Context Sensitive Navigation in Hospitals
Balata, Jan; Macík, Miroslav; Míkovec, Zdeněk
2013 - English
In this paper we introduce an in-hospital navigation system suitable for motor impaired, visually impaired and elderly people. GPS localisation and WiFi triangulation are often not suitable in indoor environments due to poor signal or complicated calibration. We present a navigation system that does not depend on precise electronic localisation aids. User interfaces used are automatically accustomed to target user's abilities and preferences. Four di erent terminal types are used for the navigation system prototype. Keywords: navigation; UI generation; context modelling; accessibility Available in digital repository of ČVUT.

Synchronous Phasors Monitoring System Application Possibilities
Kasembe, Andrew G.; Müller, Zdeněk; Švec, Jan; Tlustý, Josef; Valouch, Viktor
2012 - English
The paper deals with some tasks of advanced methods to achieve security and reliability of transmission power systems. There are discussed advanced principles and techniques in monitoring systems. The paper main part is devoted to possible applications of PMUs (Phasor Measurement Unit) and their integration into WAMPaC systems (Wide Area Monitoring, Protection and Control). Significant transmission system states were analyzed in several case studies. PMUs utilization for voltage monitoring is demonstrated for three cases – standard system state, high-load state and islanding. Here the attention is paid to the possibilities of power system observability improvement using measuring chain error elimination. Other possible applications in transmission systems include ampacity determination of transmission corridors, the calculation of line electrical parameters using synchrophasor measurement, state estimation issues and power system stability. The power system model was established for methods and algorithms verification purposes. The appropriate algorithms and their parameters were found using simulation outputs to create the local automatics, e.g. Automatic Power System Stabilizer (PSS). Keywords: Phasor Measurement Unit; Wide Area Monitoring System; Transmission System; Power System Stability; Extraordinary States; Black-out; Loop Flows Available in digital repository of ČVUT.

Vystrčil, Jan; Míkovec, Zdeněk; Slavík, Pavel
2012 - English
This paper presents key findings gathered during development of indoor navigation system called NaviTerier [1]. This system is targeted to visually impaired users who want to navigate independently inside large buildings like hospital, library, university, etc. System is based on structured description of environment that is provided to the user by special application installed on a smartphone. Keywords: navigation; visually impaired; smartphone; user centered design; usability testing Available in digital repository of ČVUT.

Gaussian Logic for Predictive Classification
Kuželka, Ondřej; Szabóová, Andrea; Holec, Matěj; Železný, Filip
2011 - English
We describe a statistical relational learning framework called Gaussian Logic capable to work efficiently with combinations of relational and numerical data. The framework assumes that, for a fixed relational structure, the numerical data can be modelled by a multivariate normal distribution. We demonstrate how the Gaussian Logic framework can be applied to predictive classification problems. In experiments, we first show an application of the framework for the prediction of DNAbinding propensity of proteins. Next, we show how the Gaussian Logic framework can be used to find motifs describing highly correlated gene groups in gene-expression data which are then used in a set-level-based classification method. Keywords: Statistical Relational Learning; Proteomics; Gene Expression Available in digital repository of ČVUT.

Understanding Formal Description of Pitch-Based Input
Poláček, Ondřej; Míkovec, Zdeněk
2010 - English
The pitch-based input (humming, whistling, singing) in acoustic modality has already been studied in several projects. There is also a formal description of the pitch-based input which can be used by designers to define user control of an application. However, as we discuss in this paper, the formal description can contain semantic errors. The aim of this paper is to validate the formal description with designers. We present a tool that is capable of visualizing vocal commands and detecting semantic errors automatically. We have conducted a user study that brings preliminary results on comprehension of the formal description by designers and ability to identify and remove syntactic errors. Keywords: Non-verbal Vocal Interaction; Vocal Gesture; Formal Description; User Study Available in digital repository of ČVUT.

Peculiarities of interaction between transport infrastructure and economic growth
Micevičiene, Diana; Bazaras, Žilvinas
2010 - English
The link between transport infrastructure and economic development has to play a significant role in the development of transport network plans in any country. In fact, the relationship between investment in transport infrastructure and economic development has been the subject of investigation for quite some time. Despite this, the subject remains mired in controversy. The difficulty of establishing the relationship between transport and economy is that numerous other factors influence this relationship. The process of economic development, where besides transport other factors play a part, must have a central place in a consideration of transport and economy. This paper, based on recent exploration of the authors, examines the question whether and under what conditions developed transport infrastructure engender economic activity. The paper explains the nature of the problem and describes the foundations of the possible interrelation between the effects themselves. Seeking to analyze the effects and alternatives of their evaluation in more compressive manner, the authors of the article present firstly initiative processes of interaction between transport infrastructure and economic growth, secondly mechanism of their development in producing economic environment. The results of empirical testing of the model are also presented. Keywords: transport; infrastructure; effects; cost; economic growth; measurement Available in digital repository of UPCE.

Electrical drive for compressor on turbocharged engine
Novák, Jaroslav; Čeřovský, Zdeněk
2010 - English
Turbochargers are usually driven by turbine powered by exhausted gases. This conception is relatively simple but the compressor is not able to overcharge the compressed air or fuel-air mixture into the cylinder in the total revolution range and power regimes. Next disadvantage of turbine driven compressor is the low dynamic response of the turbine and compressor at quick fuel supply increase. There are two possible solutions. First - the “electrocharger”, that is the fully electric driven compressor can be used. Second - the hybrid driven charger is possible. Research of supercharging systems is one of activities of Josef Božek Research Centre of Engine and Automotive Technology on Faculties of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Czech Technical University in Prague. Part of this activity is research of electrical drive for the hybrid supercharging system especially from control point of view. Electric synchronous motor with permanent magnets was chosen as electric driving machine. Its robustness, high torque overload features, its small size and mass, high dynamical features and feasible high revolutions are promising for this implementation. Paper deals with torque control of high speed permanent magnet synchronous motor for driving compressor of supercharged combustion engines. Control structure which includes regimes with both full magnetic flux and flux weakening is described. Paper describes the research working place and presents test results achieved on 40 000 rev/min synchronous permanent magnet motor. Keywords: high speed drive; synchronous motor; inverter; torque control Available in digital repository of UPCE.
