The electrochemical redox processes in methacrylate-based polymer electrolytes – study on microelectrodes

In our recent project we have investigated electrochemical behaviour of ferrocene in liquid and polymer aprotic electrolytes using various electrochemical methods. The apparent diffusion coefficients were determined for propylene carbonate and poly(ethyl methacrylate)-propylene carbonate medium. Thank to optimised electrolyte composition, the polymerisation lowers the mobility of ferrocene only by 15 – 50 times contrary to previously studied PMMA-PC (Superacryl-based) electrolytes, where approx. three order decrease of diffusion coefficients was found. V tomto projektu jsme studovali elektrochemické chování ferrocenu v kapalných a v polymerních aprotických elektrolytech s využitím různých elektrochemickým metod. Hodnoty difúzních koeficientů ferrocenu byly stanoveny pro propylenkarbonát a pro polymerní elektrolyt poly(ethyl methakrylát)-propylen karbonát. Díky optimalizaci složení elektrolytu, polymerizace snížila mobilitu ferrocenu jen 15 – 50krát ve srovnání s dříve používaným PMMA-PC elektrolytem (na bázi Superakrylu), kde byl pokles difúzního koeficientu asi o tři řády. New single-ion conducting electrolytes based on methacrylates were prepared using direct, radically initiated polymerisation: copolymers of methacrylic acid (MA) or lithium methacrylate (LiMA) with 2-ethoxyethyl methacrylate (EOEMA) and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (EGMEMA) as pure cationically conducting Li+ or H+ electrolytes and covalently bonded carboxylic group. For the conductivity improvement, a set of electrolytes with embedded aprotic solvent (propylene carbonate PC or N,N-dimethylformamide DMF) was prepared. Přímou radikálovou síťující polymerizací byly připraveny nové polymerní elektrolyty s kovalentně vázanými anionty na bázi methakrylátů, kopolymery kyseliny methakrylové (MA) nebo methakrylanu lithného (LiMA) s 2-ethoxyethylmethakrylátem (EOEMA) nebo s ethylenglykolmethylether methakrylátem (EGMEMA), jako čistě iontové vodiče s pohyblivými H+ nebo Li+ ionty a kovalentně vázaným karboxylovým aniontem. Pro zvýšení vodivosti těchto binárních kopolymerů byla připravena řada elektrolytů s ukotveným aprotickým rozpouštědlem (propylenkarbonát, PC nebo N,N-dimethylformamid, DMF). Mesoporous nickel-nickel oxide for the fuel cell catalyst

Nanostructured (mesoporous) nickel-nickel oxide was prepared from the medium of the lyotropic liquid crystals. The electrochemical properties of the material deposited in thin layers were studied, especially the hydrogen oxidation reaction. The catalyst exhibits remarkable catalytic activity. Z prostředí lyotropních kapalných krystalů byl připraven nanostrukturní (mezoporézní) materiál nikl-oxid nikelnatý v podobě tenkých vrstev a byly studovány jeho elektrochemické vlastnosti, především oxidace vodíku. Polymer electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries operating at elevated temperatures

Methacrylate-based polymer electrolytes with lithium perchlorate or lithium bis(oxalato)borate were prepared and studied as perspective materials for lithium-ion batteries operating at elevated temperatures (70 – 80 °C) and exibiting higher electrochemical and chemical stability towards oxidation. The accesible potential window on gold electrode was found to be 4.9 – 5.1 V vs. Li/Li+. The ionic conductivity at 70 °C is 1.9 – 2.4 mS/cm. Byly studovány polymerní elektrolyty s chloristanem lithným nebo bis(oxalato)boritanem lithným pro lithno-iontové baterie pracující za vyšších teplot (70 – 80 °C), které vykazují vyšší elektrochemickou a chemickou stabilitu vůči oxidaci. U těchto elektrolytů bylo zjištěno dostupné potenciálové okno na zlatě až do 4,9 – 5,1 V vs. Li/Li+. Iontová vodivost při 70 °C je 1,9 – 2,4 mS/cm.
