Contributions to Soil Zoology in Central Europe I. Proceedings of the 7th Central European Workshop on Soil Zoology
2005 - English
Proceedings book involves contributions presented at the 7th Central European Workshop on Soil Zoology held in České Budějovice on April 14-16, 2003. Individual papers summarise actual results from partial disciplines of soil zoology and ecology, taxonomy and faunistic of individual groups of soil invertebrates. Several studies summarise information about the composition and changes of soil animal communities, both in natural and non disturbed grassland and forest soils in Central Europe as well as in soils differently influenced by human activities. A part of the papers deal with the distribution and ecology of cave invertebrates. Sborník obsahuje příspěvky prezentované na 7. středoevropském půdně zoologickém workshopu, který se konal v Českých Budějovicích ve dnech 14.-16. dubna 2003. Jednotlivé články shrnují aktuální poznatky z dílčích oborů půdní zoologie a ekologie, taxonomie a faunistiky jednotlivých skupin. Keywords: 7th Central European Workshop; soil zoology Available at various institutes of the ASCR

24-Epibrassinolide at Subnanomolar Concentrations Modulates Growth of Mouse Hybridoma Cells
Franěk, František; Kohout, Ladislav; Eckschlager, T.
2003 - English
Brassinolides are known to stimulate plant growth and to posses antistresiTactivities in plants. This work was aimed at exploring possible beneficial effects of 24-epibrassinolide on cultured mammalian cells. A mouse hybridoma, i.e. a hybrid ymphocyte cell line, was cultured either in standard serum-free medium, or in diluted medium in which the cell grew inder nutritional stress. Steady-state parameters of semicon-finuous cultures conducted at 24-epibrassinolide concentra-ions from 10~16 M to 1CT9 M were evaluated. Typical effects of he agent that were observed both in standard and in diluted i [media were suppression of intracellular antibody level, increa- / ,ed value of mitochondrial membrane potential, higher frac- / ion of cells in the G(/Gl phase and lower fraction of cells in / he S phase. Alleviation of nutritional stress was observed in j (cultures conducted in diluted media. Viable cell density was j ignificantly higher at 24-epibrassinolide concentrations 10~13[ knd 10~12 M. Results of this exploratory study show that thej plant hormone 24-epibrassinolide may induce alterations of he cell division mechanism of the energetic metabolism, and of secreted protein synthesis in a mammalian cell line. Keywords: Brassinolides; cell division Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Characterization of peptide proteinase inhibitors isolated from boar seminal plasma
Jelínková, Petra; Tichá, M.; Jonáková, Věra
2003 - English
Most of proteins of boar seminal plasma are present in this medium under physiological conditions in the form of aggregates and not of monomers. In the present communication we have shown that not only spermadhesins, but also proteinase inhibitors participate in the formation of associated complexes. Proteinase inhibitors were found after gel chromatographic separation mainly in the fraction with the lowest relative molecular mass. Two different types of serine proteinase inhibitors were isolated from boar seminal plasma ů (i) glycosylated inhibitor with Mr 12 kDa, (ii) non-glycosylated sperm-associated acrosin inhibitor with Mr 8 kDa, and a new type of low molecular weight protein that is probably composed of two subunits coupled by the -S-S- bridge. The proteinase inhibitor with Mr 8 kDa was proved to form a heterodimer with AQN 1 spermadhesin under physiological conditions, whereas inhibitor with Mr 12 kDa forms homodimers. Keywords: proteinase inhibitors, aggregated forms, boar seminal plasma Available at various institutes of the ASCR
