Diurnal Trends of Carbonaceous Aerosols at Prague Suburban Station during Different Seasons
Vodička, Petr; Schwarz, Jaroslav
2011 - English
This work offers insight into diurnal oscillations of EC and OC at Prague suburban site (Central Europe) during different seasons. The observed seasonal trends were compared with correlations for gaseous pollutants and meteorological variables and used to characterize the origin of these aerosols. Ondráček, Jakub; Vodička, Petr
2011 - English
This work describes the design of the LACP HTDMA and some of the results obtained during long time measurement at Košetice background station (Czech Republic), where it was deployed within the frame of two EU projects (EUSAAR and EUCAARI). Deposition of Aerosol Particles on Filter Surfaces
Smolík, Jiří; Mašková, Ludmila; Zíková, Naděžda; Ondráček, Jakub
2011 - English
The simple model showed that the particle penetration and deposition depend on particle size and width of the gap, with the depth of the penetration limited by parallel diffusional deposition on filter surfaces. Smaller particles penetrate faster and deeper resulting in higher particle number concentration of deposited particles but higher mass is transported by larger particles. The results of modelling have been qualitatively confirmed by Ion Chromatography using sulphate as marker for deposited particles. Keywords: aerosol particles; deposition; filter surface Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Scaling Laws for Polymers in Dissipative Particle Dynamics Revised
Posel, Z.; Lísal, Martin
2011 - English
We present here a systematic study of dynamic behavior for polymer (PE) melt by means of Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD). We used DPD spring potential between adjacent segments. By changing various parameters related to spring potential like stiffness k, equilibrium distance r0 and parameters related to dynamic behavior like friction coefficient γ presented in dissipation force we tested their influence on scaling laws. We also compared these scaling laws obtained from our simulations with predictions from Rouse theory. Keywords: Rouse theory; dynamic behavior for PE; spring potential Available at various institutes of the ASCR

The Transitional Regime of Backward-Facing Step Flows
Tihon, Jaroslav; Pěnkavová, Věra; Havlica, Jaromír; Šimčík, Miroslav
2011 - English
The backward-facing step flow is investigated experimentally (electrodiffusion technique) and numerically (CFD software Fluent) at moderate Reynolds numbers achieved in a water channel. The direction sensitive sensors are used to measure the wall shear rate behind the step and detect the near-wall extent of different flow-recirculation regions. 2D numerical simulations provide additional information on the global flow rearrangement caused by the change of operational parameters (channel expansion ratios, inlet flow conditions). At the transitional flow regime, the near-wall flow exhibits an unsteady character with a high sensitivity to external low-frequency perturbations (intrinsic flow instability). The inlet pulsatile forcing is found to affect strongly the overall flow structure behind the step, resulting in the reattachment length reduction and the reverse flow intensification. Keywords: bakward-facing step; flow instability; wall shear stress Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Project Report Beneficiary No.17 ICPF Reporting period: Months 13 to 24 (01 June 2010 to 31 May 2011)
Křišťál, Jiří; Stavárek, Petr; Jiřičný, Vladimír
2011 - English
To assess the commercially available SO2 oxidation catalyst and select several for further testing we performed the extensive literature review. Based on that, we tested the selected catalysts for SO2 oxidation in experiments with the KIT lab microreactor, and started the detailed catalyst comparison based on the evaluation of the pre-exponential factor (A0) and activation energy (EA) calculated from the kinetic model by fitting the experimental data. To verify the possible design of a new sulph(on)ation reactor we performed the initial hydrodynamic experiments with gas-liquid two-phase flow in small channels. Keywords: microreactor; SO2 oxidation; process intesification Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Generation of Binary COOx/SiO2 Nanoparticles from Organocompound Precursors
Moravec, Pavel; Smolík, Jiří; Bakardjieva, Snejana; Levdansky, V.V.
2011 - English
In recent years cobalt and cobalt oxide nanoparticles have attracted substantial research effort because of their potential applications such as protective materials, catalysts, magnetic data recorders, batteries and gas sensors (Jang et al., 2004). To improve their functionality and biocompatibility nanoparticles are frequently coated with SiO2 (Teleki et al., 2008). In this work, we studied CoOx-SiO2 binary nanoparticles synthesis by metal organics chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using organo-compound precursors cobalt acetylacetonate (CoAA) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). Keywords: binary nanoparticles; metal organics CVD; nanoparticle generation Available at various institutes of the ASCR
