Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na element rodinné tragédie, který je základem několika her Eugena O'Neilla. Cílem této práce je analyzovat tyto hry a najít v každé tragédii hlavního viníka a zjistit zda-li O'Neill používá nějaký opakující se vzorec při volbě jeho viníků. Práce také porovnává tyto provinilce k autorově osobnímu životu. The thesis is focused on the element of family tragedy which is used repetitively in the multiple plays of Eugene O'Neill. The focus of this thesis is to analyze the plays that include this element and find a culprit in each play. These culprits are compared in order to discover any repetitive pattern. The thesis also compares author's choice of villains to his own life.

Tato teze se snaží o představení přítomnosti Bagdádských židů v Šanghaji v období moderní Číny, od 40. let 19. století do roku 1949. Tato práce zahrnuje historii této Bagdádské židovské komunity, život této komunity v aspektech společnosti, náboženství, politiky a identity. Poslední část práce se snaží diskutovat o interakcích této komunity s okolním prostředím. This thesis aims to introduce the Baghdadi Jewish presence in Shanghai in the period of Modern China, since the 1840s to 1949. The work includes the history of the Baghdadi Jewish community, the life of the community in the aspects of society, religion, politics and identity. The last part attempts to discuss the interactions of the community with the surrounding environment.

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na majetek žen v dílech Jane Austenové. Bezmajetné ženy žijící v období regentství Jiřího IV měly jen málo možností. Ty šťastnější, které se narodily v bohatých rodinách, také neměly moc šancí užít si svá svatební věna a jeho výhody, protože Anglické právo jen stěží umožňovalo ženám vlastnit majetek. Austenová se zabývá tímto problémem a majetkem žen během manželství a po smrti jejich manžela. Má práce zahrnuje také svatební věno a vdovské věno a jejich důležitost Anglii v období 18. století. This bachelor's thesis focuses on women and property in Jane Austen's fiction. In Regency England, impecunious ladies were poor creatures of few prospects. The luckier women from wealthy families did not get to enjoy their dowries and a measure of freedom money usually brings about. With their own inalienable rights almost non-existent, they were hardly considered owners of property, since the law regarded them as property themselves. Jane Austen addresses the problem of women, property and a legal share of money a wife or a widow might be entitled to. My thesis is going to consider so called marriage portion and widow's jointure and their place in the Regency milieu.

Dvě zkoumané dvojjazyčné sestry s dominantním Anglickým jazykem jsou nahrány dvakrát s dvouměsíčním intervalem (ihned po jejich příjezdu do České republiky a těsně před jejich odletem zpět do Kanady), se záměrem zjistit, zda?-li dva měsíce v čistě česky mluvícím prostředí ovlivní jejich VOT jak v jazyku dominantním, tak sekundárním, a to na fonetické úrovni. Obě účastníce této studie jsou instruovány ke čtení slov, která se před nimi objevují na obrazovce v kontrolovaných intervalech. Tyto nahrávky jsou později analyzovány v programu Praat, kde jsou měřeny změny v jejich VOT a délce samohlásek u anglických i českých slov. Two L1 (Canadian English) dominant bilinguals (12 and 16 years old) are recorded twice two months apart (just after their arrival in the Czech Republic, and just before their departure back to Canada) to determine wheter a recent experience in purely Czech speaking environment changes their L1 and/or L2 on a phonetic level. The focus is on VOT (Voice Onset Time) and vowel lenght. The participants are asked to read aloud words, that are displayed in front of them in controlled intervals. These recordings are later analysed using Praat, measuring the VOT, and the lenght of vowels in both English and Czech.

