The aim of the dissertation is to find an answer to the question of whether the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (ECCB) in the years 1968-1989 could be considered "free" in any way. This work describes the life of the ECCB in that period and the ways of the freedom und unfreedom the ECCB enjoyed and formed. Thereby, the research is based on the careful analysis of documents of church and state archives and the results of ten author-led biographical interviews with then active pastors. Combining these methods and sources, the dissertation offers an innovative view on the ECCB in the period and provides new, deeper, and more personal insights into the processes of the time. The first four chronological chapters describe the situation and development of the ECCB during the socio-political liberalisation during the Prague Spring and during the years after the Warsaw Pact troops' invasion of Czechoslovakia, when the so-called "normalisation" began. The fifth chapter presents the main strategies that the church developed in reaction to the restriction of its freedom. The sixth chapter presents the perspective of two ministers of the ECCB on their contacts with the representatives of the state authorities in the form of a case study. An insight in the internal life of the church and the forms of the church... česky Cílem této práce je zodpovědět otázku, zda Českobratrská církev evangelická byla v letech 1968-1989 nějakým způsobem svobodná. Práce představuje, jakým způsobem byla v církvi zažívána svoboda i nesvoboda, v čem svoboda církve spočívala a jakým způsobem byla svoboda církve omezena. Tato otázka je pojednávána na základě orálně-historických rozhovorů, které autor vedl s tehdejšími faráři ČCE a na základě dalších výzkumu v církevních i státní archivech. V prvních čtyřech kapitolách autor líčí situaci ČCE, jak se vyvíjela v reakci na společensko-polický vývoj během Pražského jara, na vstup vojsk Varšavské smlouvy do Československa v roce 1968 a během následného období normalizace a jak se ČCE k tomuto vývoji stavěla. V páté kapitole jsou představeny strategie, které si církev a její faráři vyvinuli v reakci na omezování svobody. Šestá kapitola je případovou studií, jež se zabývá reflexí jednoho faráře a jedné farářky jejich kontaktů s reprezentanty státních úřadů. Sedmá kapitola má za téma vnitřní život ČCE. V jejím první části jsou popsány formy církevního života a církevní práce. V druhé interpretativní části kapitoly je pojednána otázka po zdrojích svobody a o charakteru tehdejšího církevního společenství. Jewish Community and Religious Practice in Prague Synagogues from the mid-19th Century until the Shoah This historical ethnographic study examines the Prague Jewish community and its c. 30 synagogue congregations in the second half of the 19th century until the shoah through the prism of their musical-liturgical practices. This research constitutes an in-depth investigation of liturgical and religious phenomena and developments which have hitherto been neglected in research on Czech- German-Jewish history of Prague and in accounts of the music history of the Czech Lands. The central question is, which forms and meanings Jews gave to their praying and acting in Prague synagogues in that period. The study is based mainly on archival research and analysis of written sources like community and official records, periodicals and written music collections as well as material sources and oral history. Three main aspects cross through the entire study: the organization aspects, the actors and the practice frame. The focus of the first part of the study is based on the structural situation of the Prague Israelite (later Jewish) Community as the umbrella organization and the largely autonomous, and therefore religiously manifold, individual synagogue congregations. Zkoumají se liturgické fenomény a náboženský vývoj, které jsou dosud zanedbané v bádání o česko-německo-židovské Praze, a hudební dějiny v českých zemích. Hlavní výzkumnou otázkou je, jaké formy a významy židé dali jejich modlení a jednání v pražských synagogách v tomto období. Studie se zakládá především na archivním výzkumu a analýze písemných dokumentů, jako například spisů Israelitské/Židovské náboženské obce a úřadů, sbírek hudebnin a dobového zpravodajství, dále pak hmotných pramenů i pramenů oral history. Odsun/vyhnání v českých a německých kulturách vzpomínání

The thesis analyzes how the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia is treated, interpreted and staged. It concentrates on two questions: what strategies do the authors use to recover the memory of the events and how do the different communities translate and share their memories? In the first part I sketch the development of the political contexts and discourses of expulsion in German and Czech memory culture on the basis of the model of ‚floating gap' by Jan Assman. In the second part, I present seven ‚strategies of commemoration' (Documenting, Interpreting, Investigating, Exhibiting of fragmentarized Memories, Swearing/staging of Trauma, Drawing of Genealogies, Reading in Landscapes), which the authors use in Literature (and Art) to represent the expulsion. The third part focuses finally on the problem of intercultural translation of memories, its shareability and the inner dialogism. The constant line of the analysis is the irreductibility of connection of memory and forgetting, which underline each other from the level of text to the level of memory politic. Práce zkoumá, jak se zpracovává, vykládá a inscenuje vyhnání Němců z Československa v soudobé literatuře a umění. Koncentruje se na dvě centrální otázky: jak se předávají v těchto textech vzpomínky na odsun přes vícero generací a zda či jak jsou odlišné vzpomínky přeložitelné z jedné kultury vzpomínání do druhé. První část dizertace načrtává politické a diskurzivní kontexty českých a německých kultur vzpomínání a jejich dynamiku na základě modelu floating gap Jana Assmanna, resp. Jana Vansiny. V druhé části práce je představeno sedm strategií vzpomínání (dokumentovat, vykládat, vyšetřovat, vystavovat rozkouskované vzpomínky, vzývat/inscenovat trauma, kreslit genealogie, číst v krajinách), s jejichž pomocí autoři reprezentují odsun v literatuře a umění. Třetí část dizertace se koncentruje na problém interkulturní překladovosti vzpomínek a jejich vnitřní dialogičnosti. Jako červená nit se prací vine téma nevyhnutelného spojení vzpomínky a zapomnění, které se spájí a vzájemně vyžadují jak na úrovni literárních textů, tak i na úrovni politiky vzpomínání.

