This paper describes the design, recording and evaluation of a Czech acted emotional speech database. The database contains 16 usual everyday sentences read by five professional speakers in six basic emotional styles and the neutral style.

Calculation of the Electromagnetic Field Around Microtubule

Microtubules are important structures in cytoskeleton which organizes the cell. Single microtubule is composed of electrically polar structures, tubulin heterodimers, which have strong electric dipole moment. Vibrations are expected to be generated in microtubules, thus tubulin heterodimers as electric dipoles are oscillating. This gives rise to electromagnetic field, which is detected around the cells. We calculate here the electromagnetic field of microtubules if they are excited at 1 GHz. This paper includes the work done in bachelor thesis of the first author.

Respiratory and cardiovascular health effects of nanoparticles

Numerous combustion related and natural sources generate airborne ultra fine particulate matter (<100 nm). Several epidemiological studies have found adverse respiratory and cardiovascular health effects in susceptible parts of the population to be associated with these particles. Published clinical studies with 10-50 μg/m3 ultra fine elemental carbon particles as surrogates for ambient particles did induce cardiovascular effects in healthy adults.

As the demand for broadband e-services is increasing, there is a good chance for the cable TV operators to successfully compete with the traditional telecommunication operators in providing the services taking advantage of their broadband infrastructure. The paper reviews the Czech telecommunications arena focusing on the role of CATV operators and service providers in general and of the small and medium ones in particular.

COMPARISON OF SPEECH VOCODERS BASED ON REAL AND COMPLEX CEPSTRAL COEFFICIENTS

New approach to speech analysis and synthesis using the complex cepstral coefficients was implemented in a form of a vocoder based on complex cepstral coefficients. To test the results of this new vocoder a comparison with results of an existing vocoder based on real cepstral coefficients were done. This paper describes the structure of both vocoders and the results of performed tests.

Layers of nanoparticles in micelle enclosures were deposited on InP substrates by electrophoresis from isooctane colloid solutions containing Pd or Ag nanoparticles. The layers were investigated by SIMS, low-temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy and topography, absorption spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and sensitivity to hydrogen. Photoluminescence of InP was enhanced by the layers of Pd or Ag nanoparticles. Schottky barriers made on the n-type InP with layers containing Pd nanoparticles showed significant sensitivity to hydrogen in contrast to those containing Ag nanoparticles.

We report on the influence of rare earth (RE) elements (Pr, Er, and Dy) addition during vertical Bridgman low pressure synthesis on the properties of InP crystals. The temperature dependent Hall measurement and low temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were employed to study the changes in electrical and optical properties of the crystals. The observed changes are attributed to the gettering effect of REs caused by the high affinity of REs towards shallow impurities in InP.
