-engine compressor blade vibration under air excitation
Mekhalfia, Mohammed Lamine; Procházka, Pavel; Tchawou Tchuisseu, Eder Batista; Maturkanič, Dušan; Hodboď, Robert
2022 - English
In this paper, we provide a numerical method via FEM software (ANSYS) using two-way Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) solver to estimate the blade’s vibration where the force used to excitation is a continuous air jet. This will help to provide data to diagnostic blade condition and health monitoring and a bridge toward a precise study of the blade’s dynamic under rotation and the estimation of blade’s displacement to define the amplitude and the frequency that occurs under different types of excitation which is a pillar for the process of machine condition and health monitoring. Keywords: two-way fluid structure interaction (FSI); air excitation; blade tip displacement Available at various institutes of the ASCR

SWIFT as a Tool Not Only for European Integration
Matejka, Ján; Schlossberger, Otakar
2022 - English
The paper discusses the importance of The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (hereinafter 'SWIFT') not only for European integration. It partially maps its historical development with emphasis on the importance for mutual communication between financial institutions. At the same time, however, it can be a very suitable means of obtaining a range of information as evidence for criminal proceedings in clarifying financial crime offenses. In their research, the authors deal with various approaches to the processing of data obtained from the SWIFT system, which will be submitted to law enforcement authorities. These documents can then be linked to other information, which in turn will help clarify possible financial crime, especially in cross-border, or foreign overlap. The authors' study is based on the hypothesis that 'SWIFT information can contribute to the clarification / detection of financial crime'. Keywords: European integration; financial investigation; SWIFT Available on request at various institutes of the ASCR