Doctoral thesis by Benjamin Kaiser (FHS UK): Title in English: Relating and unrelating. A phenomenology of impartation. Abstract (English) Using a phenomenological analysis of the living body, this thesis investigates the dynamics of relating and unrelating in the context of philosophical anthropology. The first main chapter on "Mediation and Deprivation" argues that, in the context of early 20th century, certain philosophical paradigms arose which made the medium an absolute concept: some examples are those of environment; milieu and media theory. On the other hand, Husserl developed the phenomenological Epoché; and Plessner's and Scheler's emphasised the world/environment- difference as a negative response towards these paradigmatic accounts on mediation. An excursus further investigates the "sceptical beginnings of phenomenology" by making a comparison between the Epoché of the ancient Greek scepticism in the works of Sextus Empiricus and the phenomenological Epoché of Husserl. Summary: The dissertation conducts a phenomenological study of the brushstroke in art from the perspective of the relationship between sight and touch. The previous analyzes of painting focus mostly on the sense of sight, this thesis is characterized by the emphasis on the importance of the sense of touch in visual art. The theme is related to both philosophy and art, so the investigation consists of two main parts, "Theoretical Analysis" and "Detailed Analysis". In the part of the "theoretical analysis" first a "historical overview of sight and touch" is led. The philosophical research on perception and the relationship of sight and touch are summarized. Phenomenological observation points to the fundamental meaning of the sense of touch in the corporeality. According to the research of simple perception, the "layer analysis of the image" is carried out. Image-consciousness is a matter of multiple objectivities and their apprehensions. Different layers in image theory by Husserl and Ingarden are presented and compared. In terms of aesthetic experience, Dufrenne's distinction between the artwork and the aesthetic object is guided. The importance of sight and touch in the aesthetic consideration of the brushstroke is recognized. On the basis of the "theoretical analysis" the "detailed analysis" is carried... Die bisherigen Analysen über die Malerei konzentrieren sich meistens auf den Gesichtssinn, diese Arbeit zeichnet sich durch die Hervorhebung der Bedeutung des Tastsinns in der visuellen Kunst aus. Das Thema bezieht sich sowohl auf die Philosophie, als auch auf die Kunst, die Untersuchung besteht darum aus zwei Hauptteilen, "Theoretischer Analyse" und "Ausführlicher Analyse". Dies wird erarbeitet an dem Phänomen des absoluten Idem, bekannt als Satori oder Erleuchtung im Zen-Buddhismus. Unter dem Blickwinkel der radikalen Lebensphänomenologie von Michel Henry und dem Shöbögenzö als grundlegendes Werk des japanischen Zen-Meisters Dogen Zenji werden Eigenschaften des absoluten Idem zusammengetragen, die in ihren Einzelheiten (Körper, Geist, Denken, Handeln, Dualität, Nicht- Dualität, Phänomenalität der Gleichzeitigkeit, Ausschließlichkeitsphänomen, Kausalität und Zeit, Ethik) erforscht werden. Unter der geänderten Voraussetzung ist diese Forschungsreise eine Art "Neuformatierung" von Welt. Auf diese Weise ergibt sich: 1. Welt ist unter einer gewendeten Voraussetzung in die Nicht-Dualität setzbar. 2. This is the translation of a dualistic presupposition of world to a non-dualistic presupposition of world. The phenomenon of "absolute Idem", well-known as Satori or enlightenment in Zen Buddhism is the aim of this investigation. With the perspective of radical phenomenology of life of Michel Henry and Shobogenzo as basic work of Dogen Zenji, Japanese master of Zen characteristics of absolute Idem are compiled. These attributes (body, mind, thinking, doing, duality, non-duality, phenomenality of contemporaneity, phenomenon of exclusivity, causality and time, ethic) are investigated. With the turned presupposition, the expedition is a kind of "new formatting" of world. In this way, following topics unfold: 1. World is setting in non-duality under a turned presupposition. 2. Consequences of investigation in all areas of science succeed, because different question are possible. 3. Problems of the world and humanity (war, peace, global environment, energy) can find new ways of questions and answers. 4. Die vorliegende Forschungsarbeit definiert eine Expedition in eine Welt, die unter einer gewendeten Voraussetzung untersucht wird. Die gewendete Voraussetzung ist die Übersetzung von einer dualistischen Voraussetzung von Welt zu einer nicht-dualistischen Voraussetzung von Welt.
