Privacy and propaganda: The iconography of the emperor Rudolf II
Zlatohlávková, Eliška
2012 - English
Many portraits were painted of Rudolf II during his lifetime, forming a significant component of Rudolfian art, however, they have not received sufficient art historical attention. They document—at times in a stylyzed manner—the transformation of Rudof´s appearance. However, their most important task was to demonstrate and make tangeable Rudolf´s authentic apperance to the world and to celebrate his magnanimity and personality. Thus, there are many portraits that represent Rudolf as a good emperor or a brilliant commander. It is difficult to find interconnections between the many portraits that were produced of Rudolf, however among them one may find some artworks that would become exemplars for other portraits of the emperor during his reign/lifetime/the end of the 16th and early 17th century. Keywords: Rudolf II; portrait; iconography Available at various institutes of the ASCR

The Murals at the Castle Chapel at Zvíkov as an Echo of High-Medieval Court Chapels - the Question of Its Commissioning and Dating
Všetečková, Zuzana
2003 - English
The study is an attempt at an interpretation of the decoration of the Zvíkov Castle Chapel as a response of the ambitious Oldřich of Rožmberk to royal chapels at a time when he received the Zvíkov castle as a pledge and when it was reconstructed. Remarkable paintings include St Maurice, St Leonard, as well as emblems with Arma Christi and the Martyr's Death of St Sebastian, rather less usual in Bohemia. Leonard a v Čechách méně obvyklé znaky s Arma Christi a Umučením sv. Šebastiána. Keywords: medieval mural painting; Zvíkov; iconography Available at various institutes of the ASCR

The Royal House in Brno and its Chapels
Benešovská, Klára
2003 - English
The text deals with the architecture of the chapel of the Virgin Mary, founded by King Wenceslas II in 1297, and of the house with a private chapel or oratory to which it was added. Both buildings stood in Brno, at the corner of Veselá Street and the Dominikánské Square, until 1908, when the city had them torn down. The chapel of the Virgin Mary with a square-shaped nave vaulted to the central column was completed by Queen Eliška Rejčka, who transferred the chapel to her foundation - the Cistercian convent in Staré Brno. The layout of the top oratory, connected with the chapel with a staircase, creates a free analogy to multi-storied court chapels. Keywords: Brno; St Mary and St Venceslas Chapel; King Venceslas II Available at various institutes of the ASCR
