Multiphase Flow of Taylor Bubbles in Rectangular Microchannels.

The aim of this work is to broaden our knowledge of the behavior of Taylor bubbles in a coflowing liquid inside flat microchannels with a high aspect ratio. The primary focus is put on the near-wall region, which is difficult to study both experimentally or numerically. The investigated quantities are the thickness of a liquid film separating the bubble from the microchannel wall, wall shear stress induced by the bubble movement, and the shape and velocity of the translating bubble. Solvent Assisted 2D Mesoporous g-C3N4 Modification for Catalytic Application.

Here we show a facile and scalable new approach for the synthesis of ordered CN materials with an excellent photoactivity, which consists\nof supramolecular interfacial preorganization of monomers at the interface of two non-miscible solvents. Molecular dynamic simulations\nsupported by experimental results reveal that appropriate mono-mers and solvents choice lead to the formation of a supramolecular assembly solely at the interface of the solvents. As a proof of concept, we show the chemical and physical properties of the g-C3N4 materials after thermal condensation in various temperature. The advantages of the new method are demonstrated here through the tuneable morphologies and surface area, the formation of new electronic junctions and high activity as a photocatalyst for hydrogen evolution and pollutants degradation of the g-C3N4 materials. Modular Synthesis of Dendritic Amphiphiles.

The synthesis of such structures starts by an attachment of alkyl chain/s R and dendritic wedge/s to the starting molecules. These dendritic wedges are ended by three allyl groups so that various polar groups can be conjugated to the periphery of the wedge by so called thiol-ene click reaction. Two-phase (gas-liquid) flows are fundamental to wide range of chemical industrial processes such as absorption or distillation. Gaseous\nphase is mostly represented by rising bubble swarms through the liquid bulk. Deoxyfluorinated N-acetyllactosamines as Tailored Carbohydrate-based Probes for Human Galectins.

this work, I prepared a complete series of mono‑deoxyfluorinated N-acetyllactosamine analogues 1-6. The synthesis of each analogue\nrequired approximately 15 synthetic steps, including deoxyfluorination of monosaccharide precursors, chemical glycosylation and\ndeprotection. Their binding affinities to the two most explored human galectin-1 and -3 were determined by ELISA and 19F NMR T2-filter\ntechniques, which enabled the identification of hydroxyl groups, crucial in the non-covalent recognition by galectins. This binding study\nalso permitted to compare both tested galectins in terms of their substrate specificity, revealing subtle differences, which could be utilized\nin the development of selective galectin inhibitors. Furthermore, the series is also a perfect tool to study the molecular origin of recognition\nevents via epitope-mapping 19F NMR techniques. Mikroplasty a jejich odstraňování z vod pomocí sorbentů.

Zvýšený výskyt cizorodých látek ve vodních zdrojích, ať už mikroplastů či dalších jiných organických kontaminantů je v současné době stále se zvyšující environmentální problém. Tato problematika úzce souvisí se zmapováním jejich výskytu ve vodním prostředí, a dále také s možnými způsoby jejich odstranění. V rámci práce byla nejprve provedena charakterizace připravených mikroplastových částic pěti nejčastěji používaných plastů (polyethylen, polyamid, polytetrafluorethylen, polyethylenglykoltereftalát a polystyren) pomocí skenovací elektronové mikroskopie (SEM), Ramanovy spektroskopie a infračervené spektroskopie (IČ). Tyto mikroplastové částice byly použity pro přípravu simulovaných vod kontaminovaných mikroplasty. Připravené simulované vzorky vod kontaminovaných mikroplasty byly využity pro vývoj metodiky určení počtu obsažených částic mikroplastů. Dále byly testovány možnosti odstranění mikroplastů ze vzorků pomocí sorbentů na bázi přírodních bentonitů a zeolitů. Bylo potvrzeno, že účinnost sorbentů závisí na jejich složení a texturních vlastnostech a může být zvýšena pomocí jejich modifikace. The occurrence of contaminants in water sources, microplastics or other organic pollutants, has been an increasing environmental problem. This issue is related to mapping of their occurrence in an aquatic environment and with finding of possible ways regarding their elimination. The prepared microplastic particles of five most-frequently used plastics (polyethylene, polyamide, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene glycol terephthalate and polystyrene) were characterized by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the Raman spectroscopy and the infrared spectroscopy (IR). The obtained microplastic particles were used for preparation of simulated water contaminated with microplastics. The prepared simulated samples of water contaminated with microplastics were used for the development of a methodology for determining the number of contained microplast particles. Furthermore, the possibilities of a microplastic removal from simulated samples by sorbents based on natural bentonites and zeolites were tested. It was confirmed that the effectiveness of sorbents depends on their composition and textural properties and could be increased by their modification.
