Křůmal, Kamil; Mikuška, Pavel; Horák, J.; Hopan, F.
2018 - Czech
Organic compounds (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, alkanes) and organic markers (hopanes) used for the identification of aerosol emission sources were measured in emissions from the combustion of hard and brown coal. Coal was combusted in different boilers (overfire boiler, boiler with down-draft combustion and automatic boiler) used for residential heating in the Czech Republic. Keywords: residential heating; household heating; coal combustion Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Hollow fibre-liquid phase microextraction of basic drugs from dried dried blood spots
Dvořák, Miloš; Miková, B.; Šlampová, Andrea; Kubáň, Pavel
2018 - English
Hollow fibre-liquid phase microextraction (HF-LPME) was applied for rapid and efficient extraction of basic drugs from dried blood spots (DBS). Basic drugs from DBS were first extracted into 10 mM NaOH solution, which acted as the HF-LPME donor solution, and simultaneously the neutralized drugs were transferred across the HF and preconcentrated in 10 mM HCl acceptor solution inside the HF lumen. Mixture (1:1, v:v) of 1-ethyl-2-nitrobenzene and dihexyl ether was used for impregnation of the porous HF membrane. Analytes in the acceptor solution were injected directly from the HF into capillary electrophoresis instrument for further separation, detection and quantification. Repeatability of the hyphenated analytical system ranged from 9.8 to 13.8 % (RSD) and enrichment factors of 52 – 78 were obtained for model basic drugs spiked to DBS extracts at a concentration level of 0.1 mg/L. Keywords: hollow fibre-liquid phase microextraction; microextraction of basic drugs; dried blood spots Fulltext is available at external website.

Surface enhanced raman spectroscopy: Detection platforms for sample analysis with and without electrophoretic separation
Týčová, Anna; Přikryl, Jan; Foret, František; Belder, D.
2018 - English
In this work we present two platforms of relatively simple construction for user-friendly sample detection via surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The first platform is designed for direct sample analysis and deals with hydrophilic spots array within a hydrophobic surface. The second presented platform aims on analysis of samples of higher complexity requiring separation step prior the detection. This is achived via microfluidic electrophoretic device with online SERS detection. Keywords: raman spectroscopy; SERS; microfluidic electrophoretic device Fulltext is available at external website.

Photon-upconverting nanoparticles as a novel background-free label in immunoassays
Farka, Z.; Hlaváček, Antonín; Mickert, M. J.; Skládal, P.; Gorris, H. H.
2018 - English
Photon-upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) have become an attractive label in immunoassays because their anti-Stokes luminescence can be excited by the NIR laser and detected in the VIS region without optical background interference. Further advantages of UCNPs include good photostability, large anti-Stokes shifts, and multiple narrow emission bands that can be used for multiplexed detection. We have developed a competitive upconversion-linked immunosorbent assay (ULISA) for detection of the pharmaceutical diclofenac (DCF) in surface waters. Silica-coated UCNPs (50 nm in diameter) with carboxyl groups on the surface were synthesized and conjugated with the secondary anti-IgG antibody. The structure and monodispersity of the nanoconjugates was studied by TEM and agarose gel electrophoresis. Using a highly affine anti-DCF primary antibody, the optimized ULISA provided a detection limit of 50 pg·mL−1. Keywords: photon-upconversion nanoparticle; immunoassay; bioconjugation; antibody; diclofenac Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Determination of permeability of ulra-fine lead oxide aerosols through military filters
Kellnerova, E.; Večeřa, Zbyněk; Kellner, J.; Zeman, T.; Hylak, Č.
2018 - English
Military filters introduced in the Army of the Czech Republic are most commonly used when working with combat equipment and weapons and in manoeuvring activities in the terrain with the use of explosives or chemical warfare agents. During such activities, a large number of pollutants in the form of nanoparticles are released. Nanoparticles, irrespective of their chemical composition, are classified as carcinogenic to humans and therefore it is necessary to eliminate them from the air. Military filters, especially the combined ones, which contain a filtration as well as sorption component, are most widely used and are designed for the widest range of pollutants. However, the current methodology to evaluate the effectiveness of military filters does not fix a duty to monitor the ability of the filters to capture relevant pollutants across the whole range of sizes. The paper evaluates the efficiency of selected types of military filters using the methodology and instrumentation introduced in the accredited laboratories of the Institute of Analytical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The testing has been carried out simultaneously with two concentrations of ultra-fine aerosols containing lead oxide nanoparticles ranging in size from 7.6 nm to 299.6 nm. It is an aerosol, the physicochemical and toxicological properties of which are known. During the work the basic parameters of permeability of aerosols tested by filters have been evaluated, especially: size and number of particles in front of and behind the filter, the efficiency and penetration of nanoparticles by the filter. Keywords: nanoparticle; filter; efficiency; health safety Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Barboříková, Hana; Mikuška, Pavel; Hegrová, J.; Krajčovič, J.
2018 - Czech
Částice atmosferického aerosolu (PM) ovlivňují naše životní prostředí a především lidské zdraví, jelikož obsahují toxické látky. Účelem této studie je určit celkovou koncentraci a rozpustné frakce vybraných kovů a také příspěvek kovů rozpustných v plicních tekutinách k celkovému oxidačnímu potenciálu PM. Atmospheric particulate matter (PM) affects our environment especially human health because it contains many toxic chemical substances. The purpose of this study is to determine a total content and a soluble fraction of selected metals and also the contribution of metals soluble in pulmonary fluids to a total oxidative potential of PM. Keywords: aerosol; oxidative potential; metal Available in digital repository of the ASCR
