Structural characterization of fatty acids with triple bond and unusual double bond positions by HPLC/APCI-MS2

Fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) were analyzed by reversed-phase HPLC coupled to atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) mass spectrometry. Acetonitrile was used as mobile phase. The gas-phase reactions of acetonitrile and unsaturated FAMEs in the APCI source provided [M + C3H5N]+• adducts. Subsequent MS/MS analysis of these ions gave diagnostic fragments. The formation and fragmentation of the acetonitrile-related adducts were utilized for the structural characterization of FAME with isolated double bonds in (Z)-9,19-hexacosadienoic acid methyl ester, FAME with conjugated double bonds in (Z)-9,11-octadecadienoic acid methyl ester and FAME with a triple bond in 9-octadecynoic acid methyl ester. Catalytic hydrogen evolution reaction is one of known effects observed during the electrochemical studies of proteins. Constant current chronopotentiometric stripping technique is suitable tool for the study of catalytic hydrogen evolution reaction due to the formation of peak H. This contribution compares the catalytic behaviour of nonmodified papain and its artificial derivatives prepared by the interaction of organometallic complexes of ruthenium with free sulfhydryl group of protein. The comparison of the chronopotentiometric behaviour of papain and its derivatives would help to better understand the catalytic hydrogen evolution reaction in these derivatives. ACTRIS (The Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure) je panevropskou výzkumnou infrastrukturou, jejímž hlavním cílem je tvorba vysoce kvalitních dat a podávání informací o krátkodobých složkách atmosféry a o procesech vedoucích ke změnám těchto složek v přírodním a kontrolovaném laboratorním prostředí. ACTRIS je dlouhodobou aktivitou (již od roku 2012, viz. Obr. 1) více než 100 partnerských organizací po celé Evropě, jejichž cílem je integrace, harmonizace a distribuce vysoce kvalitních vědeckých výstupů poskytovaných nejlepšími pracovišti atmosférického výzkumu v (prozatím) 22 evropských zemích. ACTRIS je logickým pokračováním 15-tiletého rozvoje velkých výzkumných infrastruktur financovaného členskými státy a evropskou komisí (EC) prostřednictvím programu výzkumných infrastruktur (Research Infrastructure programme) zahrnujících např. Derivatives of 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) are well-known bident ligands which had a lot of interesting applications thanks to their coordination abilities. Selected 1,10-phenanthroline compounds were studied by electrochemical methods. Depending on their different substituents were observed several oxidation and reduction voltammetric peaks. The study involves also in situ spectroeletrochemistry, infrared spectroscopy and identification of products by HPLC-DAD and HPLC-ESI MS/MS. The nucleation of nanoparticles was applied during gold deposition onto TiO2 layers. For nucleation, up to 10 Pa of inert gas (argon) was used. Argon molecules efficiently helped to cool temperature of evolving plume and initiated the nucleation which resulted in deposition of gold nanoislands. Gold nanoparticles incorporated in TiO2 layers provided plasmonic properties. Au/TiO2 layers were used for water splitting as proved by photoelectrochemical measurements.