Structural Ambiguity in Novel Compounds

Rozdíl mezi interpretací složenin jako nurse shoe a alligator shoe je zavržen jako pouhá pragmatika v práci Harley (2009), která navrhuje totožné syntaktické struktury pro tyto dvě složeniny, stejně jako i pro truck-driver. Ve snaze přijít s návrhem struktur, které by ukazovaly syntaktický rozdíl mezi těmito dvěma typy složenin a zároveň mohly pomoct rozluštit jejich ambiguitu, tato práce využívá systém Distribuované Morfologie (Marantz & Halle 1993; 1994) a jeho syntaktický přístup ke tvoření složenin. Tento systém je představen a popsán v první kapitole a větší pozornost je věnována teorii bez-kategoriálních Kořenů. Zde se přikláním k opačnému názoru od Harley (2009; 2014): Kořeny nemohou být hlavičkami frází, jak tvrdí Chomsky (2013). Podle tohoto názoru a faktu, že Harley (2009) neukazuje žádné rozdíly ve strukturách pro nurse shoe a truck-driver aniž by uspokojivě vysvětlila rozdíl v jejich tvorbě a ambiguitě, byly navrženy alternativní struktury ukazující inkorporaci adjunktu pro nurse shoe a inkorporaci předmětu pro truck-driver. Nové složeniny ze seznamů Words of the Year z let 2017 až 2013, publikované American Dialect Society, jsou aplikovány na tyto struktury spolu s diskuzí o jejich syntaktickém složení a ambiguitě. The difference in interpretation between compounds such as nurse shoe and alligator shoe is dismissed as pragmatics in Harley (2009), who proposes the same syntactic structure for these compounds as she does for truck-driver. Looking to show a structural difference between these two kinds of compounds which could also shed light on their ambiguity, this thesis follows the Distributed Morphology framework first proposed by Marantz & Halle (1993; 1994) to take a syntax focused approach to compounding. The framework is introduced and described with a focus on the acategorical Roots theory within it. An opposing view to Harley (2009; 2014) is adopted: Roots cannot label phrases, as suggested by Chomsky (2013). Based on this assumption and the fact that Harley (2009) shows no structural difference between nurse shoe and truck-driver without satisfyingly addressing the difference in their formation and ambiguous nature, alternative structures are proposed showing an adjunct incorporation for nurse shoe and complement incorporation for truck-driver. Novel compounds from Words of the Year lists ranging from 2017 to 2013, published by the American Dialect Society, are applied to these structures, and their syntactic formation and ambiguity are discussed.

Tato esej poukazuje na podobnosti ve vybraných dílech Samuela Becketta a Jamese Joyce, Dream of Fair to Middling Women a A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Dále se tato práce také pokouší analyzovat, v jakém rozsahu jsou jasně identifikovatelné jednotlivé podobnosti mezi ústředním tématem těchto dvou románů a sice, "konfliktem ducha a těla" jejich protagonisty a strukturou. Za účelem jasného a definitivního rozlišení mezi jednotlivými postavami a jejich autory byly v rámci analýzy protagonistů použity biografické materiály. Strukturou zabývající se kapitola je určena k poukázání na hlavní body, které se z hlediska struktury nacházejí u obou románů. This essay is concerned with pointing out similarities in the selected works of Samuel Beckett and James Joyce, Dream of Fair to Middling Women and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Furthermore, this work attempts to analyse the extent to which the similarities between the two novels in terms the central themethat is, 'the conflict of the spirit and the body'their protagonists and structure are clearly identifiable. In the analysis of the novels' protagonists, biographical materials were used to make the distinction between the characters and their authors clear and definite. The chapter concerned with the structure of the two novels seeks to point out the main structural points that appear in both novels.

Digital Marketing of Nordic Walking

The aim of this study was to analyze the digital marketing strategy of the international Nordic Walking federation INWA. The digital marketing strategy was mainly analyzed form the social media perspective how the federation and its country members are active on the social media, what platforms and tools are they using for their digital marketing strategy. The thesis is divided in to six chapters, which contains 8 pictures, 1 table and 8 graphs. The first chapter gives a short introduction to the topic and the sport Nordic Walking. This chapter explains what kind of recreational sport Nordic Walking is. The first chapter includes also a section explaining history of Nordic Walking and the founding of INWA. The second chapter gives a short introduction in to what digital marketing is, its methods and what are the current trends on the market. The third chapter defines the objectives of the thesis, both the primary objective and the secondary objectives. Fourth chapter takes us through the methodology of the thesis, it describes what methods where used for this thesis and how the collection of primary and secondary data has been collected and analyzed. Fifth chapter describes the results and outcome of the questionnaires, the overall analyzes of the thesis and its strengths and weaknesses for improvement. A last chapter is the conclusion which gives a summary of the main part of the text, concluding statements, recommendations and solutions to the topic. This bachelor thesis is concerned with Bram Stoker's somewhat unconventional choice of narrative structure in his novel Dracula, as well as the important parts of Stoker's life that helped shape the final image of said book.
