Proceedings of the 22nd Czech-Japan Seminar on Data Analysis and Decision Making
Inuiguchi, M.; Jiroušek, Radim; Kratochvíl, Václav
2019 - English
The history of the series of the Czech-Japan seminars started in 1999. Thus, it is now more than 20 years ago when the first Czech-Japan Seminar on Data Analysis and Decision Making under Uncertainty was held in JAIST, Hokuriku. Since that time, these seminars were held in eleven splendid places in Japan, offering the Czech participants possibility to discover different parts of the Japanese islands. In reciprocity, it was the goal of the Czech partners organizing the past ten seminars to show the beauty of Czechia to Japanese colleagues, who, during the long Japan–Czech cooperation, became our close friends. This is also why the seminar has never visited one place two times.

SNA´19 - Seminar on numerical analysis.
Blaheta, Radim; Starý, Jiří; Sysalová, Dagmar
2019 - English
Seminar on Numerical Analysis 2017 (SNA'17) is a continuation in a series of SNA events held\nin different places in the Czech Republic and organized alternatively by Ostrava and Prague\ninstitutions. The SNA'17 is organized by the Institute of Geonics of the CAS in collaboration with\nVŠB - Technical University of Ostrava and IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre.\nConference location is one of the lecture rooms in New Aula of the VŠB-TU Ostrava.\nLet us note that SNA 2016 was reshaped to EMS School in Applied Mathematics (ESSAM)\ndevoted to mathematical modelling, numerical analysis and scientiffc computing. The SNA'17\nis turning back to more traditional winter event.\nIt provides opportunity for meeting and mutual information of the community working in computational\nmathematics and computer science, but an important part of SNA is devoted to the\nWinter School with tutorial lectures focused on selected important topics within the scope of\nnumerical methods and modelling.\nThis year, a part of the Winter School will be the course Parallel Linear Algebra (PLA) organized\nby the European research infrastructure PRACE, particularly by the French PRACE Advanced\nTraining Centre - Maison de la Simulation. Winter school lectures will cover the ongoing topics\nrelated to domain decomposition methods, interval computations and numerical veriffcation. The\nPLA course will provide lectures from the area of direct and iterative parallel solvers, as well as\npractical training with selected programs.

Chleboun, J.; Kůs, Pavel; Přikryl, Petr; Rozložník, Miroslav; Segeth, Karel; Šístek, Jakub; Vejchodský, Tomáš
2019 - English
These proceedings contain peer-reviewed papers that are based on the invited lectures, survey lectures, short communications, and posters presented at the 19th seminar Programs and Algorithms of Numerical Mathematics (PANM) held in the International Center for Spiritual Rehabilitation, Hejnice, Czech Republic, June 24-29, 2018. The seminar was organized by the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences under the auspices of EU-MATHS-IN.cz, Czech Network for Mathematics in Industry, and with the financial support provided by the RSJ Foundation. It continued the previous seminars on mathematical software and numerical methods held (biennially, with only one exception) in Alšovice, Bratříkov, Janov nad Nisou, Kořenov, Lázně Libverda, Dolní Maxov, and Prague in the period 1983-2016. The objective of this series of seminars is to provide a forum for presenting and discussing advanced topics in numerical analysis, computer implementation of numerical algorithms, new approaches to mathematical modeling, and single- or multi-processor applications of computational methods.

Quantitative Approaches to Versification
Plecháč, Petr; Barry, P.; Skulacheva, T.; Bermúdez-Sabel, H.; Kolár, Robert
2019 - English
This volume presents a wide range of quantitative approaches to versification. It comprises various methodological perspectives ranging from simple descriptive statistics to advanced machine learning methods (such as support vector machines, random forests or neural networks) as well as material covering a large span of time and languages: from very ancient versifications (Sumerian, Akkadian, Hittie, Ancient Greek), through medieval (Old English, Old Icelandic, Old Saxon) and Renaissance verse to modern experiments (free verse, concrete poetry), from English and Russian through Spanish and German to Portuguese and Catalan. Not only written, but also spoken poetry has been analyzed. The book covers multiple topics. What they all share in common is that versification is being studied in the context of other linguistic phenomena that may affect or determine it. Analyses of large corpora go hand in hand with comparative approaches. It is shown that quantitative approaches can be used for the purpose of authorship attribution, to build reasonable typologies as well as to understand why certain forms play such a dominant roles in our cultural tradition(s).

2019 - English
Radek Mikuláš convened the 15th International Ichnofabric Workshop to Prague (April 27th – May 5th, 2019). Thirty-two specialists from over the world presented recent contributions from the mainstream branch of ichnology, e.g., ichnofabrics of terrestrial systems. Special discussion block was devoted to the use of computed tomography in the study of Ichnofabric. Three days (five days for participants of the post-workshop excursion) for the workshop were devoted to field excursions. Thereby, most of the localities known only through publications have been seen and evaluated directly to the world top ichnologists.
